Since I am banned from SS (2yrs ago) I have relied on other sites to carry the load. I mean I was making $400 a month on SS.
This month I did a BME with $303 and now wonder just how far I can push the limits on DT? Is there anyone who personally reaches $400 or more on DT?
I would like to know and hear what your experience has been, and how your earnings progressed over time.

OK it time for a revolution. I say we storm all the stock sites....all of us at once. Then we take down all their servers.
Then we proceed to their corporate offices, to rip open the safes and steal all the money. No more pushing us little guys around as long as we all stick together.
lets go!

"I won't sign up with them until they sort all this rating nonsense out"
We had a meeting and we voted. We would appreciate it if you would not join at all.
We recognize you as one of the top stock photogs and think it would be in OUR best interest if we kept the good people out for now.
Please consider us in the future when your life is not so perfect.

DATE LINE March 29, 2007
It has been reported Mostphotos members are forming alliances with one another and instituting gang warfare!
Nightly raids by one gang on another, delivering the rival gang members with copious amounts of low ratings of all "1's" and sneaking then back to their respective portfolios, and hiding among their images have been observed.
Digital warfare has broken out out - People are getting emotionally assassinated and sales are beginning to suffer as a result.
An insider has reported that one side is developing a "nuclear comment bomb". This device if unleashed will not only devastate the opposing side with a total oblivion of "1's" but will also leave nasty comments about the authors images as well. " I hope my sales don't suffer" reported one witness. and another stated it has cost him thousands in therapy sessions with his therapist. "This site is costing me more money than I make here" he reported.
There are no signs of any scheduled peace talks in the future. It is hoped that the owners of the site will be able to initiate some sort of settlement soon.

Eugene, brace yourself for the news. As a photographer you are utterly a failure. Give it up. Sell your equipment now while you can still get a sufficient amount of cash for it.
This is a fact: You will starve as a stock photographer. Don't under any circumstances quit you regular job if you have one. Take up a more satisfying hobby like raising gold fish, or knitting.

I agree about the voting. I enjoy watching my images move up the ladder, however this is more of a "lets have fun" and "party" atmosphere.
I must admit. It was a feature that caught my fancy in the beginning. But that was because it entertained my ego. I occupied the #1 spot for the 3 day time period for quite a while.
RT is one I agree with though on this issue, from a contributors view. I don't have any idea how a buyer feels. All in all it's a "fun" site, with the voting, chatting and the ability to improve your status, by making points.
We'll see what happens. I know I enjoyed getting a DL my very first day. So that also persuaded me to upload more than 350 images more.

PS there is an option on MP NOT to watermark your images.....that is my choice that I have chosen.

« on: March 28, 2008, 13:26 »
I don't watermark my images....why? Because if they want a free blog image they can have it. It's good publicity, they don't make any money commercially with that size, and they are not prime buyers anyway. People who use blog size images are not usually commercially motivated.
Anyone is is welcome to my images. I have thousands, I can't use them all anyway.

I don't tolerate any reviewers rejections.....I find out who they are and threaten their lives. I tell them I just got out of prison on parole, and say "Don't make me have another body"
God * reviewers. making bubble gum wages.

"....and then hope that you will be right....."
I do not present my question as an argument "for, or against" for opting in - out. I just lay the cards on the table, and leave the rest to common sense and your best judgment.
It's not a question that requires an answer it was rhetorical.

Question:
What happens to all the photographers that have opted out of subs, if all the buyers go to subs?
Do they starve for DL's?

In the last two months, I have had to upload over 450 new images. In all I had about 10 rejections. All of which were subsequently accepted after minor edits, and resubmitting.
Good luck, The MIZ

"Lately, I have the feeling, the more files I've got, the less I sell "
I shared that same felling a little over one year ago. A re-evaluation of my portfolio revealed I was uploading images that were destined NOT to SELL by the their very nature of the images I had been uploading.
A quick turn around in my way of thinking, and uploading the proper images eventually put me on the right track and I am once again successful at this game and every image now produces it's own little gold mine.

This malady of slow reviewing times is perhaps distinguished as a "selective" or "isolated" problem. In my uploading to StockXpert this month I have submitted 75 mew images. All but the last 3 (which I uploaded last nite) have been reviewed and are up for sale at this time.
Nearing the end of my second month with StockXpert, (I am a new contributor) I have a total of 464 images in my Gallery. I have managed a total of 319 DL's for the amount of $224.20 in that time.
For the month of MARCH 154 DL's and $112.40 total cash credits earned.
I hope my rather fortunate beginnings on StockXpert is a sign of things to come. I have not opted out of SUB's sales, nor do I intend to at this time. SUB's account for 43 of the 154 sales this month. That amounts to $12.90 of the total $112.40 for the March.
StockXpert has jumped ahead of all but one of my stock sites (only 3 others) I perhaps has the potential of becoming the Number one seller if the trend continues.

After reading some more of your replies a thought stuck me.
Under which conditions would I be more content:
1. selling 25 images for $1.00 2. selling 100 images for .30 cents?
The second option has one distinct advantage over the other. Can you guess? The answer is not of course the additional $5.00 you made....that's too obvious.
It is for this OTHER advantage that I would even forsake the additional $5.00!
Anyone care to guess what that is?

Clivia...........Truer words were never spoken.
It's my belief that those people who have "Opted Out" are under the impression that the customer is faced with a choice at the moment of downloading: Subscription, or Credit download. This is NOT the case.
Those who have decided to opt out are otherwise missing out on valuable cash they could have had otherwise. These customers are two groups separate and apart from one another.
It becomes enormously frustrating for me on DT when I see a long string of .30 cent sub sales. Especially when I feel I have worked so diligently on those images.
To be paid just 30 cents for those images seems an outrageous injustice to my ego. After all I make $100 an hour Freelance. Alas, that type of thinking will NOT serve me well.
It remains a fact, that if you opt out of StockXpert's subs, you will experience LESS downloads. I don't claim to say you will see a significant drop in your earnings. However you put yourself in a position NOT to receive the benefit of sales you otherwise might have had.
