General Stock Discussion / Re: Coronavirus ?« on: April 05, 2020, 22:44 »
No president can stop the Coronavirus. We'd get the same result no matter who is in charge. The US has a system where governors have tremendous power over their states and can overrule the president in many things.
The failure to contain the Coronavirus is on the states as much as it's on the federal level. Doesn't matter though, the results would have been the same. We spend decades outsourcing our production of medical supplies to China. When the world's factory shut down in January and February, every country was struggling to stock up on medical supplies. That's why the European countries are suffering as much as we are. We simply relied on China too much and now we're paying the price. 53
General Stock Discussion / Re: Taxes 2020« on: March 03, 2020, 02:16 »
I sent out my taxes to the accountant. Didn't receive a number of tax documents this year.
Got tired of waiting for 123RF. I also didn't receive my 1099 from Adobe Stock/Fotolia. I just created a yearly report from my earnings history from both websites. Should be okay. 54

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock has really improved compared to Fotolia« on: November 15, 2019, 13:32 »
The closure of Fotolia has impacted a lot of us.
It's obvious that some FT buyers did not transition over to Adobe Stock and our earnings are lower as a result. I also notice some slight algorithm changes on changes on Adobe Stock and some of my bestsellers have dropped in the rankings. It's not a dramatic change, but a 20% drop is still pretty noticeable from my peak. Adobe Stock used to outperform Shutterstock fairly easily. Now, they're comparable. 58
General Stock Discussion / How does everyone feel about the Copyright Alternative in Small Claims Act?« on: October 24, 2019, 13:00 »
AKA the CASE Act.
The Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act of 2019 (the CASE Act) is a proposed United States law that would provide a new means for copyright holders to seek payment for infringed works. It would establish a small-claims-court-like board of three judges within the U.S. Copyright Office to adjudicate copyright infringement cases. Damages would be limited to US$15,000 for each infringed work, and $30,000 total per claim. The measure was introduced into Congress in May 2019, and was passed by the House of Representatives on October 22, 2019. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CASE_Act I feel like the damages are excessive, but it's going to be an effective tool to go after infringers in the U.S. Those Esty sellers better watch out. 59

I'm on pace for BME in September. Quite surprising.
They changed something on SS at the beginning of the month and some contributors are seeing the positive effects of it. 60

You will find templates all over the internet and you can mold it to fit SS's requirements. I usually attach a PDF of the request with my letter. 61

Not sure if something changed, but the last few weekdays have been really good with about 20% more downloads. Maybe SS is tweaking their search algorithm again.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS continues to deteriorate« on: September 03, 2019, 13:03 »
I think this industry is reaching market saturation. There's only so many companies and small business they can sell to. And with technological advances in cell phone cameras in the last few years, just about anyone can take a photo and use it on a website and look semi-professional. There are also those pesky free sites, not to mention pirate sites to contend with.
SS isn't really deteriorating...their growth is. I think this will become the norm from here on out, where it's hard to have the type of growth that we see 10 years ago. Competition is rising, just like every other industry so the only thing we can all do is focus on producing work that has a lot of commercial value and find ways to make it visible to buyers. 63

Do you have your portfolio somewhere other than SS?
If we can see it, maybe we can identify the reasons why you were removed from SS. 64

Adobe Stock / Re: What's going on with Adobe Stock?« on: August 05, 2019, 22:01 »I'm experiencing the opposite situation. Even tho my portfolio is half editorials. As I remembered, FT didn't accept editorials. Your sales are coming directly from the AS side, where they started accepting editorials after they bought FT. For us older contributors, we're losing the credit sales from FT's side. Maybe AS has been actively trying to convert all those credit buyers into subscribers, but credit buyers probably loved the flexibility of the system instead of being charged every month for something they may not use. 66
Adobe Stock / What's going on with Adobe Stock?« on: August 05, 2019, 20:19 »
Sales were steady until a few months ago. It has dropped over 25% in the last few months.
I know they're transitioning all FT buyers over, but there are no more credit sales and subscription prices seem to be higher other major sites. Are they losing customers to SS? AS has been my most consistent earner, but this decline is worrying. They were doing a lot of things right until recently. 67
General - Stock Video / Re: Sales down last few months.« on: July 30, 2019, 16:35 »
Unfortunately, it's just the nature of the business. Supply is outpacing demand and there's more competition than ever. Happens to every industry.
SS is still performance surprisingly well, but AS has declined a little bit. I was banking on AS staying consistent since it's still my biggest earner, but the closure of FT is hurting our download numbers. 68

