WOW...   I just had a batch of 20-some with only one reject and .... approved in a little over 24 hours!! So I uploaded another 20-some a few hours ago. The upload at 123 is fantastically easy....
Now... if the sales follow.......  we'll see.  8)=tom

Tom, I hear Acdsee is great for organizing, they currently have a 30 day free trial...

Thanks, Void...  yeah.... several weeks ago I downloaded the beta version for a trial run...........  and then never found the time to really play with it before it expired.  I don't mind spending the bucks for a piece of software.. but I always like to hear personal critique and experience of others before I lay out the cash.  8)=tom

"stealing keywords"

I know what you folks are saying.  Yeah, no way you should be punching into someones similar pic and just copy/paste the kw's over to your pic.  That's nothing but being incredibly flippin lazy.

On the other hand...  there's only so many words you can come up with to describe an object.   Stealing keywords?

With animals and flora,  I frequently use the latin names on some sites that specialize in such....  the buyers like having this.  If I were to see those latin words on someone else's flower picture....  I sure would not go off the deep end contacting the agency....   oh my god, someone is stealing my keywords.......     a hat is a hat is a hat....

and I used hat... so I hope I don't see hat in anyone else's KW's... insert laughter here... LOL    I couldn't care less if someone copy and pasted my KW's... what's the big deal?

And leaf makes a very valid point.  How many sites are we on that require the kw's to be english?   I know if I had to upload in a language I didn't speak...  I'd be skimming thru others kw's for ideas along with a dictionary in my hand.....

and as for me... I think KW's should be limited as well...  I personally find that I use far, far fewer KW's than I did when I first got into the biz.

and one final point...   if it's no big deal,  why aren't we all putting our names in the KW's?

I think on other sites, this is an instance of people cutting and pasting. A hogan is a navajo hut. Probably someone used the keyword hogan for a bamboo hut and someone else copied it into s bamboo picture, etc.

Good point, db!!  You know that happens a lot more than people will admit..  sitting there at a loss...  "what the heck kind of keywords should I use... I know, let me see what everyone else uses..."    I've done that myself... however,  I do not just paste.  I get the idea and I plug in what I think will work.

...funny you should mention the hogan.  I was just reading a "how to build'  article on a hogan the other day.  8)=tom

Photoshop 7.0
Elelments 3.0
Micrografx Picture Publisher  7a  (yeah, I like it!!  it does a lot of the simple stuff.... simply!!   and it does it well. I had to do a search on the web to find this old version a couple years ago.   For $14.95.... it does one monster heck-of-a job!!!  Yes,  I'm doing my pro work on a fourteen dollar program! Stuff I've got published in magazines and books, I massaged in Micrografx 7a.)

Yup, only three..       What I need is a good piece of software to organize my pic library... my homespun excel data base is getting to be a bit of a drag with over a 1,000 pix in it...

amen.... canon or nikon...   while I've been in the micro biz for less than 2 years...I've been shooting with Canon 35mm SLR's for 35 years (DSLR since I bought my first rebel).  In complete humility,  I am often surprised at how low a life-time rejection rate I have with every agency I upload to.  Especially when I read of the woes of so many others.  I give a lot of credit for those low rejections to my CMOS .
Yeah I get my share of noise rejections too... but.... overall most of what I submit gets accepted.  I honestly believe it's the Canon more than me..  LOL .. My next buy will be the 5D.  8)=tom

You can try it for yourself, but the main point is that you may want to do random checks of your keywords to make sure no unauthorized changes have been made to yours.

.................  with  a thousand plus images spread over a dozen sites....  ???
that would be a fulltime job for a few people..    I did a random check on a few of my high selling pix on  a few sites...    nada, zip, nothing.  Dale's not living there...............  yet.  Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.... 8)=tom

modify:  Just for the heck of it,  I did what maunger did.... surprising what turns up across several sites... not just  bamboo...
this will be interesting....   then again,  maybe the words  'dale'  and 'hogan'  have something relevant to do with a pizza cutter???  .....NOT!!
I'm staying tuned!!    :o

I'm actually a little be ashamed to see that such basic picture do sell so well, and it is somehow frustrating for a photographer to see that his best sellers are not the best photo in his portfolio... this is business and business does not want my macro shots  :'(

LOL....  I'm laughing with you, araminta.... LOL..   My 2nd best seller on SS is a closeup picture of a brick sidewalk....  nothing to it...  a bunch of bricks...      8)-tom

Now that that is all said and done....  I just bailed out for the night on LO.
Trying to submit a dozen or so pix, but everytime I try to load the keywords, it bumps me out and won't load.   Pretty frustrating as well.
I'm still hanging in there... been over a year now, still lightyears from side show and pay outs....  but I continue to upload....   or at least, I'm trying to upload.
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day...    8)-tom

123 sales have been very low for me, however, I've only had 57 pix there.   I just started to do mass uploading there in hopes that with a larger 'folio I might attract more sales...   we'll see how that works out.  123 is an easy upload.    8)-tom

I signed on with them a month ago but have yet to upload.... Maybe I'll see how this thread goes in the next couple days.
I want to expand a little.  I am still waiting on approval by ScanStock ( over  2 weeks now).  I'm on DT, BigStock, FT, FP, SS, IS, LO, NLS, StockXpert, and 123rf.
Anyone want to reccomend anything else of value? It would be appreciated.

nope,  just uploaded a batch today and got my confirm email...

