You are wasting too much energy into trying to figure things out. Stop trying.

Instead, direct your energy into being creative. Find a niche in MS you are good at.
Splatter the industry with your work. Forge ahead, and stop looking over your shoulder behind you.

This is a simple game for complicated people. So keep it simple.

Just out of curiosity the first question that comes to mind is:
How does one go about obtaining information about the reviewer who just rejected my images?

I can hardly expect with my experience to be able to perform such accurate detective work.

I have always been an advocate of stepping up the requirements for a reviewer.
Some reviewers lack the experience, know how, and the maturity required to perform those duties.

After all is said and done, I rest easy knowing that my images are in the loving hands of a mother of 3 children,
who is a stay at home mom, and earns extra money as a side line reviewer.

It might be of some curiosity for those who care that LO pays a premium to those reviewers who "Reject" rather than approve an image.

If you attempt to try and figure out how this business works.....and in the end you eventually do....
Please write a book about it and I will be first in line to buy a copy.

So many people here on this forum, and in others, have attempted to make rhyme and reason out of so many scenarios it makes my head spin!

Only upload in small batches
Never upload on a Friday
If you sell well on site "X" then you will sell well om site "Y"

I mean there are so many theory's and yet no one has mentioned what the "Winners"  who make it big do.
Do you think for one moment that the people who make 5 figures in this business follow the trends, or  theory's ?

I can just imagine them laughing at us; the small fry in the pond trying to swim the across a sea.
Trust me...if you put effort into becoming a good photographer, work hard, develop your talents, and stay healthy
it will go further to improve your submissions, earnings, and downloads than listening to these silly ideas.

I just had to say that. Forgive me if I offended anyone.

Photoshop Tutorial - for Beginners and Intermediate Users

Still another alternative method I use to sharpen my images.
The main advantage of this method is it produces absolutely NO COLOR noise!
A blessing for those of you who find your always running to your Neat Image plug in
or other noise limiting filter.

Give it a try. (Some audio quirks in this tutorial) sorry

An alternative method to the Unsharp filter.
This method has some advantages and there are 3 different blend modes you can use.

I still have one other method I will show you maybe tomorrow.

I'm glad that this method works for you and your images.

Just so you are aware "Bicubic Smoother is a new interpolation method specifically designed for upsampling. As its name suggests, it gives a smoother result that handles subsequent sharpening better than Bicubic sampling."

I will include this link http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=433340&seqNum=5
so that everyone can benefit from what the experts have to say on the subject of resampling.

sharply_done,

I think you may have mis-spoke when you referred to using bicubic smoother. That is the method used when uprezzing. (up sizing an image)
To down size an image, it is generally the bicubic SHARPER that we use. I know that you just got them reversed, and meant it
the other way around.

I just thought I would jump in before anyone newbie actually used the smoother to downsize.

Sorry for the interjection,

General Stock Discussion / Re: Uploading Strategies
« on: March 01, 2008, 00:26 »
I have found out I do much better with approvals and selling if:

I have spent countless hours developing this technique

1. I only upload on days of the week that end in "Y".
2. Only upload if the images are on my computer.
3. Only upload images I have created within the last 20 years.
4. Only if I am a registered user of the stock site I'm uploading to.
5. Only upload images I have created.

If I follow theses 5 rules, I find that I have more than a 90% chance
Of making money, while having the images approved also.

Adobe Stock / Re: I have had a 500% increase in earnings
« on: February 25, 2008, 05:20 »
- you've got two years worth of images that are not keyworded properly and somehow you've got to address that problem or they will continue to be lost in FT's system and earn a derisory income.

No I don't have to find a way. Quite honestly, I don't believe there is a way.
I'm satisfied in knowing what I can "DO NOW" At least every image from now on will be ok. Thats all that counts really.

You are wrong.... I live one day at a time. I piss on the past because it is of no use to me now. I can't change it.
What I can do is live for today, and plan for the future. It's not viewed as a loss to me. The glass is half full if
you get my drift.

Adobe Stock / I have had a 500% increase in earnings
« on: February 22, 2008, 15:57 »
I have had a 500% increase in earnings since I have prioritized my key words on FT.
I recently uploaded over 200 new images to FT. The only thing I changed was I prioritized
all the keywords for each of the 200 plus images i uploaded.

