Description is not searched anymore.
I've since found the tab for description, call me stupid. I was just use to the old version where everything is right in front of you. I changed the default license type to none so I don't make the mistake of letting some through as RF when I want them as RM. I know the No model release ones and No property release ones automatically go to RM, but there are some I want as RM which I have a model release for. As for the description are you saying I don't need to put in the description because it's not searched anymore? Why do they still have it?

sounds like that should work fine, dongding. I don't remember the old version of managing images - partly because I didn't start submitting more than 1.5 images a month until a few months ago.
There should be two choices on your "My Alamy" page. There's the Manage Images (old version) and Manage Images V2.4. Both of them still show up on my main page. It still won't show my descriptions, just the keywords. It takes me forever to redo everything. I have tons of stuff that wouldn't work with micro I'm uploading there. Hope it's worth all the trouble. Have you had any luck with them? I've only sold a few long ago but nothing recent.

That just reminded me of the "real" virus that was going around in the 90's. It disabled your virus software and when you went on line and put in a web address it would send you to another one. Luckily I had more than one computer and was able to do a search on it and get the fix I needed. It was all because I hadn't updated Windows. Once I learned about AVG I haven't had one problem with viruses. The free virus software is much better than Norton or Macafee!!!

pet_chia did I understand you right? Are you saying there should not be a minimum wage? The reason that was put into force was for workers to earn a decent wage and not be taken advantage of by big corporations. If that wasn't in force all the world would be like some of this companies that have sweat shops where there workers are required to work for next to nothing. A classic example of harmful government intervention is the minimum wage. Large companies like Walmart lobby the government hard to raise the rate and to impose other "standards" on corporations. Instead of being intended to help the public, these have the (intended) effect of shutting down small, Mom and Pop businesses which have low wages and benefits, but which compete effectively with big companies because of their location, personal service and low cost structure. Minimum wages actually hurt the people that the government claims it is trying to help, because it makes it more expensive for companies to hire young and inexperienced workers. The law of supply and demand means that as the cost for labor goes up, the number of purchasers of labor goes down. This is a win-win for large corporations and the government however. Large corporations which pay rates above the minimum wage have their smaller, poorer competitors shut down. Government gets a whole new class of unemployed and disaffected people which it can use as a welfare-dependent voting block, a rent-a-mob to be agitated whenever it suits the government's purposes, and as cannon fodder in foreign wars.

I don't have sets of business cards on SS, but I can see where helix7 is coming from. More than likely a buyer would buy a set of these cards rather than individual cards. It doesn't take a whole lot of work to create them either. I don't think these sets are taking money out of the other contributors pockets either. I think if the buyer sees a design he likes in a set he'll buy it rather it was a single design or multiple. It still adds up to one sale and if the contributor is happy with that then so be it.

On my issue, I was actually glad to get anything back. It was supposed to only cost me what he recovered in "damages", but the guy was continually padding his billable time.
My husband joked that if this guy thought about our case while he was in the bathroom he charged us for the time spent on the toilet, LOL. Sad thing is it's probably true!
That is so true Lisa. We are in an estate battle at the moment and every time the lawyer reads our e-mail or listens to the messages that he repeatably gets from us, you get charged a quarter of an hour even though it didn't take him but two minutes to read it or listen to it. Every time we have to have a phone conference and it takes him 30 minutes to get all five parties connected then that's another half hour charged before we ever get started on the conference. At $250.00 bucks an hour....it adds up fast.

Got the latest upload through, but has anyone had a problem with the new "Manage Your Images" not showing the description? I also noticed they all come through as royalty free through this way and no way to change them to RM. I finally went to the Old version and the description showed up there and had the option to change to RM. Is this the way the new one is or am I doing it wrong?
Not sure if this is at all relevant, in "Manage Your Images" you can set the Default Pseudonym and type of License. So I set mine to my main pseudonym and license type, and start from there when getting images ready.
Thanks Ann, but I noticed that when I went back to that area to assign releases so I changed it to no license type assigned. I'll see how that works out. I noticed also that there are more than one tab and the additional information you can put in like what is in the old "manage images" section is there. Call me stupid I guess..... I still think I like the old way better because it's all right there in front of you.

iStock is one place that trapped many contributors with their promises of bigger commissions for those who went exclusive with a deadline of August 31st just one month before their big announcement.
It was even worse than that. The bombshell was dropped on September 8th. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=251812&page=1
Whoops sorry I stand corrected.. I meant to say the month before meaning August...

