Looks like a sale cancellation rather than a 'return'. While it could be a solitary refund for 30 cents, just as likely a reversal/chargeback for several hundred cents, or more.

I prefer Numbeo when looking for a rough idea of prices in various countries. Usually filled in by expats/immigrants, so prices can be a bit off compared to that of a local, but usually seems to be about right... you can compare different cities within the countries as well.

My advice: don't delete, because you never know... Algorithms change and events can trigger a demand in certain kind of images.

Exactly. You could be there at the end of 2019 thinking to yourself... "why did I create all this content relating to Coronaviruses?! Seemed like a good idea ta the time, but nobody seems to be buying them... I'll just delete them all. It's for the best".

...but it was too expensive. He was asking $5,000 which was more than it made in three years.

Advice to a Microstock author buying content: "Three years earnings is too much!"
Advice to a Microstock author selling content: "Doesn't matter if you only make 35 cents a download, and get ten sales a year... don't sell them for any less than $10,000 per item!"

Not quoting you... just the general vibe here when it comes to selling the rights!  :D

Intelligence I think you'll find! But yeah, just as low as your Kool Aid comment, but you decided to forgo the wit. Still, you deserved it... providing $0.01 being 50% of $0.02 as some kind of evidence that Elements don't pay out 50%?! Surely you weren't being serious?

If you want to discuss the ups and downs of such a low rate per download, then that's fine... but don't use something that works out to 50% as evidence that its not 50%.

$0.01 revenue per image is 50% of $0.02
Now you're getting it! Percentages can be a bit daunting at first, but looks like you're nailing it now... good job.

Yes, they want high quality content and they pay between around 35% (non-exclusive) and 50 to 70% (exclusive) on the Marketplaces, and 50% (non-exclusive) on Elements. Crazy cats.

Yes, they're royalty free, but no editorial content. Something to note: while it's royalty free, it's also single use... so buyer's can't buy a license for an image or video and use it in multiple end products. If they have multiple projects then they need multiple licenses.

Envato / Re: Envato reaches US$1 billion in community earnings
« on: November 17, 2020, 10:19 »
Well to be fair, if they did shaft contributors, it was when they first introduced the bonus scheme... when a contributor making $5000 on Elements, would get the same bonus as one making $50. So they changed the bonus scheme to better reflect performance. Sure, a lot of low-performing contributors experienced quite the drop, average contributors stayed about the same, and high-performing contributors got a bit of a boost. Sucks if you make less, but it's definitely fairer.

435
While moving up a level might not have a massive impact on your earnings (although it will to some extant... that is how the levels work after all!) if you're getting over 25,000 downloads in a year, then I can pretty much guarantee that it will make a difference in your earnings if you're planning to close your account!

From a legal standpoint, there is nothing wrong with taking two public domain images, compositing them and selling the resulting image.

Whether a stock site will allow you to sell them is another matter. And whether those images you get from those sites are actually public domain, is another matter as well.

Like Adobe for example... Cathy's post above says they don't generally accept public domain content.

437
Are you sure? But in microstock  is not allowed.  I don't know much about that. Well, many people has told that, for example composites.

A composite from two public domain images is very different from a composite made from two images that are not in the public domain. Same as Jingle Bells or Silent Night... you don't own the copyright to the music, but if you record your own rendition of the song, then you own the copyright to that track/recording. Which you can then sell. And just in case Lizard wants to chip in... yes, a website might not allow you to sell it, or they might want you to make it clear who the original authors were, or that you only own the copyright to the recording not the song... but that's a condition of the site in question, not of copyright law and the like.

438
Also if one is selling that on products like prints etc, he will be most probably obligated by user agreement on most of those platform to use "public domain" in tags or even in the description.

On most POD sites it says to tag CC license images as "public domain" not as creative commons or something else.

You're getting mixed up with user agreements on varying websites, and copyright with regards to public domain images. Sean is right in that if a public domain image requires attribution, then it's not public domain. You're probably right that certain sites require you to mention if an image is public domain. But those two things are unrelated, so you being right doesn't mean that Sean is wrong.

Pond5 insist that I set a price, add keywords and specify the software used to create my content, but it's not like that's some global obligation under copyright law, required for any content I post anywhere on the web.

Adobe Stock / Re: 2020 Contributor bonus program
« on: November 13, 2020, 05:34 »
Unfortunately I won't make the video download threshold for the whole package so I'll have to make some sort of adjustment.

I think there's very few who will! I won't, but I've made the threshold for the single program one, so I guess that'll be a present for someone as I need the full package.

Are the apartment blocks the main focus of the shot? If so, that'll probably be why. Maybe the ones that have been accepted have several buildings in the shot but none of them feature predominantly?

442
Thanks!

No, still going. They shut down the individual content marketplace and have reverted back to just doing the unlimited subscription side of things now... marketplace authors had the option of moving their content over to the subscription side.

I make less at Adobe... about $70 a month this year and $120 a month last year. It's mainly all animation stuff, so it takes a while to make and render, which is why I haven't got a massive portfolio, but the sales seem to be higher than live action content. On average anyway.

413 when I posted that. 339 this time last year.

Mac Mini
3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz)
RAM 16 GB (Even 32)
SSD 1 TB
$1700 (1900 with RAM 32 GB)

Monitor BenQ 2700 SW
$ 600 (Max)

+ Some external HDDs For Archive

It will cost you less that the iMac for very similar result
(Frankly a 4K monitor is not really necessary, it can even be counter
productive)

Decent specs for the processor/drives/ram, but the Mac Mini comes with a pretty basic graphics card. Might be ok for graphics programs, but I wouldn't recommend it for After Effects, Premiere or Resolve.

Your PC option looks good. Similar to my setup but I have the GTX 1070 and it's only 6 cores. If you're using Adobe products then in most cases you'll be better of with an NVIDIA card as well. Definitely agree on getting two SSD's at 1TB each. I'd hold out for the RTX 3070 as well... same price with better performance. Does seem quite expensive at $2,800 though (possibly the 10 core i9 is responsible for that!)... might be worth shopping around.

Am I thinking of another marketplace or is ThemeForest a different thing tham Elements?

Yeah, you're right about support on Themeforest. Themeforest is the Envato marketplace for Wordpress themes and the like, with individual paid downloads... whereas Envato Elements is the unlimited download subscription side of things.

On Themeforest, you get any updates the author makes to the content for free, for 'life', and support is included free for 6 months. When the support runs out, you can subscribe for another six months for an additional fee. On Elements, you get access to the latest version of the item, but you need to be subscribed to download any newer versions that may be released, and there's no support included.

As for constantly updating and providing support on Themeforest... yes, but that (aside from some variance here and there) directly corresponds to the number of sales you get and how fool-proof you make your item and your included documentation. So you have the top sellers who can be making up to $250K a month who have to hire a team of support staff, or you can have authors who make 1% of that who might have to answer just a handful of emails a week. And in theory, the quality of your support, updates and documentation should correlate to how many sales you get.

No support included for items on Elements, just so you know.

VideoBlocks / Re: Hacking in progress?
« on: October 10, 2020, 06:16 »
They sent this out the other day. The first time I tried to log in to the account after they completed the work, I was asked to enter the verification code they sent me. It worked and I've not had to use it since. No idea why you keep getting them, but if you were hacked then it sounds like maybe somebody did have access to your account and now they can't get in any more without the code. Hopefully support will get back to you soon...