SS my top two sold are   173  and 169.

I only upload 3 at a time, twice a week, seems to keep sales going. IS is now outselling SS dollar-wise for me now. But SS will probably never be unseated from #2 by any of my other sites. I'm still happy with SS.  8)-tom

I've also had some rather strange rejections at IS. With a batch I send last week I have a 50% acceptance rate with some photos still pending. I send the same batch to the 7 other agencies where I submit, and with all the others I got 100% accepted. I don't have a problem with high standards, because that is what draws the buyers to an agency, but to me the reasons given doesn't make sense. They say artifacts at full view and I can resubmit after fixing the problem, but how can I fix the artifacts if I can't find it?

the artifacting rejection bothers me a bit.  frankly,  a lot of  my IS artifacting rejects...   I simply don't see at 100%.  when they send me a sample attachment...  I have to blow my file image up 200% or more to get the same sized image on my screen (in photoshop 7, elements or micrografx, all give me the same image at 100%)...

I don't know if I'm making myself  clear in my comment...
to have the same size view as the attachment they send me as a sample, I have to take my file image up over 200%... and at 100%, I personally can't see any artifacting.

I wonder if  I'm doing something wrong when I view my images before selecting for upload.  any suggestions out there?  8)=tom

There's a long thread of people experiencing the same thing on the Micropayment Yahoo group so you are not the only ones this is happening to. I think they're really starting to crack down on the non-exclusives

well....  I  hope that's not what it is all about.    We'll see what the next couple weeks brings.

Yeah, the money's good at IS, but you have to take your lumps (in the form of image rejections) in order to get it. One of my IS monthly goals is to build my portfolio by at least 60 images ... it can get disheartening at times.

Some days are good, some are really bad...   I got beat near death on my last batch.... just about 50% rejected...  but that's IS.  Some batches they'll only reject 2 outta 20...     In the long run, they still make me the most money..  but I sure agree with Sharply_done,  yesterday I was feeling pretty low...
the bulk of the rejections... artifacting...    oh well,  like I've said before many times,   "If one doesn't want them another will and they'll sell them."   Guess that's why I'm with 10 agencies... LOL   8)=tom

I have a real soft spot for Bigstock. When I first started out they were the most helpful site, the reviewers even sending me emails with pointers and tips. Their encouragement meant a great deal.

I agree with that....  Bigstock has been great in every way for me except the important one...   sales.   If I could pull in the sales that I do with IS.. it would be BigStock.  Easier upload process, higher acceptance.  8)=tom

23 images with 600 sales at IS? That's pretty impressive.

Ah.............  that sure impresses the heck out of me!!!  Nice work, Pixart!!  8)=tom

Right now?   IS.   I used to run my mouth totally against being exclusive.....  Sometimes with IS.. I now think about it.... not  a lot...but once in awhile I wonder about it...    I would have never considered it my first year in micros.

2nd would be SS

547
slow but steady..   I too like BigStock.   I have a high acceptance rate and I have always found the folks to be extremely friendly and helpful!!  I have had cashouts there,  not frequently, but I have no reason to leave.  In fact I uploaded a dozen more pix there last night.  I think BigStock has my largest 'folio.   I can always count on sales there.  8)=tom

My experience on IS has been similar..  I sell more landscape shots on IS than any other site. In fact, the bulk of what I sell on IS is landscape/travel.  However, my sales at both are comparable.  IS does now outsell SS for me.

IS and SS  blow all the other 10 I'm on away.  Both each on their own payout more than all the other 10 put together

I continue to upload to all though as the occassional payout feels nice in my wallet. 8)=tom

Featurepics.com / Re: Anyone selling at Featurepics?
« on: December 12, 2007, 07:18 »
Zero.   However.... at this time, I only have a few pix there.   I had a decent sized portfolio there for almost a year and sold nothing.  I recently stripped out all the old pix and am currently repopulating with different images.
I will probably use FP as a link to my own professional site (if I ever get that finished...LOL) and link my site to it...  at that time, I will populate FP with images that I don't sell on the other micros (at prices comparable to my personal site). I'll keep some of my better selling micro images on FP as well at lower comparable micro prices.
I will be doing similar with Alamy(populate it with images not selling on the micros). I'm hoping both will drive views into my personal biz site.   8)=tom

For sites that give very little sales... about the same..  for sites that sell well for me, I'm up a little across the board in December.   8)=tom
