« on: March 20, 2014, 10:56 »
Let us know how it goes.

I'm around 7 days from crossing it and am feeling happy and axious at the same time. :D
Crossed it, I missed by one day! So happy! :D

However, my sales are still at the 0.36$ level. How long does it take for SS to update?

« on: March 19, 2014, 15:44 »
Yeah.

My SOD sales have increased by 2300% (in earnings) from February, and it's only 19.3. now.

503
Your vote, please :)

(If there are some options I did not cover, just write them down. Maybe the admin can add them in later)

504
Why not? It sounds better then waiting tables or flipping burgers at Mickie Ds.

I think flipping burgers might be more profitable and less boring, but I might be wrong.

But I wouldn't call it interesting, that's for sure.

505
It certainly sounds like an interesting job
Really?

Looks pretty bad so far.

It's mid month and I have already earned more than in whole February.

But DT is an agency like this for me. I get to have some bad months with only subscription sales, and some good ones.

508
Well, not exactly an equivalent... the free Ford would have to be smaller and less powerful and you also couldn't drive it outside of your neighbourhood. :)

509
How can you contribute your photos?
Just keep uploading to 500px.com, and ensure your Store is enabled. Go to 500px.com/store to do that. Saleable photos must be at least 3000px on their longest edge. We're constantly scraping the site for saleable photos, and sending out invites. We have about 50k photos in our backlog right now, so as soon as we get through those, we'll send more invites. You can email [email protected] to get more info and step by step instructions too. It's an automated response, but has lots of info.
I don't get it. For example, this photo: https://prime.500px.com/photos/7953347

It's nor 3000px, but 1024px on its longest side. And it's for sale.

Could you explain the criteria once again?

I'm hours away from the 38c threshold and quite frankly not looking forward to it - if the result is my port being "switched off" in favor of "newer" or "cheaper" contributors.

In fact SS, would you mind keeping me at my present level and continue the growth please. On the other hand, if my port is not switched off and my earnings continue apace, forget I said anything and have a nice day.
Let us know how it goes.

What do you think, is it a good idea to offer images direct for ShotShop?
They are not interested in microstock images.

Luis posted their reply when he inquired about contributing:

Hi Luis Santos,

thanks for your interest contributing images at shotshop.com. please let me explain that we are mainly focussed on the german speaking markets with more selected images and even higher prices than the usual microstocks. It doens't make sense for us to display the same images like the subscription stocks. I am sorry and hope for your understanding.

good luck and
best regards
Stephan Krmer

So, yeah.

513
Ok, they have actually removed my portfolio from shotshop. Good.

Still not sure if I'll continue to contribute to DP. Probably will just leave files that I have there, but not upload new stuff. Dunno.

514
A whole bunch of nothing.
Good to know that Symbiostock is not as successful story as it looks on the first sight.

sorry to disappoint you but symbiostock IS a success..

I won't be giving away numbers but in the first 10 days of march I made more on symbiostock than the following agencies combined:

- depositphotos
- dreamstime
- envato
- fotolia
- bigstock
- canstock
- zazzle
- veer
- graphicleftovers
- stockfresh
- alamy
- yaymicro

yes! I pity you for your comment, and you deserve every bit of it.. :)
So, you had one big sale, or multiple sales?

I'm happy for you, but I think people are wondering are your results a rule or an exception. How was you Feb? And Jan? How are your averages?

515
Dear X,

I have noticed that my portfolio is still available on Shotshop, even though you claimed that the process of removing it from all your partner programs and API reseller sites should be complete by march 8. If my portfolio is still available on Mar 11, I request that you close my account after my last earnings request has been processed.

Regards,
XY

bye bye, dp. you won't be missed.

It's creepy that this came up less than a month from this topic.

http://www.microstockgroup.com/shutterstock-com/what-if-somebody-were-to-download-your-entire-portfolio-in-a-year/

Yeah, and people gave me all kinds of insults for opening it.