Had a few pass last night. No problem with any part of Manager. These were RF shots anyways but I could change it if I wanted in Manager. Dont know what is happening with yours.
I don't know either. I was a bit surprised when the description wasn't there. All the keywords were of course in the third keyword space as always but no description and royalty free as default. And you can't change that after it's saved. I'll just stick with the old manager. I just wish they would just put all the keywords in one place rather than having to move them all around.

I don't know the legality of all this, but does this ad agency claim this is an actual customer as some of these places do?

The point is: you're FREE TO MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICE. Don't feel stuck in one or the other scenario and complain about it endlessly. Make a decision you feel is best for you and focus all your energies into making it the most rewarding arrangement for all involved. Do you really feel it's right to enter into an arrangement with a business with the idea that you will both benefit, then trash that partner at every opportunity? Please, just walk away. Or at least stop crying about how you're being taken taken advantage of. Are you a slave? Just walk away.
Microstock - Love It or Leave It.
I always get the biggest kick out of people who come in forums to bitch and moan about all the bitching and moaning. And they do it without the slightest trace of irony or self-awareness. LOL!
If you don't want to read our crying and moaning, according to your own argument, you should walk away. Right?
Right on the money Lisa....

I realize that there is a lot of negative posts on this forum and this is the only place a lot of them can vent their frustrations, just as you can, but to the OP you have to realize that many contributors rely on their income from microstock and iStock is one place that trapped many contributors with their promises of bigger commissions for those who went exclusive with a deadline of August 31st just one month before their big announcement. That is why people want them to be accountable for what they have done. They would have known what was going on before the announcement. If their business was losing money by keeping the current commission rate earned by the different canister levels then why in the world would they want more to join just to take higher commissions? If that isn't misleading on their part I don't know what is. That's what it's all about. Many of the exclusives can't just pack up and leave because they have no portfolios anywhere else because of the broken promises.

Since they did away with the upsizing policy and accept microstock as RF maybe next they will reduce the payout to $100 rather than $200.....
Isn't it $250?
SHOOT!!! Well then maybe they will reduce it to $200.00... I just hope I'm not wasting my time uploading all these pics.

I agree with mtkang about the portrait's. When I look at them the first question that comes to my mind is what in the world are they looking at? If you're trying to display a concept it needs more content. Plus the cropping issue, most agencies do not like that and will reject it for bad composition.
As for the mouse. I don't think it would make it. Who would want to use it or what concept are you trying to display? Like Leaf said you gotta ask your self that question. You gotta remember these will be used by ad agencies and designers and the like. Don't get me wrong, they are good photos, just don't think they would make it through the inspection process. It has been getting harder and harder to get approval at a lot of these agencies.
Good luck and keep on trying.

I've started uploaded to them again and we'll see how that goes. I can upload so much more with Alamy than I can with the microstock because of their copyright policies.

My review times are 24 to 36 hours. Unless you put something in on Friday... then you wait all weekend like I am doing now.
I do consider the Micros more stringent on reviews than Alamy.
That's a better review time than most of the micro's!! I agree the Micro's are picker. The old photos I uploaded there in 2007 are the worst I've seen..

The dreaded QC rejection which still means one fail all fail.
I guess the best way to handle that if you have a iffy one is to upload it like you do with iStock...15 a week. That is if their approval time is a week. I don't know because it's been a long time since I uploaded anything there. After looking at some of the shots in category I was looking at, those shots are much worse than I have so I doubt I'd have a problem.

Why even shoot? I'd probably make more money just selling my props on ebay than bothering to shoot them for microstock.
That's just about what it's boiled down to...

To which Lobo added: "This is the final word on this issue. Thanks for your patience, everyone. Go Giants." and locked the thread.
I haven't a clue what the Giant reference was about. Must be an injoke with Joyze or something.
He's probably referring to the New York Giants NFL team or the San Fransisco Giants the baseball team that just won the World Series.
And that was relevant to our concerns about ELs because ... ? Doesn't seem like a very respectful comment while locking a thread. :-(
Maybe the some of the koolaid drinkers like the Giants...who knows with these people anymore.

The XMP files attached to Raw files, do you keep them or delete them? I know they contain data but when I'm done editing a photo is it worth saving it or deleting it?

I've already deleted my low seller ones and have not uploaded any new content and don't plan to. When January comes I plan to delete the rest. Might as well suck them dry before they suck us dry.
