Many thanks for all the useful feedback and opinions. I didn't realize either that iStock is now selling low technical quality images shot with cell phone cams. That is a shame. I will need to be more mindful now on quality when purchasing photos from iStock.
This little comment seems to have been passed over, but I think it's the most important one in the thread.
Buyers have, up to now, been able to trust that images they get at Istock will meet certain quality standards, so they have been able to focus on the content, composition, etc. when selecting images. Now, they are going to have to spend a lot more time going over each image with the zoom feature before purchase to make sure it meets their technical needs.
Or they can go to another site, of course. If I were DT, FT and any other site that isn't accepting snaps from cellphones I would work up an advertising campaign around it.
A real world consequence of Istock relaxing their previous high IQ standards.
I found one photo taken with Iphone on DT, today. i'm not totally opposite accepting photos from cellphone camera, as long as they are putting under proper collection so that buyer can choose from main collection and cellphone collection.

if it's really only 22mp, i dont see myself upgrade from mark2 to mark3 any time soon. D800 is better choice imo.

I keep a table of expenses for each shoot and I tally sales against the expenditures.
as an independent contributor, i found it really hard and time consuming to keep sales of each files. so my lazy way is to use SS catalog manager to put each shoot as a set to track performance. i have done just over 85 shoots (proper shoots with models not just snap here and there), on average cost $300 each, the catalog manager tells me that i have made profit from each every shoot from SS alone, and SS is only about 38% of my total microstock income.

Between $400-$500 is the most.
Just out of curiosity...how long do you expect before you think you'll be able to recover the costs from that shoot and turn a profit?
about 3 or 4 months i estimate. actually, you remind me that i must come back to this topic after i made the money back to see how long it really takes.

hi Guys in a few days, i will be spending $1100 on a single shoot, for model fees, wardrobe, props, locations and transport. this will be the most expensive microstock shoot for me ever. i'm curious what's the most amount of money you would spend on a single shoot? wish me luck cheers.

hi guys
have you experienced that new uploads don't sell as much as they used to be in the first 2 weeks? I've done 4 shoots this year, and noticed that on SS new content still sells but at much slower rate, for example, if i upload 50 new images on SS, it used to sell +/- 20 pics per day, but now only 5 or 6 in the first two weeks. it looks like that it will take longer to recover shooting cost for each shoot, at least it's my case.
what's your experience?

I opt out.
I've been in the microstock business since 2008 and majority of my work are people (+/-6500 images), i'm blessed that up to date i have not receive any complaints of misuse from any of my models, i had a few sensitive usage requests in the past from DT but i declined them all. the reason is quite simple, i also have a few pics of my son in my portfolio, do i want to see him in a AIDS orphan ad? absolutely not. then why do it to other models?
If you have no reason to think that the photo was bought illegally (eg watermarked), there may be nothing you can do, i.e. it's probably a legitimate use. Check the end use t&c from the agency they bought it from. If watermarked, contact the agency concerned.
the photo is not watermarked. this maybe legal but feels wrong.

i'm really surprised that not many people complaining about payoneer payment delays. right now i can't tell you how angry i am, i normally request payoneer payment every week but from 22/june each every of my requests has been delayed and it takes 3 days for IS to reply support tickets with no explainations. what's hell happening?! IS sucks!
