Software - General / Re: lightroom with portable drive
« on: February 14, 2012, 06:49 »
this is exactly what i did, but somehow the adjustment isn't there after I update it.

1. Right click on 'Folders' in Library section
2. Find 'Update folder Location'
3. Follow the dialog
4. Done

452
well, actually everyone start by 'copying', just to make sure to add and perfect it with own touch..

453
sometimes i will save the jpg accidentally as prophoto profiles, and the color will appear okay in adobe bridge or some browser, but it will appear dull in some preview jpg..

Software - General / lightroom with portable drive
« on: February 13, 2012, 22:09 »
Hi all,

I kept my files in a folder of a portable drive, and I imported to lightroom as F:/ drive, I found out the lightroom failed to recognize the folder one day and I have reimport the folder and found out that the adjustments i have done on the folder is lost.

I found out the problem could be I am using a USB modem that is recognized as F:/ now, and the portable drive with fold is recognized as H:/

I thought the lightroom adjustment setting is with the folder so I am surprise when I re-imported the folder, the adjustment is gone. Any thing I can do to prevent something similar to happen?

what i know most of the website system will generate the preview images with some contrast and sharpening to make the preview image look nice.

StockFresh / Re: StockFresh - Is the opportunity passing?
« on: February 08, 2012, 22:32 »
same thing happened to me, the application status was rejected long time ago, and I have emailed at least 2 times to check how I can re-apply it again, but nothing is heard.

A year ago I applied for acceptance - and 2 months went by heard nothing, emailed them - nothing - I watched their site but all they obviously wanted was microstock portfolios of high sellers from other agencies... so to be honest I thought why bother and withdrew and closed account.   They have alienated people by not fulfilling their promises so nope the graphics people and advertisers I work with I do not mention them in my reccomendations.  Sad really big start and no follow through.

General Stock Discussion / Re: picturemaxx at zoonar
« on: February 06, 2012, 11:25 »
thank you very much, i should have searched on zoonar.

This is what is on Zoonar's "Partner management" page:

Quote
APIS Network is Europes most successful picture marketing platform. APIS is an independent databank system, accessible to a closed circle of users. In order to search the APIS database you need an APIS browser. Most picture editors in German speaking countries use APIS to get a majority of their pictures. For the customer it is a big advantage to search across the photo stock of several APIS suppliers at the same time, always using the same search engine. If you decide to release your pictures for APIS your pictures will be found and sold via APIS in the future, if our photo editors clear your pictures for release.

When you release your pictures for the APIS network they are fed into APIS as well als i-picturemaxx and DFJV-Bildportal via the independent company Flashmedia Group. Further information below:
i-picturemaxx ist a piece of software that allows clients who are are not registered with APIS to buy APIS pictures. I-picturemaxx is a kind of successor to the APIS browser which is still used by most picture editors. The media search engine my-picturemaxx allows several thousand users of more than 500 magazine and newspaper publishers, companies and advertising agencies to search for photos fast and efficiently. Picturemaxx is an exclusive operator of the APIS network and of the independent international media network i-picturemaxx, which combines the portfolio of more than 250 picture agencies, media portals and archives.
Flashmedia Group operates the DFJV-Bildportal (Deutscher Journalistenfachverband German Journalists Association). Zoonar feeds all photos via the Flashmedia Group into the APIS system. A big advantage, because it means your photos will also be found and sold in the associated DFJV-Bildportal, which can result in more photo sales.

Terms of Service / Agreement:

1.    There are many weekly papers, regional newspapers, small publishing houses and magazines with a limited circulation that also search for pictures in the APIS network. These media will pay a much lesser fee than a large newspaper or magazine with a wide circulation. If you release your photos for distribution via the APIS network you have to reckon with a lower fee than you are used to at Zoonar. This applies especially for all photos in the premium category. But at the same time higher paid usages of up to several thousand euros are possible.

2.    All photos which you release for APIS must remain in the APIS network and DFJV-Bildportal for at least six months. Early deletions of pictures is not possible.

3.    All pictures activated for our distribution partner Picturemaxx, will also be distributed via our partner The Interview People. The Interview People pay Zoonar 60% of the commission so that you will get 36% of the picture commission when selling via this partner.

4.    Zoonar is not obliged to feed photos released by you into the APIS network or any other partner. Photos that are passed on to partners can be deleted by Zoonar at any time. There is no long-term guarantee that your pictures will remain online after acceptance of your pictures by our editors or after being passed on to the mentioned partners. A rejected picture cannot be submitted for release for the Apis network or DFJV-Bildportal again.

5.    Zoonar is not liable for consequential damage caused by software or any third party, the involved partners Picturemaxx and Flashmedia Group or their respective external contractors.