Nice to see this topic. :p

517
Same here.

I guess deactivation is the only option. :)

I don't think you need to do anything. On fotosearch you are the "Value Images", not "Premium"; I think they update every so often, not in real time (but I don't know how often).

Your CanStock image number with a k prefix appears to be the coding and you can search by number so you might try that?
Tried it like that, nope. Guess it takes them some time, then, if there is no need to apply for that kind of distribution...

519
CanStockPhoto noob question - does one need to apply to be included in the fotosearch results?

I see that some of you claim that they get high royalties from fotosearch, so I went to their site (thinking they are the partner/owner of CanStockPhoto) and searched for my images, but none came up.

Some of them can't.  I answered several questions specifically about where to look elsewhere.

As for direct messaging, again, they asked in the open air of twitter.  They didn't send their concerns in a direct message, so I answer in the open air.
Well ok, whatever comforts you. If you believe you haven't behaved unprofessionally and that your sole reason for tweeting the same thing multiple times was "just helping others", there isn't much I can say or do. I can only choose to not believe you, what I actually opted for.

Also the other ones defending you that you are just helping others, like people can't type "microstock agency" in google, I don't know if they're being naive or just justifying your unprofessionalism under the pretext of helping because you're known in this community.

Whatever the case may be, it's yours and their choice, as mine is mine. I might not share the popular opinions around here, but at least I'm not phased by certain figures and am honest about my intentions and attitudes. Case closed for me. :)

It's hard because Sean is an individual and iStock is a corporate entity, added to which there is the issue of the assymmetry of power, where the stronger party confers credibility on the weaker through a direct challenge.
You know, this reminds me of the political situation in my country.

There's always two parties struggling for power. And when it's election time, advertisements for both pop up all around, of course. And then I sometimes see one of the advertisements sprayed with a message like "THE PARTY X IS SH*T", "THE PARTY X DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY" or something similar. And what I always think then is, ok, I won't give my vote to the other party, since they obviously go so low to spray the competition with such messages. I don't see party x destroying the posters of party y. Therefore, in that regard, party x is better.

If I were a buyer, I'd stay away from stocksy because of this.

No, because they probably cannot react so fast. They need more time to think, to act.
Ha-ha.

Replace iStock with shutterstock. Or ask yourself why shutterstock didn't reply to that tweet saying "come here, our web is up". Or any other normal stock agency.

You think it's wrong to try to help people who can't buy images they need for project deadlines?
You'd rather the customers just failed?

And, as has been said already, after they way they treated Sean, he's got every right.
If the only intention was to help, he could have sent private messages. Also, could have helped by just replying once.

Additionally, do you think buyers are idiots? That they can't find another stock agency?

All of this is very naive in order to justify something unprofessional. And fine, do it as much as you want, I just don't agree with it or consider it professional, regardless of who the contributor is. It's like here you can't say one negative thing about certain people, which isn't really untypical in isolated small online communities, but still kinda sucks.

It was Getty that decided they wanted Sean as a competitor ... rather than one of their most successful contributors. Now they are reaping what they sowed.
Can you imagine iStock repeatedly tweeting something similar to what Sean tweeted if Stocksy were to experience downtime?

It's hard, right?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is iStock website down?

I don't see it as spamming.  As I see it, twitter is a big open room with everyone yelling.  If I want to yell about something in response to someone else yelling, especially when there's an opportunity like 8 hours of downtime, to offer an alternative, what's wrong with that?  It's not automated, and it isn't offensive.  So we'll have to disagree. :)
You could have tweeted "@istock is down, if you want to buy at a stock agency that's online, check #stocksy" or something similar, once, as a reply to their site experiencing downtime. I'm sure everybody who's interested would see you message (it was near the top of the list, right?). This is just spamming by my criteria. Then again, maybe I don't understand how twitter and life in general work. Whatever. :)
