...speaking of... I just got hit with two more StockXpert 'property release' rejections. Both public structures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
I mailed support... we'll sell how it goes. =tom
well so much for my first experience getting it settled in less than 24 hours... Still no reply to this mail and they both still show rejected in my 'folio. we'll see.... =tom

What's New? I was going to start a thread on this, decided to check and make sure there wasn't one already.... and found this. I was out surfing just trying to see if any of my purchased stuff turned up anywhere (sometimes it does). And, this Polyvore thing showed up. Low and behold, my pix being used in these collage things of which I could not detemine the purpose. I read the site and still have no clue what the heck the thing is all about.... other than... the pictures are 'cool'. and 'favs'.... My pix were lifted from LO. I mailed LO support just a few minutes ago... see if they knew anything about it.. I, by name, and Lucky Oliver are given photo credit next to my image which does have the LO annoying watermark and the LO name imbedded in the image. The image is not fullsized and blurry. Clicking on the original does link back to my LO portfolio... I assume from what I just read above... nobody has gotten any sufficient answer on what it is and what it's all about. Here's the page that popped up during my surfing... http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=816921I don't see that any profit is being made off the watermarked images. I right-clicked on my original image on Polyvore, downloaded it.. and it is virtually useless. Large but blurry as heck. I don't know that I am all that upset, as I can't see that anyone is profiting from it... but.... would be nice to know what's going on. I get the impression it's more kids than adults on this site... Anyone know anything further beyond what ws discussed above?? =tom

Mitch
Mitch... Your points well taken. I make all attempts to be a peaceable person. My experiences as a young man in the 1968 era American military and all that entailed, left me a person that has had quite his fill of anything but peace. I hereby take back my remarks to you. Apologize to you and any that have read my comments and were offended. I will remove my comments from this thread for the sake of maintaining peace and normalcy. I have no desire to be unwanted by the members of MSG. On the point of LO.... I am a contributor and I continue to upload there. I have no cross to bear with Bryan or LO. I am not an LO basher. It is my hope that my work will eventually sell there as it does elsewhere. Peace, tom

That's great, but if you're uploading 10 or more images a day to 10 or more sites and you have to individually challenge rejections from untrained reviewers, the tipping point of time vs return would come pretty quickly.
True enough!

Btw, I haven't found any way to contest/complain/explain/ask about a rejection reason on stock.xpert? Is there such an option?
Yes... I just had one. A log cabin in a state park. I emailed support, explained it wasn't a private residence but was a public building in a state park. I was answered in less than 24 hours and the image was approved. I have to say, I've only talked with support a few times at StockXpert, but I always got a quick response and so far, positive results. =tom

I believe the focus on the question is submission - FT is simpler (keyword sorting may be a problem to some, though), but acceptance ratios seem to vary given the statements here.
Other aspects such as earnings, search tool flaws and site functionalities are not (if I understand the poll correctly) in judgement here.

sorry.... suppose I should read the entire thread before commenting. I've removed it.

Trust me...if you put effort into becoming a good photographer, work hard, develop your talents, and stay healthy it will go further to improve your submissions, earnings, and downloads than listening to these silly ideas.
I just had to say that. Forgive me if I offended anyone. The MIZ
MIZ.... you're dead on, 100% KO-Rect!! And to try to figure this business IS like trying to chase the wind and put it in your pocket...... I have come to that final conclusion... there IS NO rhyme or reason in the biz. Just pix that sell and pix that don't. And what one site says sux, the next one sells like crazy. No sense to it. Do the best you can, put the pic on the block and see if it sells. If not.... they're like nachos... you go out and get more. =tom

Heck... I'm still having a hard time understanding exactly how much I am making there.. I can't figure it out... too many drugs in the 60's, I guess... I need some personal tutoring in reading my download/sales figures there. btw, since I started that fav thing at 123.. my sales have picked up... strange.... =tom

Furthermore, concerning yourself with getting images accepted is pointless - the only thing that matters is producing images that sell.
Good Point!!! In fact, THE point when we're talking about microstock. I've got hard drives full of 'artsy' stuff that I wouldn't even think about wasting my time to upload on an MS site. They'd never fly by a semi-blind reviewer. It just isn't 'stock' material. The very reason that I am not going to retire on my MS sales is that I do not produce enough images geared to the mass buyers of MS photography. I'm essentially a nature/landscape/travel photog. That is not the major buying market, although, I'm doing well enough to keep me happy and in new toys and gadgets! If you want to be a top MS photog, you need to do exactly as our good friend sharply_done suggests. Produce stuff that will sell, not stuff you like. =tom

I'm surprised that you feel SS reject images for bogus reasons, in my experience their reason for rejecting an image is usually valid. If SS reject an image for artifacts, noise, focus or uneven lighting/poor white balance then this is the genuine reason.
PecoFoto -- I gotta say this first.... it is rare, rare, rare that I disagree with folks here.... but my friend.... I have to here. Also, let me say this... I'm in what may turn out to be my BME at SS. I like SS and it is my highest volume seller and my #2 money maker (behind IS) In spite of all that, I very often feel that my SS rejections are wrong. Especially ones on 'focus where we think it ought to be' and often, noise. Many of those rejected are currently selling on IS..... or at DT and BigStock. I think sometimes the reviewers at SS may be a bit too zealous or haven't really looked at the image. All that being said.... oh well..... It's their site and if that's the way they feel, so be it. I don't agree with all their rejections. None-the-less, I still like 'em and I continue to 'feed the beast'. =tom