Whether your pictures are accepted or rejected depends heavily on proper keywording and captioning. Therefore it is of utmost importance that you check the keywords and captions of your photos before you release them for APIS or any other partner. A rejected picture cannot be submitted again! APIS does not allow cryptic captions like "DSC000.jpg" or "Kodak_Image009.jpg". So please use meaningful captions and picture titles. A title like "What youre looking at!" is not accteptable either. Please use a descriptive title, for example something like "Young woman makes a funny face". Keyword spamming (too many incorrect and unfounded keywords) is not allowed either.
You can release your pictures now for sale in the APIS system and DFJV-Bildportal using the Zoonar picture management. Your Zoonar account will be credited with your commission after we have received the fee. Zoonar bills the APIS users directly, therefore no third party participates. But Zoonar pays a user fee to the partner agency.
Zoonar will check all released pictures before they are passed on. We ask for your understanding that we can pass on only those pictures which meet our partners requirements in picture quality. These requirements may differ from those at Zoonar. After a few days you will see in your Zoonar picture management which of your photos were accepted and rejected.
You may request a deletion of a picture from the APIS network and the DFJV-Bildportal at any time using the Zoonar picture management. The picture will remain online for another six months. Should you wish for a deletion of your Zoonar account we will archive your data until final deletion for another six months so that we are able to credit your account with any possible commision received during that period.
Photos with English keywords only will get their keywords (no other IPTC fields) translated by an auto translator tool before they are fed into the APIS network. Translation errors may occur, we try to correct those errors but we cannot guarantee for it.

how are you doing in macro stock? are you selling RM? if you are earning something from there, try harder to get more different kind of images to get more sales..

your style make me think you are better fit in macro in order to sell your images for better returns. Sometimes a visually good images may only earn a few bucks in microstock..

General Stock Discussion / photograph printings for gallery sale
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:47 »
Hi all,

anyone has experience of professional printing for photos? someone had suggested me to print some of my photos and try out in gallery.

It is just a rough idea but i think it won't be bad just to try out or even just hang it on my own wall.

What kind of printing will it be involved? it is usually best on canvas? I notice some photographs printings hanging in Starbucks cafe, the surface is with textures, and wrap over a board, is that canvas printing?

I have no idea why it is printed on canvas, instead of printing on photo paper and frame it? it is canvas are more lasting?

thank you.

actually what I mean is the ftp procedures, like one has to sent a separate email. Possible just to release them without additional email to inform about the price?

one thing i would like is after ftp i can see them in my portfolio and batch edit on the price myself..

i find it is kind of troublesome to send another email after ftp..

Veer / Re: keywords issues in veer
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:30 »
Hi THP, but will your images come out under the search of kangaroo?

I had tried to search with the related keyword, my image doesn't appear in the results.

hey mtkang I had similar issues a while ago that I asked their support team about.  For instance, I had images of a kangaroo which ended up without the keyword kangaroo! The response was though, that their system will still have that keyword behind the scenes, but displayed will be a more specific keyword in that category if your IPTC data included one. EG: also in my list of IPTC keywords was the word 'joey' - so joey got displayed on the site as it was more specific than kangaroo, however kangaroo still remains (unseen) as a searchable term.

Hope that helps :)

Veer / keywords issues in veer
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:36 »
Hi All,

I think keywords issue in veer had been raised before.. I wonder what one should do..

It seems the system will turn the keywords into a 'search term' and sometimes critical keywords are lost. For example i have an image which i had put 'social' 'networking', and the social keywords is lost at the final results.

how you guys do with the keywords in veer? i usually just submit without adding keywords with their system.

it is a serious problem because picture buyers may not able to find some pictures, and some pictures will never end up as correct search results.

123RF / Re: Sales down???? :(((
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:14 »
It is true..I just stop myself from checking it most of times, like the sales won't grow because i am checking it.

While I am a new member here, I have 20 years experience in the Stock industry. Checking sales daily is really bad time management, time that could be spent creating new images.
Monthly checks are ideal.
I mean if you're going to check daily why not check hourly? As I'm with so many sites that would be such a big chunk of time used up.

I think you got a very impressive portfolio that most of people here will need your advice instead.

I guess you will earn more spending time to create the new images that uploading to POD channels.

Hi guys,

I am a stock contributor with some years of experience, you can view my portfolio e.g. here http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-64681p1.html

I am constantly seeking new venues to licence my photos and just recently have found out about creating products with desings/images on them.
Do you, more experienced in that field, think it would be worth the time to create products with my kind of stock portfolio ?

Thank you for any support!
Michal

Veer / Re: Is Veer on a monthly review schedule?
« on: January 21, 2012, 03:31 »
I wonder are veer going to do something on the review? it is the only agency that take such a long time and now i started to get a lot of inconsistent rejections..

like new reason such as 'This image is too similar to images already on Veer.'

personally i think it is alright, the intention is clear enough. It is just showing how it can looks like, and didn't claim the rights of the image or sell it for profits.

i happen to see this site during google something else..

and the cartoon there is quite humourous.

475
do we need to generate jpg as 300dpi? or just leave it as 72dpi?

it will be nice if i just save as same file name automatically, the illustrator add hypen and the [converted].. it becomes tedious if one has to convert many files..

I had compared jpg preview from illustator and photoshop, the banding in photoshop preview is quite bad, I use both CS5 version..
