Give me a year to think about it.

^^ don't stop there. Let it all out.

gbalex, is a good member and one of the few that dares to oppose. I find your comment somewhat naive. BTW, I made payout over there after 2 days so its no sour grapes. Just observations really.

My comment was addressed to you.

Never mind. My own fault for joining in. As usual when reading these threads I'm none the wiser. For example, Someone says SS is favoring 25c downloads then someone else pops up claiming new stuff isn't selling so why bother uploading. Which is it? Who has a handle on the truth? Where are the numbers?

Nice of them to ask. I wonder if they send out a similar shot to buyers who haven't spent any money for some time....if so it is probably the full extent of Alamy's marketing campaign.

I'm going to use animals again:

SS - Blue Whale (BME)
BS - Killer Whale (BME)
IS -  Beluga Whale (my best month since Jan 2011)
FT - Porpoise
DT - Ray (as in flat)
DP - Squid
Others - Clam

Moving around a bit and picking things up also helps.

I vote we bring duelling back.

I take it back. The protagonists would probably spend an hour shrilly arguing over some finer point of duelling etiquette - and end up being shot by their own seconds.

I imagine this observation was made in Egypt about 3,000 years ago.

Hubby: "Look at all these papyrus notebooks we've made. I've got a back room piled high with stock I can't sell."

Wifey: "Well they want shifting. I can't get to the Nile through all that junk."

Hubby: "I'll have to lower prices - otherwise demand will dry up and I'll have to go back to washing camels."

In other words, all this has been said before and will be said again. No offence, but that's how I choose to look at it. It keeps me sane.

It's a good day to be a vector artist.  ;)
Sean produces vectors and various other media.

And tee shirts with his face on the front.

S J won't be competing with me either because my stuff is cr*p in comparison.

I did well with two very good days on the 16th/17th which seems to be a peak period judging by feedback in this thread. Anybody else see an uptick between the 16th - 19th?

Given IS's unique talent for ballsing up their ledger, I'm slightly worried the machine might have burped out the wrong numbers again.

Being primarily a buyer, I never look at anyone's individual ports. I simply view the search results, add images to light-box, then sort through those selected. The only times I've ever deleted an image from a site(s) is when a buyer wants exclusive rights to an image (only happened twice).

Of course, in my post above I meant to write "valued customer" not "mug". Don't know how that happened.

414
In summary: The agencies don't know the value of images and neither do the image makers.

415
Leave 'em up. It doesn't cost anything and there is always some mug out there who thinks a picture you made in 2007 of clothes pegs on a washing line is high art - and worthy of an extended licence.

Doing very well so far, which means it will chafe that much more when they finally figure out how to do their sums - and start reaching across the table for my previous winnings. Pirates.

But it's only the 28th!!

What probably happened is the IT Manager's hairpiece fell off and when he bent over to pick it up, his butt flicked the PP switch on - they just haven't noticed it yet.

Welcome to civilization Europe.

Those who are doing well rarely present counter arguments in the forums for four reasons I can think of straight away:

1. Too busy working on their port/business and can't be bothered
2. Knowing they will be ridiculed by others who apparently know better
3. They have no anonymity in the forums and are fed up with seeing their work plagiarized
4. Prefer to trust to their own experience and metrics in the absence of verifiable hardcore data

G'night.

(Added in the cold light of day) I fully appreciate the irony of not having any data to back these points up

No. The glue dried up on the sticky note that had the password to "Da Big Computer" on it - and it blew out the same window their accountant left open when he took a short cut to street level....head first.

My niece is currently putting my old Olympus Trip 35 through it's paces with Kodak Tri-x and loving it

No batteries required and the lens is crisper than a newly printed five pound note.

^^Supermarkets are middlemen and one could probably think of a hundred other business models where the middle man dominates the market; utility supplies, real estate, tourism. Microstock is puny in comparison.

I'd like a higher commission and I think the agencies take the p*ss but the value for me is in marketing and distribution. I wouldn't have anywhere near the revenue stream I currently generate without it. Competition is too fierce and I'm not that good/unique....very few are.

With close to 100.000 Contributors (over 95.000 currently) in the Flickr/Getty-program the party is pretty much over. In average files do better now in microstock exceptions are still possible but most selects are Flickr Open now which means they will put your files on Thinkstock.

Interesting, must be a lot of contributors like me with just a handful of images there. They say the collection is 600k but I can only find around 400k. In any event, what a puny collection for 95k contributors and a potential source via Flickr of billions of images. I wonder why.

December PP earnings                          $250
Recoupmentabilitationmentary             $249  minus
                                                        -----------
Nett Value      =                                    $1     YAY!

I would be interested to know what the OP decided - since he started this thread on 6th January.
