Just had a quick look at Foodpix (not Steve Allen's photo's) and all I can say is that from a quick perusal, clients must be nuts to pay those prices for the outdated and sometimes naff stuff that's on there. Micro's like SS and.......well everyone micro-else....seems to have more attractive and modern stuff than is on there.

Congrats Steve. Great port. Clean, high CV images. Not generally a fan of moggies but yours is gorgeous.

Thanks. I've not been there a year yet but never thought to look when I started. I just had some sort of (probably erroneous) impression that the SS search was good (many X better than FT anyway). Now it doesn't seem to be so good.....condensing words like 'transporter' to anything with 'transport' in the keywords makes it a pain to wrestle through the search.

The terms 'transporter' or 'carrier' are accurate but unfortunately SS's system automatically simplifies or groups certain words into common terms. In this case I think 'transporter' is being simplified to the more general term 'transport'. Adding additional search words such as truck, lorry or delivery should help to reduce the irrelevant results.
Is this a recent change (within the last year) or has it always been like that?

This legislation have not gone through yet and its hard opposition, especially from journalistic sides. At the moment they are trying to pass it but its highly doubtful it will go through.
Basically you cant take candid shots of people in public places, at their homes, gardens, etc without their written consent and so forth.
Personally I dont know what the big deal is?? you need a release anyway, dont you? Not really sure what they are trying to say.
I know this much. Sweden is sometimes run by a bunch of old women, desperately trying to be pioneers in just about everything and teaching other countries how to solve their problems, ofcourse forgetting their own backyard.
If you know for certain that the legislation hasn't yet been passed then part of the Dutch article is inaccurate because that asserts that "Swedish government sources confirmed today that the new law has been passed and will take effect from July 1st."
Dat bevestigde de Zweedse regering donderdag nadat het wetsvoorstel hiervoor door het parlement was bekrachtigd.
Well the exact swedish wording was " trying to pass this bill, trying to get it through" thats the wording. So I take it its obviously not passed yet and there is huge opposition, not the least from journalistic sides.
All the troubles seem to stem from that a 14 year old girl was candidly photographed and then ofcourse the parents got mad and created a heck oif a noise.
Thanks. That means that the Dutch language articles are inaccurate/misleading. "Nadat het wetsvoorstel hiervoor door het parlement was bekrachtigd".....means, "passed into law."

Maybe you could find a more reputable source than that?
Yep. I did try to find another source with more details because I realised after posting that this is an 'English' translation of an article in the NL sensationalist rag 'Telegraaf'. Because I read Dutch as if it were English and vice versa, I thought it was an article from the Daily Telegraph UK! Ha,ha (Liz)Sue! I read the article first on NL NOS News and went in search of an English version to post here! De Telegraaf is a bit of a rag but usually doesn't print wildly inaccurate stories. So maybe it is true! Does Chris Lagerek (sp) still come here? He should know?

http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?59570-Sweden-prohibits-taking-photo-s-or-video-privatelySweden prohibits from 1 July all photography or film in the private sphere, even if the images are taken on the street, in the garden or for example during birthday parties at home. There should be only such pictures taken when the people in the photo or video have given their prior consent. The Swedish government confirmed this Thursday after the bill was ratified by parliament. Would seem a little tricky to police. Say, I'm an architectural photographer standing on a street taking shots of buildings but using a very slow shutter speed to ensure that any passersby are blurred and unrecognisable. A passerby objects to you taking photo's that they may be on (doesn't accept your explanation of the technique) and calls the police who cart you off to jail!

'Car carrier' perhaps. Only 17 pages of them! I used to think that SS search was pretty good but seeing 1500 pages of 'car transporter' or 700 pages of 'auto transporter' containing so many images that are irrelevant, has cooled my enthusiasm.

Thanks Sue. I see that the reference on Wiki also gives both spellings whilst their language 'Maa' is only given with 'aa'.

Strange that Land Rover spell 'Maasai as 'Masai'.
Yep they should trademark the name....make some money.

Gotta luv Wall Street and what they do with stock prices.......AOL net $22 million on more than half a billion of revenues and the stock price triples in a year. Market cap nearly $3 billion giving a p/e of 135. And in the last 2 years they had an infinite p/e cuz they made losses.

