The Nikon D90 video is terrible

The 5D video is apparently phenomenal according to vincent laforet.

wait for reviews

Henrys and Aden in Canada have it for preorder.  Aden is giving away an 8GB card too for free.  It looks like a good deal there.

Sweet. might preorder too, not sure.

Might not be any new ones left in January 2009

No one is going to let that camera get through Christmas 2008 in stock

I love watching the stern defence of hopelessness.

I give you credit for wasting your time in vain (and just plain greed) for an extra two dollars.  If you change the amount of time spent on uploading to producing and uploading better pictures to established sites, you would see substantial income growth.

It just amazes me how impatient some people can be.  I'm sure it took some of the bigger names in stock photography time to get their site off the ground.  If you took the time to upload your work, why not just let them stay there for a year and see how things go?  That's what I plan on doing.

It doesn't matter if it took the bigger names longer, they were the first and people had no choice.  The barriers to entry are significantly higher and customers will not switch to these random start up sites.  If you stick to the big 5 or 6, stop increasing the sprawl of microstock companies and allow the bigger, more established ones to do their thing, we will all be better off because the 'new entry' competition is bad for the industry.  Why?  Because all these companies do is come in and undercut other sites

I have wasted a bit of time with duds. Like Crestock, MostPhotos, PhotoShelter, CanStockPhoto.

I have a good feeling about Yay. Maybe it is that I just want to sell editorial stuff.

Like Jan says. Might as well leave them there for a while.

Everyone keeps having 'good feeling' but everyone keeps getting disappointed.  What makes anyone think that a new startup can grab customers that a well established, working, and systematic site can't?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 5d mark II / 7D
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:16 »
I'm really hoping that there is another camera (7D perhaps?) because the fps is too low.  I really couldn't care less about movie mode because if I wanted a video camera, I would buy one.

I'm also interested in seeing what the autofocus is like.  I'm in the market for a new camera and I'm torn between a 1D MK3 and the new 5D.  I would love the new 5D but I'm not sure if the 3.9 fps will be able to kick it for sports shots.

However I would really want the full frame.  Wow, unless they come out with a new camera, I don't know what to choose.

I don't know why people submit to sites destined to fail when all they promise is a nice homepage :)

Save your money with Canon and go with Nikon

Can you back that up with some data ....

There isn't any.   Its the same stupid argument that one is better than the other, but in the end, both companies are good.  The real error component happens behind the camera.

No - I am not switching from Canon to Nikon, it makes no sense - they essentially put together the same cameras.  And why would I when Canon's tele's are much better?

Very nice work.  Looks like its a 5D body all the way, but really as long as its not as hideous as the A900 from Sony, all I care about is the insides :)

21-25 MP, no noise to ummm, ISO 52000  ( ???) and 6.5 fps with pro-level autofocus that locks when you do sports and wildlife...is that too much to ask?  I'm waiting so quietly and patiently but I fear that everyone else is too and I won't be able to get my hands on it before Christmas

This argument is getting old an pathetic.  If you don't like it, leave.  Just go away.  If you don't want to leave, don't talk about it because you aren't going to change the way it works on an independent forum with many talented photographers who know exactly what they are doing in this business and making good money from it.

In the end, you are claiming that Getty Images (a half-billion dollar market-cap organization at one point - could be more, not sure) doesn't know what they are doing with iStockphoto - a company that is projected to have 250 million in revenue by 2012?

Thats quite the bold statement.

TMOS is in the works, supposed to be able to produce 100MP images with full-frame style design.  However, I have no idea what it means for quality and such

New 50D--15.3 mp. Maybe an upgrade to the 5d will come soon too. It has actually been around for a long time compared to the 30d or 40d. It seems to take longer to shop for a camera than for them to produce new ones now a days.

obvious much?

What a waste of time (for everyone just waiting and waiting).  I just want Canon to make the freaking announcements and get it over with - the speculation has to stop because its just a huge waste of time

Off Topic / Re: Olympics
« on: August 23, 2008, 22:40 »
From what I'm reading and seeing, I think these Olympics have been some of the most tarnished.

From stupid fireworks that didn't actually happen to the ridiculous amount of talk about pollution to the consistently bad judging/refereeing

however its nice to see records fall despite the potential "engineering" the chinese did to have that happen in the pool (I've heard that the pool was built to be deeper and with more air bubbles to have swimmers go faster so that these games would be remembered for some sort of greatness)

And my favourite:  14 year old girls who are allowed to compete because the government forged their birth certificates

Way too many scandals - and I really hope the IOC learns their lesson that its not their job to be political and to give the games to places that can be responsible

Noise on the Rebel should be better or at least comparable.

XSi would be better unless you plan on abusing it.

That isn't really large enough to judge your success in working with it.

As I mentioned, it's pretty well known that iStock likes to give designers the raw material to work with.

Was accepted as SS, sells really well.

There's no posterization or anything like that.

And the other file that was accepted at IS has been downloaded a few times since i started this post...so I'd rather go with the 'market' than what some 19 yr old summer student reviewer thinks

Thanks for the kind words.  I've been looking to establish for myself sort of a style that I can apply that looks nice and has some type of dramatic element to it.  Even if it doesn't sell, I'm getting better and I might be able to apply it to other subjects and expand my horizons

Can't post 100% because I'm at work, but this is an example (and they have been accepted everywhere, including SS with grain added in photoshop):

iStockPhoto.com / Inconsistent
« on: August 11, 2008, 22:21 »
On a note of stupidity,

I'd really appreciate if iStock would go about their reviewing with some consistency.  They approved a photo I took and Photoshopped a lot to get a very grainy, grungy, gritty look a while back, so I went ahead and did a few more in that way.  Now its not good enough and they are 'over-processed' but if anything, they are less processed than the original file accepted.

That original file has 10 or 12 downloads since uploading it and is getting more popular - so the market is there.

I don't get it.  I don't think they do either, for other reasons.

STOP WASTING YOUR TIME PEOPLE!

I say this every time someone posts this nonsense.  You are doing nothing to further yourself financially because these new sites aren't going to make it.  If Lucky Oliver didn't make it, these sites won't either.

Give it up, go macro if you want another source of income

I agree that microsprouts are there exclusively for oafs.

which macro sites would you recommend ?

I can't say that I can recommend any, mainly because I'm just trying out Alamy now and hopefully working my way to something bigger soon.

I hope that doesn't sound too vague, but I've given up on "new" sites and I'm diversifying by different business model, not by companies within the same model
