iStockPhoto.com / Re: June statements are in
« on: July 19, 2022, 04:29 »
Considering I had only a little over 60% downloads on the previous month yet a little over 99% earnings, I think it was not a bad month. June achieved an RPD of $2.42.

Pond5 / Re: Pond 5 Sales & Discounting
« on: July 19, 2022, 02:14 »
Today I sold 3 clips on P5, and 2 of them were discounted by over 50%. I checked and none of those clips are available as subscriptions when you filter as Subscriptions in the search under Collections. So I am assuming it cannot be that.

I know that P5 reserves the right to lower pricing for non-exclusive contributors if they believe its too high for that type of asset, but when I checked the listed price they are listed as $57.00, not $26.00.

Hi Annie, maybe it could be other thing....
if your content is being sold in other marketplace by less P5 will match same price. This was introduced by p5 in 2018/2019 contributor agreement. However they change a little bit lately (some months before the SSTK merge).

If you go to section 3. Pricing and Your Share of Net License Revenue, article v in contributor Agreement (link : https://www.pond5.com/legal/contributor)

"notwithstanding anything to the contrary provided in this Section 3.a., you shall not set the price for an item of Content that is higher than the lowest price for which the same (or substantially the same) Content item is offered by or on any other media marketplace, agency or other redistribution arrangement (each an "Other Marketplace"), and if we discover that the Content item is offered at a lower price by or on any Other Marketplace, we may lower the price in our marketplace to match or beat that price."

Thanks Evaristo.

I closed my footage port on SS a couple of  weeks ago, so the only other place they are available is on AS.

Annie, I'm quite surprised you turned off your footage port on Shutterstock. You feel the commission's are no longer acceptable?

I think I'm having the apocalyptic natural disaster pandemic global supply chain crisis economic recessionary slump this month.

I just scraped in to my BME for the combined earnings across the four agencies I contribute to, thanks to a $1.72 image sale on Shutterstock in the closing hours of the month, which shows how close it is. Was disappointed I missed a monthly earnings goal, though I made it if I include the three assets on the AS program but I'm not counting those as I don't consider those being the business.

RPD at Adobe is slipping for me but, and it is a big but, the volume of sales is improving greatly. So far over 10k dls this year compared 6.8k for the same period last year. Net take is up just over 18% compared to the same period last year.

I hope we don't see as big a drop in terms of $/RPD but as long as I keep earning more each year then they must be doing something right.

Wow, those are good numbers! Congratulations!

If you don't mind me asking, how big is your AS portfolio?

Cheers approx 19k

Thought I knew that .name somewhere. His / her real name is TripleFull cleverly and clandestinely disguised as HalfFull.

Good to see you post again and I know you have a lot of experience with video for MS so good to hear your views.

Don't forget to look beyond stock. Its a sunk ship after all. If you try and experiment with other eCommerce/part time income stuff you might find something better and you'll be better off then getting 10 cents or less.

I receive emails from Flippa selling business websites / marketplace stores such as Amazon FBA and think wish I had the skills, knowledge and clear vision on how to do this because there's a lot that make some really decent profits, more than my day job and of course much more than microstock.

533
Adobe Stock is still good for photos imho.

No not at all. Adobe take my content like a hungry beast. Much better than Sstock.

iStockPhoto.com / May statements are in
« on: June 17, 2022, 03:16 »
While my earnings were a tad over double the earnings in April, and over 12x that of May 2021, the downloads report suggested it would of been much more. Even so, May 2022 is my 4th best earnings overall on iStock.

536
Just had a sale on Pond5 with a pretty good commission - which will be missed if the new owner starts meddling with royalties.

537
Summer on the other side of the planet but it is winter in this part of Earth.

538
Pond5 sales have dropped of a cliff since Shutterstock took over and incidentally had a far higher-than-usual number of video sales on Shutterstock in the first six days of June.

539
Adobe Stock is the only agency (by far) that has renewed my hope for selling photos, based on my experience for at least the past month.

Subberstock is firing on all cylinders so far this month while not a bad month in May - did most of the heavy lifting. Go Subber! Other sites like P5 and iStock did poorly. Adobe did very well in May too though slow start so far in June. ETA Adobe has started to fire up!

Good start of the month on SS, indeed:

Congrats once more!

I'm guessing those were video sales, right?

