How do I delete a file on DT that's a duplicate upload? Also there's one that's a corrupted upload.
If you hover the cursor over the upper left corner of where the preview pic is, you should see a trash can. Click and done.
Ah, many thanks. I created the problem, well that with my crappy slow internet, connection timing out, socket errors, half uploads, Cannot retrieve file from FTPAnother one of those hover things, that I might have guessed if I was winging around with the mouse? Then I would have seen that little red trash can. Thank You!

Just bookmark Insights(Activity) page and refresh if you want to see details and sales changes, seems much easier and simpler than bunch of emails. I sound like lawyer of Adobe stock
While the "Insights" page has some nice functions, it's also seriously lacking. There are no usable sales report. There should be a page with all you recent downloads listed chronologically. Without having to set date ranges or anything. That would be very basic. Now there is now way to comfortably follow your sales. What i see is that the Fotolia contributor site has been shut down without providing a usabale alternative first
Insights > My Statistics > Activity > display Statistics and after you view that, the website remembers, bookmark that page. The default date is last three months. You don't have to set or select anything. Now your landing page will be, Activity without having to click anything. Nice and easy, just takes getting there the first time.
The subject here is the combined emails which take us to all time Best Sellers by money instead of recent Activity.
I know this. But this is what i need. I don't want date ranges. And even if you set it to the current day, the downloads ar not in chronological order, so when you visit it, you don't know immediately which sales are fresh. This page is way to complicated to to use to see your recent sales. I list of recent download which is not sorted by earning value and constrained by any date range, just a continuous list would be quite essential. And they can't provide this very basic thing at least give us back the sales report emails
Sorry, but mine are in chronological order. You don't need to set the date range, but we can, which if it wasn't there, others would complain that they CAN'T set the date range? So you want then sorted in date order by earnings? There are four choices in the drop down box. (actually five but withholding means nothing to me) Top Sellers, Downloads, Earnings, Activity. What did you want? Ignore date range if you don't want it, that's set to the last three months by default. If you want a bigger range for some reason, you can pick last year, the same months for example. The date range is a potentially useful tool. Yes I realize change is sometimes difficult, but the new website has many good features and it's very simple, once someone takes the time to look. Also there are some important features we could use, like sort on our own, when we want to edit keywords, without going through page after page to hunt randomly for an image. Give it a chance and look around. ps Come Nov. we won't be having this discussion, will we? Might as well adapt now and make the best of what we have.

Some great answers. Yes Alamy is different from Microstock. That's the easiest way to view them. While Alex is right, an image on Microstock can also sell on Alamy, I'll say in 10 years, for myself, that has happened once. While the other way, something on Alamy selling on Microstock, happens more often. Different buyers, different content sells better. Same as SS vs AS where different images sell better on each. 40% of almost nothing nothing sold, might be 40% but it's much less than I get at Microstock sites. At this stage I lack motivation to upload to Alamy. That can change, but for right now, I'll work where I make the most.

As far as I can see:
a) ALL the multiple batches are wrong. b) Most of single batches are ok. Some of them, very few I think, are wrong.
The mistakes are BIG, most of them wrong countries, wrong places and wrong buildings (church instead of a lighthouse or "factory" and "chimney" in Trafalgar Square for the Nelson's Column).
A great help the automatic generated words.
Never had a problem, which makes me wonder why many others haven't had the same as you. Did I unclick suggestions or something? But also just asking for interest because it matters. What are you using to keyword? What computer, what browser? That can make a difference. For example if you are on a MAC with Opera and I'm on WIN10 with FireFox, we are not having the website handle us all the same. Might be helpful to get answers from someone using the same as you are.

