It was a pleasure uploading and kw'ing!!  8)=tom

I dunno.. i didn't think it was THAT bad of a picture of dirt.

I have done allright selling solid background pictures of things like snow, old walls, and different types of textures.

Likewise....  Not on IS so much, but elsewhere, background shots like  "dirt"  sell for me.  I do a lot of wood, planking and such.  I took one shot of  wood siding, tinted it green and billed it as  "pressure treated wood" .. it sells. LOL  I upload them in categories such as texture, background, abstract...  they seem to sell.  In fact,  my second highest selling picture is a close-up shot of a red brick sidewalk.  It's been selling by the dozen(s)  every week now for a year and a half.  Close up of bricks. .. go figure.

MIZ pic....  the best!!!   However, dude, I know you're a top notch photog, light years ahead of me... but, I have to tell you, the shot could be confusing!!   I first  thought it  was a black bear eating licorice in a closet...   .. make sure your keywords are specific, bro!!

Likewise on the comment of shooting people at laptops, holding pencils to their mouth and sticking phones in their ears.  If that's what it takes, I'll never get rich in this business. I don't do that.
On the other hand, I'm not in it as my prime source of income.... so I'll continue to shoot the stuff I like to shoot, landscape and  nature.  And contrary to what many profess,   landscape does sell, .........just ask my accountant.   8)=tom

beyond ftp.....    I had a batch sitting there waiting to be kw'ed and submitted.....   took several minutes just to upload the description.... in the end,   couldn't get one done.... filled out all the data, hit the key and..... wait and wait and wait....... finally,  I just shut it down. Time is money and I couldn't wait any more.      Hope it's running soon,  I have a batch there already waiting for kw & descriptions and I've got about 50 more I'd like to upload....        8)=tom

modify:  WHOA...... above was yesterday. I just went to try today and it was click, click, click... that fast!!    Superb!!!!  As Darth Vadar would say,  "Most Impressive!"

of course we are all competitors of each other, and we are also co-workers, in that we can help each other.  I help you, you help me.. we both win.

Addionally there are forum areas for the different member groups (determined by the amount of posts made, or paid membership) so that more sensitive info, or more strategy type talk can be discussed in private from those who just read the forums but never participate.

the  EXACT reason that attracted me to MSG and the reason it is the ONLY forum I participate in ...or even read for that matter.  8)=tom

$'s- IS my best site.   Pic volume=SS, 2nd in $'s.  I am very happy with my DL's vs portfolio size (small folio)...  the upload limit is a hassle, but....  I have no regrets joining IS... as has been said... 20% of something is better than 20% of nothing and you only do the work of uploading those selling pix... once.  8)=tom

Leaf,  I don't use paypal,  I still collect by check......  I suppose that it is inevitable that I must get a paypal account up and running and as soon as I do, I will gladly kick in $25.

MSG has been invaluable to me in my entrance into the microstock world.  This is the ONLY forum that I belong to. It is the only one I've ever found worthwhile.

Thanks for your efforts, sir!!   And thanks to all of you that have helped me!! 8)=tom

What I mean is who has the copyright on a colour a rectangle an arrow a traffic sign a web button the business handshake or the pretty girl with headset?

In regard to copyright on a color check out THIS link  Can copyright issues get any more complicated?  It seems as soon as lawyers get involved, right and wrong goes out the window and winners and losers are formed based on who can argue their point better and nothing else. :o

..... cause all that the lawyers in the U.S. think about is .........the color 'green'.

General Stock Discussion / Re: iStock worth the bother?
« on: January 26, 2008, 16:49 »
IS seems to prefer images with a "natural" feel - you may want to change your post processing a bit to use less contrast and saturation.

Not disagreeing with sharply_done for the regular contributor, but it's a curious remark when you notice the type of image that is featured in their main page. I guess the overprocessed unnatural images are accepted if coming from an exclusive?

Regards,
Adelaide

blows my mind...... yeah, good question.   Mine get kicked back every time.... I stay away from anything  'artsy' now....      who knows...    8)=tom

IS seems to prefer images with a "natural" feel - you may want to change your post processing a bit to use less contrast and saturation.

I am not exclusive, I do not have a mega-folio, I shoot a lot of landscape/nature,  very little typical  'microstock' work.  I'm not displeased with my acceptance rate with IS, fact, it's not bad.
However, I can say that most of my rejections are for... "over processing" the image.  I am usually asked to resubmit the original, unprocessed.   Which in my case, too often I can't do.  A sizeable portion of my work is from before I even knew what  stock was. I processed to the point I liked and never kept the original files. ... I operate differently now....   learned a hard lesson.
Sharply_Done is dead on... with IS,  keep it natural and your tweeking to just that...   a slight tweek.  Do your utmost to get the image perfect right off the CF.

I uploaded and got my pictures reviewed the next day.
I just had a payout there as well. Sales are slow but regular, and I like getting paid in Euro.

geez... must be me.... everyone else seems to be happy... hey, i'll try a small batch and see what happens... maybe it was because it was my initial submission?      8)=tom

Had 4 Large  DL's  on IS in the last 2 days.... all over $2.   I sell  "L's" on a pretty regular basis.  They are mostly landscape shots.  Although 2 of these 4 were a modern livingroom shot.  8)=tom

IS up a little  ... SS up only due to EL's,  DT, BigStock running flat, the rest LO,StockXpert, 123, ScanStck, NLS, Alamy, FT, FP, down or zip. (in fairness, still small folio at 4 of them, poor sales more due to me, I can't expect to sell what isn't there)    8)=tom

hii all of u experts ...

What is the perfect strategy to upload photos ???
is it to upload ten by ten ??
or to wait until u make a good stock abt 250 to 400 then upload them at once in all microstocks ???

Karim farah

Perfect?    Ain't no perfect, my friend.  Anymore we seem to be at the mercy of whatever reviewer is on duty, if that reviewer is a contributing photographer to that agency or not and possibly even more....... which way the wind is blowing, if their dog didn't bite anyone yesterday and if they had good sex last night.   LOL
I think we're all still searching for the elusive even  semi-perfect strategy. LOL    Welcome to the club, mekarim!!  8)=tom

Dreamstime works in depth. Unlike SS, I never sell recent photos there, only older ones (at least 2-3 months online). Your sales won't plummet on DT when you don't upload for 2 months. DT is a hell of a long-term investment.

Ditto:  Older Pix.  Even longer. I've had pix on DT for  6 months to a year before they started to sell...       I also get that on BigStock.  8)=tom

498
my 2 cents....   I also do not find StockXpert any more restrictive than IS or SS, yeah, I've had  'good'  pix rejected there, but I've also placed pix there that SS & IS rejected... go figure... goes with the biz.  I'm happy with my sales there...
I'm a big fan of BigStock too.  I won't get rich at BigStock, sales are slower, however sales are steady.  BigStock has a relatively easy upload and very low rejection rate (I'm 97%) and I like the folks there.  I also find that my old stuff (over a year) still sells on BigStock.  For me, a no hassle site.  Upload, sit back, cash the check when it comes, no problems.
LO, 123rf, .... at least for me,  not too much going on there, been over a year and no cashout.   8)=tom

...... concur with above comments in this..   I'm going for a 5D to get the full sensor, more quality in the image fewer tech problems ... and the opportunity to be able to crop and still have a picture left...
plus... micro/macro isn't the end of the universe for many...  I sell privately and want the ability to blow the things up the size of a living room or... a lobby wall.
