first, it would mean checking 1-2 million items - but larger problem is it's simple to change an image -- just adjust the lighting, saturation, etc by a slight amount, or resize slightly, etc

General Stock Discussion / Re: Most anal reviewers?
« on: April 18, 2008, 14:47 »
IS, DT and SS are the most consistent for me - FT has become impossible - dropping from 50% to 5% acceptance.  BigStock & 123 are middling - some arbitrary rejections, but  mostly ok.  albumo & feature take almost anything [except for one reviewer at albumo who reject 100% of 2  large, varied submissions], but they dont sell anything so it hardly matters.

i was ready to give up on BigStock, 123 and FT, but sales have improved there over the last 3 mos so i'll still submit when i have time.

Crestock.com / Re: Confusing Rejections
« on: April 18, 2008, 13:29 »
i'm new to crestock, soon to be GONE -- i've asked multiple times how hundreds of images accepted at other sites can be rejected out of hand by crestock, with minimal or no info on why.   .

i understand crestock claims to have stricter standards, but it's impossible to tell that from the reviewers - i have NO IDEA why 17 of 200 images were accepted

an added insult is having to click thru images 1 by 12 to  find out if any reason was given for the rejection.  granted crestock can do whatever they want, but ti would seem they'd have some concern about attracting photographers.

as far as the judge - i agree his selections are mostly random, but i really dont like the idea of ridiculing other people's work, when they havent asked for his opinion, and certainly not asked to be put up to public view.

General - Top Sites / Re: IS - poor business model
« on: April 15, 2008, 22:50 »
right, i have 5x the images in my featurepics port compared to IS, but that's a meaningless statistic.  IS limits it's uploads, so it's going to have fewer images than sites that take anything.  some buyewrs might even apprciate having reviewers do a a little bit of weeding for  them!

i set up a gallery site, hosted thru 1and1.com for $5/mo w great bandwidth and storage.    http://pix-now.com/main.php

i'd never done php - in fact i had to get a new site, since all my previous work was on MS SQL & ASP & vbscript

i had the site running in a day or so, and smoothed out shortly afterwards.  the support forums are excellent - both in what's already available, and in the detailed assistance users will supply.  i've got some additional refinements to do but have gotten sidetracked by an online game - googlemaps project

it'll do all the things OP asked about -- i've only used a small amount -- still playing with watermarks, i show 2 reduced sizes in addition to thumbnails, and provide the full sized version onl;y after download.  gallery also has cart software and ability to have people order prints, puzzles, t shirts directly.

if installing a site is too much for you right now, i'm offering free space in a separate album to any stock photographers wanting to experiment -- email me at [email protected] for details.

I've learned not to complain about rejections at the individual Micro site forums. Why? Last year, I complained at the forum of a site 'that shall remain nameless' about what I thought were outrageous rejections. Shortly after that, my uploads started flying through the que at lightening speed! The result? rejection, rejection, rejection... Hell, they weren't even subtle about it... The moral? Complain about rejection at your own risk. If you must complain, do it at an independent site like this one.

if the site is that unprofessional, you probably dont want to be there anyway....

in general, i dont bother much with rejections -- i just note the reason if it's something i can fix [lighting, noise, etc] and move on if i cant [suitability, focus, etc].  it's not worth spending a lot of time to suit one site when the others are accepting it, and if multiple sites reject it, there's probably a reason! afteer awhile you realize some sites are obsessive about noise, others about focus, etc and you can act accordingly.

i've had an overall positive experience with questioning rejections -- it all depends on what you're asking - most sites will help explain the why of a rejection;  one site had started sending all rejections batched together with a long list of possible problems.  shortly after i asked for more details, they started separating the results - focus, suitability, etc.

about the only time i actually question a particular decision is when something is rejected for copyright or model release reasons;  in most cases i've had those images accepted after a 2nd review.

mainly, we need to be positive in asking about rejections -- it's in the MS site and our uinterest to reduce the number of rejections.  i've found just about all the sites are willing to work with you.

Crestock.com / Re: 100 pictures out of focus?
« on: April 13, 2008, 01:22 »
I've already noticed this post and will check out those inspections and get back to you personally about it.

We have an integrated inspection system built and that loads the files completely before they are visible at 100%. The previous system from over a year ago may have caused some problems there, but not as far as i'm aware.

Thanks

The Crestock Team

i'm new to crestock, so i've been uploading only images that have been accepted at multiple other sites - usually 3-5 of the big 6.  my first results were not encouraging -- of 120, 6 were accepted, most of the rest were rejected for out of focus.  nothing exceptuinoal about the ones that were accepted.

also, is there any way to get a list of the rejected images and treasons or do you have to click on every one?

Photo Critique / Re: Help with IS rejection
« on: April 13, 2008, 01:18 »
i've had numerous flower pix accepted at the big 6, but sales are really low -- there's just too much out there.  so continue to try, butyou'll need to find another subject to get sales up.

Adobe Stock / Re: What is up with Fotolia??
« on: April 10, 2008, 17:43 »
agreed - over last few months fotolia has been completely arbitrary and their rejection reasons are useless.  i used to have about 50% accepted, now they take about 1-2%, while my acceptance rates at the biggies havent changed.

====Assuming that they threw this together with little thought is a bit naive. They've stated that it has been in planning for the better part of a year.

first, they HAVE been describin g this as a day to day system

why naive?  more like realistic -- do they REALLY think buyers are going to use the site EVERY day including weekends?  how many people need images every day?  and what happens when you need more than your allotment one day, but none for the next week?   the timesacle is just too short.  a subscription neeeds frexibility.

like others, i've had mixed feelings about past changes, but i dont get too concerned - it's their business - if they improve we both prosper; if they dont , i have other places to sell.  so far no MS has made an exclusive offer that's worth it for me to abandon all others.

i sell my images on my website http://pix-now.com/main.php and also link to my  ms portfolios -- on my site  i can also offer prints, puzzles, and other physical products using the images.

it uses Gallery, an open source project.  in that spirit, if others are intersted in testing the waters, i can offer an individual album hosted from my site.  email me if interested - [email protected]

i'm not sure how many buyers will accept day by day system -- doesnt seem ike IS really thought this thru -- do they really expect buyers to spend part of EVERY day selecting images?  even if the buyer's workflow included searching for new images every day, are they still going to work weekends?  certainly the SS stats show drops on weekends

single day use it or lose it just doesnt make any sense;  if IS doesnt change it, then the discussion will be moot since there will too few subscribers t omatter