A dead man walking doesnt have a billion to spend
Amazing how these moron corporates always buy up sites at the top (for top money) and then drive 'em into the ground. Great examples abound......Flickr....My Space and one from NL. TMG buys Hyves for 43 million when it has 8 million users (50% of the population). Within 2 years it was worthless and they're trying to rent out server capacity. Must just be an excuse for CEO's to leave with giant bonus packages which they negotiated beforehand. Who needs all the hassle of being a hero CEO when you can become a zero CEO (but very rich zero) within a couple of years!

Off topic but did anyone else notice this bit of the article: Flickr is getting three big updates. All users will get 1 terabyte of photo storage for free. The sites interface is also being redesigned to focus on full-resolution photos both in photo browsing and in search rather than words and links. Users will be able to share the full-resolution photos by email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr. Well, if that doesn't encourage theft, I don't know what will!

Interesting to note that MS contributors appear to have been trained by their distributors (not true in all cases but valid for many).
Where 'trained' = 'indoctrinated'.

Honestly, "offset" doesn't look like any images that "micro" artists, Y and myself included, would be able shoot. The mentions of Nat'l Geo and others, just by means of their access to unique venues, locations, people, etc., would set it apart. I wouldn't take it as an insult that I wasn't invited.
A list of the people involved with Offset: Maura McEvoy Glasshouse Images National Geographic Martin Bailey fStop Images Johnr Huber Images Leaving out the exclusive locations of NatGeo, many of the images in the galleries on these photographers/collectives/ existing stock agencies could have been shot (and often done better) by competent microstock photographers working on low overheads but wouldn't have been submitted to SS for fear of rejections on mixed lighting, focus not where we would like to see it, composition and general LCV! Interesting to note that MS contributors appear to have been trained by their distributors (not true in all cases but valid for many).

to me it sounds like a super fake.
Yuri's father ? hahaha ....
on that we agree, just that
Oh well - everybody always just seems to want to read their own words. If you dont know, why write? Dhoxax IS Yuris father.
Dhoxax has the same images in his port as Steen Wackerhausen does over on Stock Fresh (so they appear to be the same person). According to the wikipedia (I know, I know), Steen Wackerhausen is Yuri's father. I am sure someone better at Google reseach can dig more correlations out than me.
https://stockfresh.com/gallery/StonyArt http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-uVista.html
Of course, for all I know, "Wackerhausen" is as common of a name in Danish as "Smith" is in the states and its just a coincidence. But it seems legit on the surface.
And if you look back to the very early pictures in the Vista portfolio, you'll notice a number of buildings which belong to the University of Aarhus at which Yuri's father works. Proves little though especially if the images were planted there in 2005 in the event that they may be needed at some point in the future to convince doubters on MSG that it really is Yuri's dad! LOL.

As to Yuri, IMO he wants to move his business to the next level in terms of creation/creativity and he can't do that from micropayments.
it's a creative job, but nothing to do with ART.
he's on F1.4 primes, light walls, fake smiles, fake models, fake everything, perfect stuff for generic advertising, but nothing you couldn't find before in any RM agency honestly.
i'm not into that sort of stuff, i would puke at the idea, but he can easily sell 100x times more than me so i don't blame him and i respect him, to each his own, i'll be the own begging for money, not him.
and i think one of the very reasons for him to move upscale is that Getty allows a lot more creativity than micros. many photos that would be rejected at IS or SS could sell once for a lot of money on getty, 100s or 1000s of dollars.
at this point there's no other level he can push his business apart quantity. his direct competitors are now the other lifestyle agencies under getty, that's his new playfield.
i'm sure one day he'll regret having wasted time with micros, mark my words.
or maybe, considering his attitude, he'll pat himself on the shoulder and claim to having joined micro at the right time and left it at the right time.
well, i disgress, if he was good enough from the start he had to join getty from the start but it's not my business to judge his business.
as an RM guy i'm glad he came back home, so to speak.
Did I mention ART? Nope. Creation/creativity has myriad forms and not necessarily anything to do with 'art'. And as to whether Yuri will look on back on microstock with regret.....I doubt it cos GI doesn't do deals with nonentities. Need to get their attention first; level the negotiating playing field a little before a mutually beneficial discussion can be initiated and Yuri has certainly done that. You only negotiate with 'the suits' from a position of strength......no free lunch when they've already eaten you for breakfast.