Opinion: If anyone honestly believes that having 1,000 of the same image (or 100 or 20) with nothing more than filters or color shifts, is going to make them more money, let them be lost in that delusion. To answer directly, I don't think having the many will help or hurt anything much at all. I don't care, but I won't do that myself or just to have a bigger collection or more numbers. More images doesn't = more money. I honestly think that any buyer who sees a page of, lets just be fair, 20 of the same image or setup, and was looking for something like that, they will find something else that stands out. You can't stand out in a crowd of similar looking images, identical images with nothing but color changes, or same elements arranged in minute variations. In the eyes of someone looking for an image that stands out, for their use or illustration, you have just made your work look like something, common, ordinary and the impression is they are not special or unusual in any way. Why would any of us intentionally make our images look common, or ordinary? Seems like our goal is the opposite, in order to attract buyers. If there's a reason or an angle or some change, in a similar shot, that would justify any different versions of a similar subject, by all means do that. I won't say, don't do many of a subject just based on numbers, just because of the number. Just like keywords, only as many as are needed to properly cover the contents for a search, only as many images to cover the concept and creation of the composition. What anyone else does, is of little concern to me, I'm just expressing my personal view of what I do and what I upload. I think that's a better plan. I might be wrong. Did I ever say this before? Less is More?

I see nothing wrong with one daily email, but the content is totally useless. I would rather see the breakdown of sales, not a total + bestseller. I want to know what files are selling, not only one best seller.
Noonish again and yes, take us to Activity not best sellers please. I think pretty much everyone wants to see what's selling now recently.

Title says it all. I'm genuinely interested in figuring out how can I make $150k/year from stock photos/videos?
It's fun to do - now I'd like to figure out how to reach those numbers. Figured I may as well ask in case anyone has some good ideas. Ideas/suggestions?
Perhaps - hypothetically - imagine you personally *were* currently making $150k/year from microstock. What would you have to be doing to acheive that?
Thanks!
Open a video agency and pay poor suckers about 15% cut when you distribute their videos. Otherwise I think the answer is pretty close to this: First you start with $200,000 and then buy 50K worth of gear.
I think it would be very hard to impossible as an individual these days - so you either have to have an image/clip factory, or start a microstock site that just sends all the "assets" to other sites and skims 70-85%.
More like, start with $100,000 buy gear, hire models, editors, and rent locations. Build a collection of 10,000 good videos your project starting goal. In other words, you can make $150k a year, but it's going to take maybe $100,000 funding the startup and probably five years, in the current market, to do that.

@Uncle Pete
Could you send me an example of a JPEG file that lost metadata to [email protected] ? Also, did you receive any error messages when you've tried to save metadata in those files? And did you save them manually or saw the program saving them?
I'll do that, but I replaced the missing data. Should I upload a file and look for one that lost data, is that what you need? Files already had metadata, I did use the save data on StS. I believe it happens after the message "metadata has changed" Thanks for the always caring response and I'll describe in the email, if I can replicate. This is a windows screen. If you right click on any file in your file explorer and click "properties", you will see something like this. With JPEG files, the details tab of this shows what information is being stored in the file itself - the keywords etc.
Steve
That's easy, will look. OK many more, but easy way to see them. Might be the keywording software that I use, not detecting changes. For nearly everyone it will never be a StS issue. When I look with explorer properties they are still there. Sending one of each in anyway.

Hi Everyone,
I want to give you a heads up. Starting tomorrow, instead of sending email notifications for each sale you receive all day long, we will begin sending one email per day with the aggregate total of sales from the day prior.
Kind regards,
Mat Hayward
Oh good, less binging notifications on the phone and less emails. Works for me. One a day. Now I wonder what time?

I just noticed the zip file that's supposed to be a DT xls, on their site, contributors pages. Downloaded and tried to unzip: False positive or what? Anyone know?

But Zazzle sell products rather than images. Most people I talk to find them expensive plus its getting easier and easier for people to create their own design. Zazzle has never been viable for me just sell a few postcards now and then.
Pretty much my experience, but I know people who worked hard and did well there. Another one of the place I used to work. I don't understand how it hurts Zazzle to have an inactive account? I mean the products are there if someone wants them. Unless they just want to consolidate and get rid of non-performers and too many duplicates. Does storage cost them that much? Lean and mean, maybe that's the idea. Easier for buyers to find the better offerings. I don't think the reduction will hurt someone like I was in the past, making a few dollars here and there, and it can't hurt the site, if they have a more popular (by sales) collection.

Thanks, Steve very useful.
Uncle Pete you mentioned about embedding the title of the photo, how do you go about doing that? When you export from LR do you use a title as a custom file name?
Thanks
Sorry I use Elements and Breeze Browser Pro, someone who knows LR will need to answer. Here's something I did when I had LR2 So where it says Irfanview, that's what that software calls it. LR Etc. Breeze Browser screen.

