Alamy.com / Super keywords?
« on: February 17, 2021, 07:02 »
As my sales are almost inexistant at Alamy I stopped to select "super" keywords (stars) and not doing any optional tagging - just uploading.
So far I cannot make any statement, I sold the pratically same number of "carefully" tagged (stars, description, category, country...) and just directly uploaded files with embedded keywords. But as I sold 10 (yes, ten!) any serious conclusion makes no sense.
Any ideas?

Probably any change you do it will be not be good for this person. He want to see you as a racist and never admit that the racist is him.
The only way to get "acceptable" keywords for him is to ask him to do this work by himself. Delegate this task. If he considere that "blond, hair, lesbian, chinese..." is more appropriated go for it. A logical discussion is not possible with idiots.

, did I miss something?
Yes, opt-out button.

Why not just help talented artists? "Underrepresented communities" seems to be the most important point. Are we not anymore the unique human community?

What does it take for them to wake up anyway? 0,01$? They rather continue complaining about it then take action? Do they have any self-respect? any value for their work? Any working brain cell left in there?
Their earnings are dropping so much soon they can't even use it as an excuse to stick around anymore. What will they do then, wait and hope for things to turn around at SS? chr.st!

It's because of this submissive mentality Shutterstock or any other company does whatever they want!

I don't blame Shutterstock anymore I blame them! and I do hope their sales will go down to 0,01$. Go for it Shutterstock, take everything they've got! They are too f.cking dumb anyway!

Even Jon himself said if you don't like it then take your content and go yet they still don't get the message.
I have never seen such a sad bunch of people in my whole life, beyond pathetic!
And they are supposed to be educated and skilled professionals/hobbyists. If they were new at this and don't have a clue yet then maybe it would be forgivable but these are experienced contributors for gods sake!

So to those who are still active at SS, stop whining and suck it up! you get what you deserve! now drop your pants and bend over!
+1
I didin't get any $0,10 or $0,34 video earnings. It was easy, I just had to disable sales.
I don't understand of people who still accept offals SS thowns. But maybe they are smarter then I, have a "business plan" I miss. Even the person who is running this forum stil has 28k images at SS and hasn't said a word he was unhappy with the new commission structure.

I have done some researches, I found an old list with the bigest portfolios:
http://web.archive.org/web/20180815172927/http://www.microstock.club/indeximg.phtml

Number 2 is Africa Studio, #1 Toluk with 1,5 million images.
Today Toluk has 3 images on Shutterstock...

I wish it was 2003.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think about this Mr Rinder, about what SS has done?

You plan to continue supporting them as an artist?

Apparently! Looks like his cousin is the smart one!

Sorry old man but you kept telling everyone you dont need the money yet you continue to support them making 0,10c? What gives?
You have the right to do whatever you want obviously but I thought you would be amongst the first to disable your portfolio.
For some you have been an annoyance but for many others you have been an inspiration and teacher.

Is this the example you want to set for your followers?

Alright take care Laurin!
Strange world.
Photo factories like Africa Studio left SS but "good old time" gurus stay for 10cts.

Photos took a hit today (you'll have to scroll the chart).

Possibly as a result of Africa Studios removing their 1,162,088 photos.

Probably, like Mr. Oringer said, they didin't work enough and were in Level 1.

Someone has highlighted an interesting aspect of slow fading of disabled images :
" I can't buy your image although I can see it. Screenshot attached - an error above of the image is shown...

But this means that the amount of images displayed in the database is far from correct.

It also means that there will be more frustrated buyers who want to buy an image but can't, which is certainly annoying.
Additional to that it means that the communication effort for the staff at the moment could be gigantic if more and more buyers have to contact support because they want to have exactly this image. Or the buyers are fed up at some point and buy somewhere else

« on: June 08, 2020, 07:15 »
I was curious to see what graphic designers thought about all this so I googled for top GD forums and took a look.
Surprise, I haven't found any topics related to new SS earning structure.
Maybe you could share some of these GD forum links and we all can start spreading the word there also. Politely and firmly

But as I am not a part of graphic designers community I don't know a value of this list.

Just a thought (question):
by deactivating the portfolio on June 1, isn't there a risk of not receiving the earnings for May that should be paid at least in June?
And if this is the case, isn't it better to wait until you have been paid before you deactivate your portfolio?
I don't really trust Shutterstock any more these days...
I deactivated my portfolios (images + videos) on 1st of June.
Got my paypal payment for may today.

Shutterstock.com / Dream time to disable files
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:44 »
I don't understand why people don't disable portfolios.
Today, maybe for the last time, we have great Oportunity to change something or at least not to let it be worst.

During past conflicts (iStock, DPC...) the argument for not deleting files was time invested in uploading, keywording and lost of ranking. Today, with one click we can make our files invisible for buyers and make them back with another click (search position seems to be kept). What a powerful and easy way to 'vote'.

Commission lost?  Apparently we have already lost 3 to 4 time of earnings, included highest levels. On 1st of January everybody will be 1st level, so worst then today. What if they lower commissions even more? We accepted 70% cut probably additional 20% will be ok. What if they lower their prices to be more competitive, they can do that with money they took from us.

And what sign our weakness will send to competition. Do you think AS is a charity compagny? They treat us well and Mat is a nice person but they are not idiots and noy will able to compet.

For an artist who earned 1000$ / month (and today 250 ) is it not worth to 'invest' 250$ to get 9000$ (75012month)? In stock market it would be exceptional deal.