In the past, all keywords were listed in Alpha order. I used to make about $35 - $40 every 2 months.
I started the policy of prioritizing the words in Jan of this year. It is now Feb and my earnings are $73
for this month alone (at the time of this post)

Now this is just an observation. It's not a scientific experiment. Too many other variables could be affecting
the amount of downloads: Better images, more designers DL'ing, more precise  key wording... etc

All in all, its a pain in the ass to list the keywords in any order other than random. However it may have paid
off in the long run for me.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Potential Conflict of interests
« on: February 18, 2008, 04:17 »
I would like to make a comment about reviewers:

When I first got into this game, I thought they were Gods chosen specifically
by Ansel Adams and the like. I would would have bowed, and fallen to my knees
in humility if one had directly addressed me in during a rejection.
After all, it was the "Reviewer Gods" that determined if any of my images lived
or died in the world of stock. They had the "POWER".

I imagined that the reviewer who rejected my images, and told me things like
"Not stock worthy", "noise", focus, and other terms I have come to know,
were learned by the reviewer in his years of experience, knowledge, and schooling
he received during the course of his career as a professional.
Who was I to question a God anyway?

Can you imagine my horror one day while browsing thru the SS forums, I discovered
one of the Gods at SS said they were looking for more Gods to review images.
.....And that if you had 250 images in your portfolio (or gallery) You too could become a God!
WHAT! No way is that possible!

I have been doing stock now for 3 years, and most of the Gods, have turned into stay at home wifes
with 5 kids running around the house, or some grocery store stock clerk. Thats when I cried out in protest
and was eventually kicked off of SS for opening my big mouth once too often.

So now I just bide my time and have learned how to incorporate the the word "Acceptance" in my daily life.
I still get rejections, but I live a much happier life now, and I have not been kicked off of anymore stock sites since.

The best to all,
The MIZ

General Stock Discussion / Re: Genuine Fractals 5
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:32 »
I would like to make a comment about Genuine Fractals.

I have done several test comparing photoshop "Bicubic Smoother" (best for up sizing)
with genuine fractals ver 5.

My conclusion: There is no notable difference.

Another method I used to compare was using PS to up size the image in 10% increments,
until the desired upsize was attained. A method I learned way back in photoshop ver 3.

My conclusion: There is no notable difference.

In my tests I used various sized images to up size, from 400 pixels wide to 2000 pixels wide.
The final resulting images ranged from 1500 pixels wide to 9000.

I noted some haloing, and loss of sharpness in all images. After all you are creating a Frankenstein image.
All jpg's degrade with any editing what so ever. Artifacts, noise, and other malady's occur with any "up rezed" image.
"Up-Rezed" is the term used to "up" the "resolution" to any image.

Best regards,
The MIZ

Photoshop Tutorial - Intermediate Users

This tutorial may not apply to stock images, but the technique can be applied to any image.
Although this tutorial is targeted for fine art photography (my real passion) you can
"take what you need" and leave the rest.

It's not difficult to spot...you know that great image, it has everythinng
going for it it; Good composition and framing, mood, subject etc, etc....BUT
...but it's missing that certain something, you just can put your finger on.

Well if it's lighting, then maybe I can help with a little "Photoshoptic Surgery"
we'll transform that dull lifeless image and make it "more gooder" than ever.

This is a rather complicated procedure.  I hope I don't loose anyone along the way.
Try it. Especially if you shoot landscapes like I do.

The best to you,
The MIZ

I admit that I don't score very well with the reviewers there on Istock.   Frustrating for me
as I am so used to DT, FT, StockXpert and BS accepting them nearly 100% of the time. I am sorta
in my own league. I am NOT by any means a good photographer. My  Landscapes sell in private
galleries though and I have won several awards.

My stock photography sucks though as I lack the experience, knowledge and the know how to be of any mention.
SO, I rely on my photoshop skills to get me by in the stock imaging game. My use of the camera seems to be
limited to shooting "props" to take into photoshop, and work them from there.

So a fine art photographer I am .....stock I am a nothing. I have manage to slip a few photoshoped images by into IStock this week

and this one

Don't ask how I did it, cause if I knew I would have alot more than I do in my measly little portfolio there.
But Susan to shed some light on the way some stock sites view these type of images?.... I would have to say
ALL including Alamy accept my images.... Istock is the only dark horse in my stable of sites I submit to.

Best Regards,
The MIZ