The engineering team need to work a bit faster. They need to add a search to the portfolio and it shouldn't take them this long.
If they move any slower, they need to have their salary reduced. 69
Image Sleuth / Re: Report SS infringement« on: July 03, 2019, 15:55 »
Email doesn't work anymore. If you file an infringement claim from the support page, they will ask you to submit a DMCA takedown notice.
So the only thing you can do is file a DMCA takedown request, otherwise they won't do anything. 70

Many of your photos... a lot of people can take them with their phones in 2019. And the photos that does have some commercial value, I've seen other photos with similar subject matter that are a lot more downloadable.

Image Sleuth / Re: Etsy is the absolute worst« on: June 03, 2019, 19:56 »Prepare to be super annoyed with Etsy. They don't care. You will get a stock copy and paste answer about how they "can't get involved". I have had it multiple times when pointing out a blatantly fake counter notice (false details etc.) . Lying leaves the crook open to perjury charges, good luck suing someone you know nothing about in a foreign country over stolen stock images. It's why I'm so p**sed on this and the other thread. Shop is gone, along with many others. I guess the barraged of DMCA takedowns worked. 72
Image Sleuth / Re: Etsy is the absolute worst« on: May 29, 2019, 02:56 »Oh yeah, Etsy probably know who they are. They just don't care that they are filling out different/ false information on legal documents to cover up their theft. You say "Her" but as they are obviously giving false information it could be anyone (male or female). They give their location as NYC in one place and the UK in some of their counter notices. I very much doubt the name they are providing is real either. When Etsy doesn't give a s**t on this level there's not much that can be done. It's like trying to get one of the old Warez sites to take action in the early 2000s. Let's just keep filing against this person. Maybe Etsy will take down the shop. It's been frustrating dealing with Etsy infringers. They think they can sell something because they found it on Google or because 20 other shops are selling it. And when you say a design belongs to you, they want proof and they don't believe it unless it's on the US copyright website. Etsy makes me appreciate the approach that Shutterstock and Adobe Stock takes. They take down the images and ban entire accounts if more than a couple people file a DMCA request. Etsy is a clusterfuck. The US need to change the law on this Safe Harbor nonsense, because like you said. Etsy is not going to do anything because they like the dirty money. 73
Shutterstock.com / Re: New dimension for EPS files (4 megapixels)« on: May 28, 2019, 14:51 »Just put a white rectangle layer at the background with the same size ot the artboard... Yeah I can do that, but that's destroying the integrity of the artwork. That's also just more work for me. According to their new uploading article, you now have to check the Use Artboards box when saving your EPS. Then it takes your artboard into account when it renders the preview. I haven't tried it, I refuse to upload until this is resolved. Are you referring to this article? https://www.shutterstock.com/contributorsupport/articles/en_US/kbat02/000006575 I can't find the option to "Use Artboard" when trying to save an EPS file. Where do I find it? 74
Shutterstock.com / Re: New dimension for EPS files (4 megapixels)« on: May 28, 2019, 00:14 »
I uploaded a vector for the first time they made the change and it's a disappointment.
I can adapt to the new size. No problem. What's disappointing is that they take the size of the artwork instead of the artboard size. This cause a lot problems. I leave some padding on my artwork since most of them DON'T have backgrounds. I want them to be centered and surrounded by white space. When Shutterstock render the JPG from my EPS file, the rendered JPG has no padding. It looks like a mistake and when people search for my work, it goes from edge to edge and it really messes up my presentation. I don't know what they're thinking. The tech is clearly not ready for prime-time. They need to change it so that it renders a JPG from the size of the Artboard instead of the size of the artwork. 75

Yes, I am aware. We dont know who this person is and the address she gave you is probably fake. Map the addresss on her counter claim and see where it is. Counter claims with fake information is a violation of Etsys terms of service. While Im doing my part, please let Etsy know if the address she give is fake, so they can investigate. This person giving false information on a counter claim may be the best weapon against her/him and get the shop taken down. |
