Hey....hey! I resemble that remark! I love to twiddle, all the day long

A grumpy old photographer is defined as one referring back to the "Good ol' Days" of film. FILM IS DEAD....may it rest in peace...and the GRUMPY Ol' photographer too!

Strictly speaking as a commercial artist and NOT a photographer: I would have to venture a guess that 90% of my inspiration comes from reviewing other peoples portfolios.
Sometimes I capitalize on only one element from another's portfolio. Other times, I will copy the entire idea, and improve on it, thus making my image outshine the original.
I rely on my ability to pick out what are the important elements of an image, evaluate them, and then decide whether I am able to improve upon the theme or elements.
Speaking strictly as a photographer: I don't feel qualified enough to call myself a "Stock Photographer". I use photographic elements in all but maybe 10% of my images. However I am classified as a "Fine Art Photographer"...the kind of photographer who would starve in the world of stock.
My photography is better served in private galleries, rather than on the stock circuit. This is why I have turned to being a "Hybrid Contributor".... Half artist half photographer. sort of a digital artist if I may.
Just so I make myself clear, I get my inspiration from everyone one of your images. I also incorporate TV ads, newspapers, magazines, billboards, and even greeting cards. Nothing is original in my portfolio that has not been inspired from somewhere else.

I have to echo Clivia exactly. Ever since I started doing the first 7 keywords correctly, I have had a run on the last 400 images I uploaded in the last 2 months. I used to make about from $35 to $45 a month. I am now breaking the $100 barrier on FT for the last two months.
It looks as though March will fall right in line as I currently have $82 in my account for March with 11 days to go yet in the month.

Sorry you are experiencing difficulties, however this tutorial has been viewed hundreds of times before without any mention of similar complaints. Perhaps as you suggested they are OLD. I played this on my laptop and it played as well as the day it was made.
Could it be your bandwidth that is perhaps the cause?

Photoshop Tutorial - for Beginners and Intermediate UsersOne of many methods you can use to clean up a hazy landscape image. I chose this method to show you because it is fairly simple, and I believe anyone with a minimum of photoshop experience will be able to follow along. As always, if you have any questions I am available here. http://microstockpix.com/tuts/haze/haze.htmlThe MIZ

In fact, because it is an isolated image, composition plays no part in this scenario. It is expected that a designer will take an isolated image and do one of two things:
1. Copy the image into another image. 2. increase or enlarge the canvas size (White Space) in order to place text, or another image in order to create a composite.
In other words, an isolated image is treated the same way an icon is. Its available for use over and over again with different images.

May I add a comment:
In your post you write "OK a few I can understand."
Thats NOT acceptable in my minds eye. When I submit my images, I only submit those that are by my standards 100%. When I submit I don't expect any to be rejected. Of course there are rejects anyway, but my point is I did not submit any images that when they do get rejected I can say "OK I understand why it got rejected".

If you get accepted (I hope) you will find StockXpert a very lucrative site. I am only there 1 1/2 months and my designers are just * my images off the site.
I wish I had uploaded to the 2 years ago when I first started.

Photoshop Tutorial - Intermediate and Advanced UsersNote: Please brace yourself to "Have Fun" before proceeding Here's a nifty way to make a presentation image from any image in your portfolio. Use only one image, and turn it into a business card, web banner or any other professional presentation you like. With lots of options: using text, the move tool, clipping group, and layer mask, you can configure your image anyway you like. (Also use the opacity slider -- I didn't mention that) It's all about having FUN! http://microstockpix.com/tuts/squares/squares.htmlThe MIZ

I just want to inform all the readers of this forum, that my therapist has been contacted on this issue. She says "I have nothing to worry about, and that I should just ignore that mean person. (so there you mean person) I of course am quite upset because my therapist plays to the tune of $150.00 an hour. There goes all the money I made on StockXpert last month. Of course I having my moments of deep depression brought about that evil doer "Mr AAC6D63" I hate you!.....yes yes yes... You are lucky Mr AAC6D63 that I don't commit an act of self destruction like eating too much chocolate, or causing me to kick my dog. I demand a letter of apology from you at once. Otherwise I shall be compelled to take further drastic action like forcibly making you smell my underwear. For those who dont have any idea what I'm talking about I invite you to view my underwear Click hear to view my underwear tutorial http://www.microstockpix.com/laundry/index.html

I am highly insulted! How dare you call me a spammer! How is it you are allowed to throw out derogatory words at people based on just "What you think"
It's not too often this happens, but I take exception to your slanderous remarks. It's quite obvious to me that your false and malicious statements are meant to ridicule me, and attempt to damage my reputation here on this forum, and on the stock sites that I submit my work to.
You are someone who deliberately stirs up trouble, as I have witnessed from your post in the past. I insist you cease your loudmouth slander of me at once.

Photoshop Tutorial - for Beginners and Intermediate UsersThis is the second part of the tutorial on creating explosions. I urge you to experiment. I went very fast through this tutorial. I've actually tried to make an object coming through broken glass in the past and gave up... I could still use it if you ever do a tutorial on this subject, please make sure you put a link to it!
I actually never tried that before but I did do something similiar today. I really dont have it perfected yet but here's a sneak preview. I suppose if I tried I could substitute the bullseye for a glass sheet If I do this tutorial you'll get a better handle on how to approach this challenge. The MIZ

As some of you know, I post tutorials here in this forum occasionally. When I do, I usually pick tutorials the would generally serve all of us "Stockies". Of course the idea is usually to introduce new comers some new ideas. Well I recently developed a new technique that is rather simple, but I'm not sure if it would serve your portfolios well. The technique is rather along the concept type imagery. (Rather selective) Its quite dynamic and unusual which is why I'm not sure anyone would be interested. Below I have posted three images of a whole series I am presently working on. If you think you could use this tutorial, please indicate so here. If it appears people on this forum can use it I will make one. http://www.microstockpix.com/pages/explode%20card.htmhttp://www.microstockpix.com/pages/explode.htmhttp://www.microstockpix.com/pages/explode%20earth.htmLet me know, The MIZ

I understand sharply_done, that there are those types of images. However my question is to Waldo4 whom I think may be perhaps a bit confused about what "Stock" is, and what it is not.... actually (not you for sure).

I'm baffled by the word you use so often "Clip Art". I have had it in my mind that clip art was a collection of icons, buttons, cartoons, and small graphic pictures.
I hardly think that dominates the stock community. Perhaps you will elaborate on why you think stock is all presented as clip art.

I offer you a look at my portfollio on DT. Use it as an example of the niche I have found. I do strictly concept images. Half photo's half digital art. I concentrate on business, and marketing, as well as the internet as a whole. Peruse it if you wish and gather some ideas from me to get you jump started. http://www.dreamstime.com/rjmiz_portfolio_pg1The MIZ