Shutterstock.com / Synchronized portfolio disabling?
« on: May 31, 2020, 04:17 »
As many of us will disable portfolios on 1st of June what if we do it simultaneously? What could be impact on servers and customers experience?

We are all over the world, in different time zones but doing it in 3 steps is possible.
For example:
18:00 GMT for America (NYC 2pm, LA 11am)
04:00 GMT for Asia/Australia (2pm Sydney, 1pm Tokyo)
12:00 GMT for Europe/Africa (2pm Berlin/Paris, 3pm Moscow)

15
Just be careful about disabling your images and videos I did that three days ago
and as a test tried to re-enable my portfolio yesterday and today and I'm just getting

"You have changed your settings too many times today. Please try again later"

Seems like once you disable they aren't letting you back in
Not my case.
Before disabling both photo & video portfolios I wanted to figure out how the system works, so I only disabled then re-enabled videos. It took about 36 hours for first and 48 h for second step, without any problem.
I compared the search ranking, before/after disabling,  of 3 files and the placement were better but it could be "new" file boost and not "real" ranking.
As I'm lazy and don't want to calculate my new commissions I will disable my portolios on 3rd of june to have some numbers before.

What was the first prize? 30, 50 $?
They vannot afford it anymore.

leaf........ maybe time to clean up the forum Posts ....2006 is a Looooong time ago man. Back when we were young.....LOL hope your good.

Disagree! This forum is the only actual worthy library on stock history.

People might get bored to search but the whole story and tips are "here".

Knowledge is here. Too bad if we don't dig enough except "how much" or "how long will it take"!
Agree 100%.
We can learn a lot from history. My memory is perfectible and sometimes I need a help to check when and why I started to hate iStock, who was LisaFx, who published amazing reviewer story which was actually not his.
And there is no risk that old topic "pollute" fresh subjects list until someone digs it out.

iStockPhoto.com / Coronavirus editorial rejections
« on: March 19, 2020, 09:33 »
Did they change editorial rules? For the first time I got random, seems to me, rejection related to street images in Covid-19 lockdown cities. Below given reasons:

++Please remove references to lockdowns or other current events. We cannot accept news/current events content in iStock's Creative Unreleased collection - such content will be rejected. Please edit your caption to simply describe literally what is seen in the image without reference to current events. Thank you.

++Uploads to the Creative or Creative Unreleased collection will be rejected if they are News, Sport, Entertainment or Event Coverage. If you wish to upload such images, you will first need to apply to Getty Images to become an Editorial contributor for that site. Please note that Editorial Photo contracts are generally only offered to working photo-journalists. More info here: https://contributors.gettyimages.com/workwithus/ArticleView.aspx?article_id=1105

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 sales
« on: February 27, 2020, 13:04 »
Pond5 have gone from one of the top two footage agencies, to quickly becoming a third rate agency. Whoever is running the show there has failed miserably over the past year. They need to act fast before their agency is destroyed beyond repair.
I have 2 accounts (exclusive et no-exc). Both are dead.
Before April 2019 I used to have 3 digits, exeptionally 2 digits,  monthly commissions. So far this year 0 (zero) downloads.
I was a big fan, it is not a case anymore...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock vs Adobe Stock
« on: February 27, 2020, 12:51 »
I sell a lot more on AS than SS, both photos and videos. I also like AS more, they accept a lot more than SS.
AS is improving every week, SS with impressive consistency is going down.
Last month, for the first time, I earned more on AS. February is much better so far too. And I have 30% of images which are on SS and havent been uploaded to AS so far.

iStockPhoto.com / iStock download numbers don't match
« on: February 27, 2020, 12:37 »
Every year istock reset downloads number on first of January.

On 31st of January I checked # downloads. Once the earnings for January were published I compared both. They don't match.
The number of downloads in "Profile / Downloads Year to Date" is 18% higher compared to data in "Performance / Downloads" and numbers in Exports from "Royalties" page.
So I calculate numbers of my downloads in Deepmeta. They are diffrent of both above, somewhere in the middle...
Is a part of my dowloads lost in Bermuda triangle?

I got emails from

Acquisition Associate

and

Administrative & Customer Care

so I guess this is both support and content team.

But I just wrote to contributor support.
Same, I got 2 confirmations. It took 3 days.

As I saved a link to one of my files at Hyperstock I tried it yesterday, it doesnt work anymore.

Reading embedded metadata directly from video files, like Pond5 does, will be great.

Off Topic / Re: What is your dream car?
« on: January 04, 2020, 08:01 »
I was and still am a Car freak. I had 2 ferraris. a 72 Dino coupe and also a 74 Daytona. Both red. I paid $17,000 for the Dino and $24,000 for the Daytona. The Dino Now is worth $340,000 and the Daytona a Cool 600,000 also a Jaguar 1956 XKE 140 coupe I paid $6,000 for it in 1961 and Now?????? 500K at Least. and........4 Ex Wives........LOL  Live and Learn. The Dino was rented By the TV show "Hart to Hart" with Robert Wagner: 1979 to 1984.

Wow, I am impressed!
But I've always wondered how somebody like you who has made music for thousands of Movies and TV shows and get millions of royalties, somebody like you having houses in Beverly Hills and villas in Malibu, somebody like you having Ferraris and Jaguars has finished to sell photos for 38 on Shutterstock
It would be interesting to know...
