Newbie Discussion / Re: New microstocker :)
« on: June 22, 2010, 19:53 »
From what I've heard, it's taking two week or so for new reviews to be made, maybe longer right now because of some site problems and several of the inspectors being at a junket in Cannes.
You certainly need more patience in the microstock game.
I'd be really interested in why you applied there when you "didn't want to contribute to them anyway".
As for the percentage business, when I started off, I submitted RF to iStock (20% non-exclusive) and a small UK specialist agency (RM; 40% to photog.) With the RM agency in over 3 years I've had one sale, netting me less than I currently get in iStock in each week of this year except this week. I've got about 600 pics in Alamy (60% to photog) and in a year I've made 4 sales, the total of which is less than I've earned on iStock every week this year except this week. (To be fair, I've got less than 200 files in the UK agency, and haven't uploaded anything for about 2 1/2 years, since they were moving their main focus from 'UK' to specifically Welsh. And I've just gone over the 2000 files on iStock, so it's slightly apples and oranges).
However, as Sean would say, if you don't contribute to iStock, that's less opposition for the rest of us.  :-*

Maybe I should have clarified a bit more on "didn't want to contribute to them anyway." Being new to stock photography, I didn't know much about it when I applied for an account. After some research, I found out what my work -mainly interested in wildlife- was better off with RM in a traditional stock agency like Alamy.

And for those of who contribute quality work to microstock, I have a question- why do it? You get an unfair payment for the time you spent in getting the shot. Those of you who say you do it for fun, not money- why not contribute your good works to macrostock, and not so good to micro?
As I stay in India, I guess I'll have to settle for finding the yeti.

Are you lost child of "our" member who has multiple nicks? eg "OldHipie, Macrosaur, etc .....

iStockPhoto.com / Re: MyUpload icon disappear???
« on: June 21, 2010, 22:21 »
I don't know anyone who buys via categories anyway.

I think in buyers perspective categories are included like drop down menus like suggestions when you editing keywords. eg. did you mean... Spring like xxx means of it + they best match algo buyer finds its way to closer look in some of suggestions.
Also buyers are choose one of categories and search entire that.
I also dont know is this option only suspended from Nonexclusives because I only rant for that in this post, or in they new design they will thrash/disable this option and only prefer they exclusives thru with only them recognizable best match which will take half a year for lets say "fine tuning" whatever means from it latest upgrades.
Anyhow how months and years are passed I really dont know what geeks are constantly doing?!
I know! They want to work less and screw us with biggest% and be geeks in they nature...

« on: June 16, 2010, 18:13 »
I really dont understand what you want. From you port views do you think that if you catch 7D or MK2 it will be outstanding better?!?
NO! 550D has min 90% performance as 7D but in plastic case. Who cares is it plastic or titanium or other alloy if we are changing cam body every one or two years.
Anyhow how you catch image from electronic microscope?

Newbie Discussion / Re: Repeated rejection from iStockphoto
« on: June 07, 2010, 20:58 »
My current acceptance rate on istock (for recent images) is excellent, and most rejections are for similars. I'm shooting still-life type shots, different subjects under very similar lighting (strobes and reflectors) and it works well. However, I don't even bother taking my camera outside anymore. Too many rejections for lighting from outdoor shots.

Wow
Averil catch on strobes :)
Only on iStock they dont say to you that they will earn you pay back :)
Sorry Averil I cant help myself with stupid argue :)

Image Sleuth / Re: Pirated istock images ?
« on: June 07, 2010, 20:37 »
@ sjlocke - I doubt poor people need our images. That's why I think our images are stolen by people who are making money on them. I don't see any entertainment in collecting and distributing stock images, and I think it's pretty different than watching pirated movies at home. I mean, the purpose of these two thefts are different.

@Suljo - Rapidshare, Megaupload are legal services, and they are not mentioned to be home for pirated things. But, unfortunately, they are alive thanks to pirated software, and they won't erase anything if someone doesn't make a complaint about specific link that leads to pirated thing. They of course know they are full of cracked programs and pirated movies and music, but they are making lots of money by hosting these files. So, they are pretending they don't see it. Pirates also use passwords to protect their files. They are putting them into password protected rar and zip files, so they can't be scanned by any software.
If we want our images to be saved from free distributing, I think we should search internet everyday, and report any pirated links to rapidshare, Megaupload, or whatever service it is. They MUST delete the file that is pirated. They just won't do it without complaint.

This all is wrong in first place about.
This "Shares" sites are guilty like Napster, they have stolen copyrigth content on they site, servers whatever. From year to year capacity of disc space cost nothing and I feel that this "Share" sites pay and encourage this new buthead users to fill it up with stollen content without any consequences!!!!
From day to day new creatures are involved in some how to made they "own" jabber Blog crap without any or crappy comments and I think it is not problem with me or that users. Problem is with "share" servers which main purpose is to share they own documents between two and not to share to rest of the world...

Image Sleuth / Re: Pirated istock images ?
« on: June 07, 2010, 19:14 »
I think that "Our" agencies must screw up this Rapid, Mega, Hotfile servers or whatever they name is in way like music agencies screw Napster few years ago.
Obviously we cant fight with 99% of new degeneric net users who only know how to log in on mail and Myspace or FaceBook and share stolen files, images, movies... thru Rapid and other servers.
I really dont know why that server sites dont erase any user who steal just one file like on stock sites?!? What they are doing?
If you complain for you stolen image they turn that image down (if you are lucky after month or soo) and they retard user have all other thousands of stolen images in his "port" without youre one?????? what???????????

For Mac you have free application MPEG Streamclip. You can crop or enlarge, and rotate movie by any percent or angle. Also convert to any format and codec + some very very basic color cast correction.

I am blind or their is no option to rotate by given number of degrees. How do you do this?

Sorry
Its my mistake, I wasnt open application few months. It only works with crop factors, and crop positions.
Anyhow it is very useful application.
Sorry again.

One of the biggest Croatian commercial television, their site:

http://dnevnik.hr/vijesti/zdravlje/grozdze-za-mozak-francuski-paradoks.html

See the label with a picture, everything is legal, TV house makes money, only we make cents... >:(

Finally I dig it up whats the catch 22
this and other portals stole some Getty images from google images.
There are lots of wanabe overpaid pompose letter creators and they need stock images
Not portals but writers e.g. search on google by images/pistures and compound it in they online story.
After that Getty black mail them to subscribe at ThinkStoka and then will not be law persuit.
Very very clever...............
So dont to be simpatic to view how BBC and Getty are licking them selfes.
So for BBC and other companies to avoid millionare judgements Gre(d)tty has solution. They must to sign up to ThingStoka.......
Cathch 22 is force up "big" houses to make contract with them.
And for all of us is big loose................

Cameras / Lenses / Re: 5dmk2 OR Studio lights!
« on: June 04, 2010, 22:15 »
Depends what kind of shutter you are and also skills in image editing. If you are shooting most outdoor why you need lights? Take MK2
If you are macro inside shooter fan, take proper lights (600W/s will be ok) and many noise problems on 450D will disappear, and with this images earn for MK 2 or 3...
If you are 60/60% shooter I dont know what to suggest to you...
