such a shame. used to be a great site. Have no Idea what happened. I wrote last week asking them to lower there payout amount to 50 instead of a 100. They said no way. well Pretty soon it's gonna be should I waste time uploading anymore?? Gonna be NO WAY.

Sad. Im out also.

Good to have the opt out, but Rinder is right.  DT should lower their payout amount.  Their sales dropped so much that $100 is not reasonable anymore.

They do several times what BS does for me. Although I did stop uploading to BS a while ago in protest over SS giving out a much lower comission than on the main site and penalising people who already uploaded to BS with the bridge program.

How does SS  penalize people who upload to BS?

They don't.  Some top sellers get to have their images transferred to BS straight  from SS instead of uploading to BS.  Some people who didn't get into the program and have to upload directly to BS got mad.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS must really be a mess

First four days regularly reported here

I was making a joke because mine don't show until the 10th or later and sometimes run into the next month before all are reported. Some day IS will move into the 21st century and report same or next day, like the rest. Slow pay, low pay, money won't make us happy.

Agree, except IS will NEVER report same day.  They tried that and found it was too useful for contributors.   Kinda like getting paid when we reached $100 was to good for us.

Reminds me when kids go thru the faze that they ask WHY all the time to everything. So glad when my kids grew out of that! Drove us nuts.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How was your February sales?
« on: March 07, 2016, 15:13 »
Up 3% on January 2016, down 24% from February 2015.  Year on year downward trend accelerating.

Yeah, I  know, its because my port is crap, I haven't kept up with the times, don't have proper niche, am a doom and gloom complainer, etc.  I've read all the insults before.  Because there is NO way this could be an industry wide phenomenon.   ::)

Wish there was a way to put the OLD THREAD ALERT on the first page instead of the last. Would of saved me some time.

That said, I wonder how Daniel LaFlor is doing these days.  Betting he is losing money like the rest of us that used to do real well back then.

123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: March 05, 2016, 22:29 »
Hello,

I'm a vector illustrator, I have a portfolio of now around +1700 files, upload an average of 20/30 files a month, and I have an average on 123rf of more or less 300$/month.
Sometimes 500$, like in april 2015 (via some extra EL)
For the moment 123RF is pretty stable

Your doing very well then.  I make around the same with 6k images.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 500px beside microstock ?
« on: March 05, 2016, 00:12 »
Yes, you can share your photos and get comments and favs but there is also a marketplace which SELLS the files ...
You don't need a HUGE preview image if you are just looking to share some photos...

They are NOT previews! They are the images users upload to the community!

The marketplace is just an add on because 500px realized the sales potential of the community images. There is no way to upload to the marketplace directly/only.

So if the community is not for you, 500px is not for you. Simple as that.

Very helpful post.  I'm not interested in the community /photo sharing part.  Guess I will not bother with them.

Yea, but where are you guys going to go next time you need an essay written?

LOL,... i am still clueless of what happened??? i guess that is the blessing of being
a computer-dummy...
maybe i was not important enough to get spammed.
or just living in a region where essay service do not traget ;D

The whole site was inundated with literally hundreds of spam postings offering essays on every subject imaginable.   It probably was while you were asleep.  Theres no way you could have missed them if you had tried to access the site at the time.  Then our hero Leaf got it sorted out and alls back to normal now.

Anybody remember back when Corbis was thought to be the main agency keeping Getty from a near monopoly in the stock business?

spam blasted - sorry guys, I was sleeping :)

I'll see if I can figure out a way to stop it from happening in the future

You're entitled to some sleep without some idiot running amok on the forum.

Thanks for taking care of it  :)

I got a 1042 as well. No 1099.

Someone must have got the 2 mixed up and send wrong documents to everyone.

I also only got the 1042, tho I have lived in the US for years and they have my address.  I wrote support and they said I didn't fill out a w9 for 2015.  I guess I  didn't,  but I filled one out a couple years ago and it should still be on file.  All the other sites only make you fill it out once unless something changes.  SS, DT, FT, etc are still using ones I filled out a couple of years back.  Besides, once I told 123 about the problem, they should have sent the right form.  What good is a 1042 to me living in US?

This has effectively shut down the site.  I use the current topics page as my landing page.  I'm not going to bother going to each individual forum.  Anyway to block the OT forum?

Dashboard was there 2 minutes ago and now it is gone!  They would hate for anyone to screencapture what they are owed!

I did. I have a screenshot. They owe me $98.23. :\

You and me both.  I was so close to a payout.  Now I may not reach it.  Glad to learn they WILL be paying out all unpaid royalties.