Yuris father wrote on the SS forum saying he is leaving too. He mentioned yuri had 3-4000 dls a day
Can anyone trust that? SS forums have more attention seeking creep(ier) lunatics than crossdressers' board. : )
And there are some over there that regard over here in exactly the same way.......prefix 'crossdressers' with 'psychotic'. As to Yuri, IMO he wants to move his business to the next level in terms of creation/creativity and he can't do that from micropayments. He's still a young man who is driven, hardworking and creative both artistically/technically and businesswise. (Call it boilerplate stock if you will but Yuri was one of the first to produce technically 'perfect' quality RF stock and in my book that is creative). In any form of photostock, distribution is the big problem and GI is the biggest image distributor on the planet with tracking and enforcement to match. So, why not do a deal if the conditions are right and I'm sure they were. Big producers need big distributors and with one distributor you can define your sale price to ensure that you make the return sufficient to sustain and progress the business. OTH, I could be completely wrong and Yuri is setting up to retire at the age of 35 or pursue other interests.

I have around 200 images. But why is it different with other websites? That's what is killing me. From 30 dowloads on Fotolia more than half are singles but for 80 on SS all of them are subs?
It would appear very difficult to give some definitive answer as to why you get no ODD's at SS. I have less images than you, yet my totals for April (BME in dl's) were $96 for subs and $60 for ODD's. Some SS'ers seem to get megaSOD's and EL's with amazing regularity but I am always very pleasantly surprised on the rare occasions I get one of the biggies. My port has mucho food and no model released shots.

My sales are just average, nothing changed, but adding new stuff changes nothing for me. I around the same earnings for months now whilst adding about 70 images per month.
This is the problem I too have with SS. Despite frequent uploading, no new images seem to get regular sales (compared to the images I had accepted before November 2012). Everyone used to say that their new images at SS always got a few downloads in the first few days and the real stars-to-be just kept on selling until they made it to the first page of 'popular'. Nowadays, that just doesn't seem to happen. Files get buried and die with excessive speed and I wonder if there hasn't been a change in the 'new' search too? Without a decent crack of the whip in 'new', there's virtually no chance that even the 'stars' will make it further up the listing. Which brings me to the point of difference between the search in 'popular' or 'new'. If you search for something in 'popular', the chances are that almost every image on P1 conforms to the keyword used. Do the same in 'new' and there's huge numbers of pretty irrelevant 'dross' you have to get through to find something that conforms to the keyword you searched with. Take, for example, 'garlic'. In 'popular' you get mostly images of garlic and the keywords under the individual images are ordered in importance......garlic coming first. Go to 'new' and search for 'garlic' and you get a hotchpotch of every sort of food with 'garlic' in the keywords. Keywords in 'new' also seem to be in no particular order of importance but are alphabetically ordered (contrast with popular). IMO searching in 'new' is a nightmare for customers and a disaster for contributors now and I cannot imagine that it has always been like that. There is so much irrelevant material to wade through in 'new' that only the real diehard searcher will persevere to find the pearls. If anyone knows for certain that 'new' used to be different, I would be glad to hear it.

On my last upload I got 100% acceptation at Alamy (new agency for me)
You do realize that on Alamy it is either 100% approved or 100% failed? And they do not care at all what you upload as long as the image meets their technical requirements.
On FT I have a very high acceptance ratio, better than most other sites. Not that my images are particularly good, just that I seem to take things they like to accept. I have learned a little: never send FT flowers and never send them isolated fruit. It will get rejected. Despite the given rejection reasons I think on FT they look more at what the image is than other sites do and they reject things they do not want.
As Poncke has already said, if it is rejected either ignore it and take the sales from the other sites. Or learn what the site wants and adapt, your choice.
LOL. Got 2 out of 2 flowers accepted today at FT. I was shocked!