Might be that I'm using legacy keywording software that uses XMP for data. I'll have to look at things in Lightroom or PS. I noticed that editing images, then saving, the Copyright changes back to unknown. More reason to think it's on my computer, not the software.
What is that screen from you attached? I'll go look. I still use Elements to edit photos and scans.

Hello,
Does anyone know which countries have the most amount of purchases or customers, or any way to acquire that information?
Thank you so much, Ron
Didn't some of the agencies used to report US sales and Other Sales? I don't remember, but I'd guess, unless you are looking at a German agency or someplace that's featuring their countries world, any of the big three should be about the same for US vs Other. This may help you or it may not. https://trends.builtwith.com/widgets/Shutterstock
Very nice! It would seem that the data could relate to downloads as well.

Still happen few sales a day without email notifications many with email notifications, I already send ticket.. Nothing solved yet.
I hate to ask since you probably already checked. Spam Folder? Does your mail service dump them into Spam and you never see them? I had that happening for one site, and it was Yahoo Mail, who runs many, many, email services for providers, under the name of the Internet company. For example I have Frontier and have an email address. It's really Yahoo. I have an AT&T account from work, it's actually Yahoo Mail. My old Prodigy email accounts are Yahoo. Go look online, not your mail downloads, if you do it that way, check the Spam folder, because once the email service decides one message is spam, all of them get tagged and pushed into that bin. Just an idea, good luck.

This never happens on my system. Yes, you do get the notice that the images have changed and do you want to save the changes, but that is because the status of the images has changed - ie they are now uploaded, submitted etc. I've never had the keywords removed or changed without me doing that directly.
Steve
So I can start to think it's a local issue. First time, I thought maybe I only entered the words on StS. New yesterday I made sure they were in the images, I uploaded, went back, the copyright change from Copyrighted to Unknown, Title stayed, Description stayed, all the keywords were gone.

They've been almost too consistent for me. Barely any ups or downs month after month.
They can't take on the big guys, so I don't see much upside with with 123RF. I think they've been cutting review staff which is probably why images don't get reviewed for months. I just hope they continue to remain consistent.
Did they ever have review staff? Small time operation, minimum staff or employees, because that costs money. This has always been a shoestring agency. What's more of a surprise to me, is how they have stayed up and ahead of the rest of the small agencies that are barely surviving. Maybe they do have something going on? When I see that they are double DT according to people here, that's a compliment to the returns some people make. Maybe I'm all wrong, but no matter, I'm also long gone.

Thank you for the answers.
I use to edit the pictures first, remove dust, etc. When I have a 10 batch I create a text file with the title and the keywords while I upload them to every agency with filezilla. Every single picture has a number, so I can find them (the name of the jpg is the number).
So I just copy and paste the information from the text file. First I submit to shutterstock to correct the words and add some of the sugestions.
Then the rest of agencies.
It's a quite similar method I think.
Doesn't matter much how people edit and upload, what editor or how we save and sort or make batches. Most important is always embed the data for later. Finding a text file in 2025 instead of having the photos stand alone, is a small time for a long future investment if you ever want to upload an image again. Heck I have trouble finding images again, I don't know how I'd find batches and text and match them up ten years later.

Bigstock's uploading system has been broken for almost two years and the FTP uploader doesn't work either.
I wrote to them once and they just didn't seem to care. The site will die soon IMHO
What surprises be though is not long back shutterstock took on new staff and invested money to "develop" the Big Stock site...very odd.
They did? That's odd, because back when they took over, the party line was, everything is the same, reviews, standards, Etc. Maybe they are going to sell it? I never understood the whole bridge thing, then no bridge, then cut the commissions in half. Remember you could get a raise if you got 50,000 downloads a year. Wow there's an incentive, for a special small group. The problem is if you get your picture wrongly uploaded you have to write them an email to delete those photos because there is no way to do it by yourself

I don't know if this is a bug or standard, but after I upload images, I get the notice that image data has changed. Fine, but then I go back and look at my images and all the keywords are gone. Does Stock Submitter strip out the keywords for some reason? What if I want to upload later, not using StS?
Or is this something on my system that's wrong?
