Zymmetrical.com / Re: First Sale Zymmetrical
« on: August 13, 2008, 09:24 »
Wow, a week later and another sale on Zymmetrical this morning.  Normally I wouldn't be so excited about 2 sales on a new site; but, these are pretty significant sales when you compare them to what the micros are paying.  Sales of $56 have earned me $39.20.
[...]
And they are still in beta. Who are their buyers
Maybe Zymmetrical staff ? 39.20$ for this kind of ads is not very expensive.
I start to be paranoiac... ;)

123RF / Re: Percentage earnings 123rf / your best earner
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:38 »
Thanks guys. So it seems I'm the only one person selling nothing at 123rf (this month 3$). I was thinking about remove my portfolio but if 123rf works good for you I'll just  stop uploading here. And wait.

StockXpert.com / Re: POLL: StockXpert Opt-in
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:29 »
I don't understand the reasoning of choosing "Yes, on a trial basis". How will you determinate if this experiance was good or not. And when ?
If you sell nothing at Photos.com is it good ?
If you sell a lot 0.30 subscriptions at Photos and your average earnings go down at others sites, what will you do ?
If you see your images at Ebay ? Good or not ?....

123RF / Percentage earnings 123rf / your best earner
« on: August 12, 2008, 04:46 »
I'm very surprised to see 123rf doing so well in earnings pool results. The score of 4.2 means for me that average photographer earns about 60% of SS or 70% of IS at 123rf!
It's not my case. In july 08 I got more at IS than in 26 months at 123rf!  Am I only one unlucky person at 123 ?
Poll :
Let's say your best earner (usually SS or IS) is 100%. What part of this money you get (at the year) at 123 ?
Example:
Your IS earnings = 2000$ and 123rf earnings = 200$ -----> 200/2000 = 10%

General Stock Discussion / Re: Regarding "Editorial" images...

I though that it was forbbiden to take pictures at events like concerts. Are you authorized to sell this kind of photos (even under editorial licence) ?

Shutterstock.com / Re: Have you all seen this, SS on demand
« on: August 06, 2008, 02:30 »

Well, it would be kind of silly for SS to take that into consideration :-) - but I am glad I didn't go to the trouble of downsizing everything to 4MP before uploading to them.  Could pay off a bit now.

c h e e r s
fred

Why would that pay off??

All images in SS have a SMALL/MEDIUM/LARGE/SUPER format, regardless of the original size.

In my case I always downsize to 3 or 4MP, so my large version of the image is 3 or 4MP, and this will most likely result in having the buyer buying the large version, hence making me more money  ;D

Cphoto is right.

and offering PPD options for EPS format vectors ranging from 50$-250$, I confess I was delighted. PPDs priced as mid-macrostock is good news and on top of that on a site that I would never get anyways.
So you think that 50-250$ sales are posible at Photos.com ?
For me it looks like "everything for 1$" shop with one display with 250$ prices. Not same kind of buyers.

This industry is already undermined and accepting the subscription plan here as it now stands only deepens the undermining of the industry.

It is well past time that these greedy agencies came back to the realization that WE are the ones that THEY work for not the other way around. The Agency is the AGENT that means they make their livings off of our talent. They own nothing but servers, we own the content and as such if we stand UNITED on issues we remain in control.

It is time for the contributing content creators in this industry to grow sacks and stand up against this fiscal abuse.

It truly is sad that JI and StockXpert have gone down the same greed lined path as the rest of this industry. I actually liked it here but the truth is that under the current conditions I am done here. My legacy portfolio can remain as long as it does not contribute to the undermining of my sales elsewhere and everyone else here needs to stand up and take the same stance here and WE WILL WIN THIS ONE.

DO NOT OPT IN TO StockXpert / PHOTOS.com Subscriptions. To do so only weakens an already terminally weak industry. The health and strength of this industry lies firmly in the hands of the contributors. We own the content and as such we own the power! To win though WE have to ACT TOGETHER!
Agree with Bobby

After writing them  asking for my images to be removed (with no answer), I tried to delete my images 1 per day, 2 per day, 3 per day...
Today I tried logging in to Albumo to delete my  photos and my account is gone!
Finaly they cancelled it. I red somewhere about blocking images for 400 days with them. Maybe my 400 days period was over. :D

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Underwater Photography
« on: August 04, 2008, 05:34 »
I'm not underwater specialist but I can give you same tips.
- without flash dont go deeper than 6 m. Best colors are at 3-5 meters.
- you can use slow shutter speed, but not less then 1/125 for 35mm glass.
- weight of you house+camera should be balanced for sinking (but just a little)
- you can use scuba diving ballon (at the surface) with 10m rope so you can attach your camera and some equipments to this rope. So if you seen big shark and lose your 5D you can still find it  ;D
- dont change lenses under water ;)
- always make a sealing test before diving

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Images on Photos.com

StockXpert is in big trouble. I was asking myself why top contributors are silence. One of them is back (Maxfx) from vacation. He is not happy at all. StockXpert will lose many portfolios. If they lose only 300000 images that it means they have to review more then one million new images to get back the numbers of today (average acceptance is 1 for 3-4 submitions). Reviewers will be rich.
Monday StockXpert plays his future. Hoppeful StockXpert is not like Albumo, I need only 1 hour to delete my all portfolio (about 900 images).

Maybe VIP accounts have differents TOS. :-\

Why remove your portfolio before the final details are revealed?  StockXpert is one of the few companies to actually listen to us.
Sure, I'll wait until the details are revealed then immediatly remove all. I'm pessimist.

If you want to delete more then 1 images per day:
Open "remove this photo" window on 2 or more computers
then enter "ok" at the same time.
Interesting idea!  I don't often have more than one computer near me, but I'm going to try this when I can.
It works even with one computer but it's more difficult. You have to open mutliply browser's windows and validate deleting very fast.

StockXpert.com / Enhanced License, 800x600px and StockXpert
« on: July 31, 2008, 05:06 »
Things probably won't change at StockXpert so I'll remove my portfolio. :-[
I hesitate to reupload my images back to them, but only at 800x600 size.
My question : is 800x600 px size enough small to prevent EL usage. Any EL's buyers here ?
Thanks.

I will give it a chance for a month or two.......but if it starts looking bad...........I too will be deleting all of my 3,000 photos.......
Just curious, what do you expect to see after 2 months to make your decision ?

The real problem is if we continue to work with StockXpert now, it means that we are ready to accept everything. Why others, "fair" sites like SS will give us every year increase ?
Payouts will decrease everywhere and very soon in this case. So before make this decision think about what you can lose in ENTIRE microstock and not only at StockXpert. Are you sure that SS, IS... are altruists ? Maybe that's the reason why DT is waiting with royalties updates...

I read the StockXpert thread and this one and it seems that contributors are threatening to leave StockXpert over this.
Yep, and not the worst.
I remember when Lumax3D (gold man) removed his portfolio from StockXpert I was a big mess. Same designers were in trouble and have to buy his images at another site.