One of the two most popular is mine and BTW I do not click on that image all the night long, I have better things to do. I totally forgot about that site until this thread. I was also one of the first, but uploaded only two images. No sales so far.
Great pic!!!! IT deserves to be the top one.... now that I know it's you. I never looked to see who's it was..... i should have put 2 and 2 together as your penguin pix are the top on every site! I will confess to you.... I have clicked on your picture several times over the months. I get too passionate about stuff and that was something that ticked me.... As I said above... It IS a picture that is truly in line with the theme of the site. It deserves to be the top pic... I just went to check if you used your freezingpictures tag there and noticed.... since yesterday the fireworks passed you again.. for that matter, maybe there's a bunch of people like me that think fireworks should be first.... at any rate, you should know I have great respect and admiration for your work ( I've said so in the past). and mine was not an outright accusation of you 'clicking all night'. If you took it that way, I apologize here publicly I would say then that there may be others out there that have done the same or feel the same..... as I do and have been pushing you back in first. As I said above, if Darrell did away with the category I wouldn't care less and I have 17 pix in the most popular... and I don't click on them all night either.. I believe it is only due to how long they've been around and that for a long time.... they were of the few there... Peace

I too was one of the first on... I liked the concept, still do. However, if Darrell reads this, I think he drifted away from that concept. Which was, or I thought it was, to have a site that dealt strictly with Nature & Life... I have to say I am a little disappointed to see that the site really, isn't any different that any other in that you can get a picture of just about anything there now. And I will admit that I am guilty of it too. In the beginning, I would only upload my nature, landscape shots. But soon, everything was showing up...... so, I started uploading whatever. I too have quite a few pix in the most popular, however, I don't put a lot of stock in that. I think it is simply because I was one of the first and that was all there was to look at... LOL .. I am not impressed by my pix being there.... at all. It means nothing. The most popular area is not realistic on NLS anyway. Anyone can go on and click on their picture all night long moving it up the ranks. There is a humorous 'race' going on there now between the first two pix. The numbers change daily as does the position of the two back and forth while the rest of the 4 pages doesn't change that much at all. These two pix are about 700 views ahead of #3. I suppose we are to accept that those 2 pix get that many views daily while the rest get relatively none... LOL LOL One is truly a 'nature' shot... the other, fireworks.... I find it hard to believe that buyers surf a site promoting nature pictures and then would spend so much time clicking on a fireworks picture... So much that it is the "Most Popular" picture on the entire site........ sorry, I don't think so. Darrell has been able to attract a few 'world class' nature photographers there and they have some fantastic work uploaded. hey, maybe I'm wrong... if so, I take it all back. =tom p.s. I haven't sold anything there yet. However, I am still uploading. Darrell hasn't had this creation going long enough that I'd expect to be making sales. He's going thru the same thing LO is (marketing, promoting, building the site and photo base ) and NLS is about a year behind in the flow of time.. so, I'm not realistically expecting sales for a while yet. One other point. He's shooting for $6 a pic..... however, in my case, the vast majority of my pix can be picked up on SS or one of 11 others for as little as a quarter... I don't know how that's going to work. Frankly, I hope he can pull it off. I've been with LO longer than this, and I'm still hanging in there... so, I'm willing to hang with Darrell for some time too. Okay, now all you folks that like fireworks pictures can rip me up... LOL .....................don't mean to offend anyone.

The only time I have seen posts edited here is when someone becomes abusive. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I agree! Being abusive with another member on MSG is totally contrary to what we all look for here. The friendliness and helpful attitude is what attracted me and many others to MSG in the first place. I do not belong to or even comment on any other forum. I hope that Leaf continues with his present moderating habits. =tom

Well I surely understand where all you folks are coming from..... Been there myself nearly from the start... member since August 2006 got 381 images got 36,718 views got only 56 downloads got $72.20 in the piggy bank (had one EL that accounts for over a third of that) I feel the same.... thinking my shots are just not the kind that LO buyers want.... 'cause I sure have no problem selling them everywhere else. Kind of depressing.. However.... in spite of all that, I'm not pulling out. In fact, I'm continuing to upload. The upload process is one of the easiest around.... I'm still hanging in there for awhile more. Something has to give. It just doesn't make sense that LO's customer base is so oddly different than IS, SS, DT, BigStock, and the other agencies that are selling my junk. Something has to give.. hopefully soon, I know they are new, but after a year and a half... I thought there'd be a little more.... I'm in for awhile more. I'll hang out for 2 years... Heck, I've got 71 tokens there. There's gotta be some use for them.... On the matter of comments. Yeah I did that... what I found was not an equal tit for tat. I put out a lot more than I got back. I still comment, but I do so only on pix that I REALLY do enjoy. To Bryan..... some of us are still hanging in there.........hoping it breaks loose..................... =tom

my sales suck there... i'll try this fav thing... if it works for me, it should work for everyone... I'll let you know how it goes.... =tom
just pulling back my comment.. I tried the fav thing. I don't know if it is just a big fat coincidence or what... but I started selling after I did it... I'm not going to be retiring on my 123 sales, but at least something's happening now!... got nothing to lose but a little time setting it up. give it a try if your sales are poor to zero there. =tom