I can't say I  am happy about this.  Less competition in the market is not good.  I know Veer hasn't been a good seller, but istock sales are in continous decline and haven't found their bottom.  I very much doubt the 50-70 bucks a month I made on veer will show up on istock or PP.  It's just a little bit less money I'll be making.   Death by a thousand cuts.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy- Any success??
« on: March 01, 2016, 02:46 »
I don't bother recreating expressions.  Can't see its hurt me.  And for the cut and paste,  their boxes will truncate what you paste to what will fit.  Once in awhile it cuts off half a word, so I just delete that one and put the rest in the second box.  A little secret, they don't punish you for reusing same words in more than one box.  I keyword in order of importance, then on the site I copy ALL the words, then paste in first box, delete half word that doesn't fit, then paste in second box.  Fill out the page with number of models, check if it's a photo or not (it always is), add releases, on to the next.  Plus you can do this in batches for a series.  Is it the easiest upload system?  Nope.  But it's not torture if you get a system down.

Delete. My comment was about images and I see this is about video.

Do you ever sell photos at Pond5?

I was on pixmac, and when p5 bought them, my portfolio sold thru p5 for over a year and did real good sales.  But they shut down pixmac months ago and never did transfer the images to p5, even though they offered the service and I signed up for it.

So unless I want to start from the beginning uploading over 6k images to p5, I am SOL.  I am not motivated when they could do it easily (my images were showing there before, why'd they take them off in the first place?) and I can't be bothered.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy- Any success??
« on: February 29, 2016, 15:53 »
It's simple.  Keyword in order of importance and then you dont have to hunt for the most important words.  Their right there at the top.  Cut and paste.  Done.

471

Why is it that the contributors that usually come here are complaining about how they aren't making any sales, but post a poll with sales over $50,000 and all of a sudden there are a bunch of contributors coming here to vote in the poll and who are close to being millionaires!

If you made 150k 3-4 years ago and now you are down to 50k and dropping, that would be something to complain about.  I think that or a similar scenario accounts for alot of the full timers or former full timers who are complaining.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy- Any success??
« on: February 26, 2016, 15:26 »
There is no such thing as success on Alamy.

Speak for yourself.   Some of us do pretty good on Alamy.

I agree there is no such thing as success on Alamy. I do OK with Alamy from 7000 photos, however Alamy is a perenial under performer compared to my other agencies including Getty. They just never really hit their straps in the marketplace.

Wrong my friend. There is. If you dont it will not count for everyone. There are many that make good money there. If you have micro photos there then you ask to loosw money. Alamy you have to thread unique. Then you will see rewards.

You have me qouted in the above mess and none of those comments were mine.  Here's my contribution to the conversation :

This month I've seen an uptick on Alamy.  It is coming back from the dead.  But still many low priced sales and none over $100.  3 or 4 years back you could get one or two big sales there and your month was made.   Now a dozen or so sales barely equal a payout.

473
Hopefully they will give up their plan to 1099 for money we never received (their commission).  Meanwhile I stopped uploading to Evanto - Photodune.

I thinknthey will have to give it up.  Any CPA would tell them this is illegal and will open a huge can of very nasty worms if they try it.  I would not be surprised if they get audited and penalized once the IRS discovers what they're doing.

474
I am sure there are. But if people were optimistic and the number of full timers was growing, you would see a steady rise in people signing up the way it was in the good old days.

ETA: number of viewers on active threads dont seem to be going up either. Maybe leaf could enlighten us, but wether registering or just reading here, it doesnt feel like lots of new people coming in.

The trend seems to be going the other way.  Lots of people that were members for years have dropped out of site.

475

You need to read what I actually wrote. I said pay us, the rest are just stealing from us. All of them are screwing us. But if somebody sends their photos to anyplace and then complains after about the deal and percentages, what does that say? You walked into a brick wall and now you blame the wall for being there?

You people here signed up and send your work to these places. Then spend all day after day, complaining about them.

Didn't you know what the pay was and the contract when you signed up? Don't you know what the pay is now and the contract? Why do people keep working for the low earners and crooks when there are 4 good agencies that pay back for our work?

You're kidding, right?  The pay and the contracts were way different when a lot of us signed with these agencies.  I don't complain about the (few) agencies that stick to the contracts that I signed up for.  The complaints come when the agencies change the TOS to screw the contributors and there is no negotiations, and your only choice is to pull your portfolio and lose all your efforts and income at once, or leave it and see your income drop from the greedy new policies that we DIDN'T  sign up for.

And BTW,  the 4 "good agencies" you mentioned are also among the biggest crooks.  Since they account for the most volume, most people put up with their carp, but don't kid yourself they're good guys or your friend.