For me it's the worst start of the month ever for shutterstock. I only have 29 downloads for $4.47. No idea what's going on there.

Sorry misread the post. Please ignore. :)

Awesome download payments. On Shutter I've had 6 video downloads in June for an RPD of $15.05 and together with some image sales on SS and AS am already at three figures just a couple of days into the new month. This is not my BE in short-term results (since starting in Feb 2019) and nothing compared with ZTs above, but I'm happy with this start for June 2022.

Here's the best way to clean a camera. Works like magic everytime... https://youtu.be/_xj1FlL-iAo

I've found that this technique only works with a steel brush, not a toothbrush. I mean, to really get those baked on sensor spots off, you need to really agitate them. Use stainless though.

Aah so that's the trick to really getting the sensor clean and shiny. I'll give that a go next time. That's what's so great about this forum - quality sound advice we can all rely on.

General - Top Sites / Re: I'm the guy with the grey beard
« on: May 20, 2022, 18:23 »
Poor Joe. I always smile to myself whenever I see his threads on a forum. There are no half measures with Joe. People either love him or hate him. But he is definitely not forgettable.

When he first started a few years ago, there was a time on the old SS forum, where a lot of newbies would ask for feedback on their portfolios, and there were always a handful of people giving advice who would say to them, 'you only have a dozen photos, how do you expect to compete with millions in the database. You need a lot more photos.'

So along came newbie Joe, and he said he was going to upload 10k photos in his first year. And he got attacked for that. But he stuck to his guns, set his goal, and did a very amazing effort. He travelled a lot, went to a lot of different events and locations, and for someone with some serious health issues, he did quite a valiant job. In the beginning, there were not that many similars in his port. But towards the end of the year, he was running out of time, so he took all these 'selfies' and made a lot of similars - to reach his goal. And of course, he got attacked for that.

Yes, he's controversial, he's a fighter, but he's also a really nice guy when you get to know him. So, hopefully people will just relax and take it all in good humor. There are a lot worse things happening at the moment.

Annie, I'm not going to comment further on this issue in general right now. But I thank you for your peace efforts. Because you are absolutely right: There are certainly much bigger and weightier issues at the moment than microstock!
What you have written has certainly cost you time to find a good and mediating formulation. And that finds my full appreciation!

Remember those days on the SS forum very well - though I was only a reader and never posted until much later after Joe left. As a newbie myself at the time, I was inspired by Joe's work ethic and had adopted a similar mindset, even if I never reached anywhere near the number of images. I put my efforts into video and feel this has helped me to make some income on the side, even passively, especially last year when I was concentrating on getting another job and moving interstate, with the income from stock helping a lot with moving costs. So there's one for Joe who inspired another newbie to make something of this.

Bit of a surprise really as the download information came in late this month. But anyway, not a great month in April. Better than the last two Aprils though.

Buying off competition. I just hope pond5 won't share Bigstock's fate. Also we have a very weird situation where part of pond5 content is available on Alamy so Shutterstock is de facto an Alamy partner  :o

https://blog.pond5.com/14237-pond5-launches-global-partner-program-with-adobe-stock-integration/

and AdobeStock.

I can see one massive monopoly/cartel looming ahead.

That's dated April 2017.

I usually don't care much about finding my images in the media and online. Seen quite a few just doing a desktop search. But occasionally I find something that feels really quite cool. Watching television this morning and on comes an ad on Channel 7 about the final showdown debate of contending political party leaders here in Oz with the federal elections coming up later this month. I wasn't able to find the ad online so just took a recording of the tv screen on my phone. The clip goes for barely 1 second at the 8 second mark. Was an aerial drone hyperlapse of Parliament House I did over a year ago. Same clip appeared on a Sky News Australia ad last year. Linked to the Youtube upload below. Sorry for poor quality. Anyone else find your content in the media which you feel proud to see?

.... I actually lost interest before I even got started and with all these fees people talking about, makes my interest wane even further. ....

for all the whinging here about agencies, folk should look at reality before complaining about fees on etsy - these sites are not agencies - you sell your product at your price & they take a small cut (10-15%). you're looking at net $3-20+/sale vs the pittance from MS agencies. FAA has potential, but there's no SEO - i make just enough (barely) to justify their annual 'pro' fee

If these are the fees, then I'd happily pay these. Sites need their income of course. Fees were not the initial reason why I haven't published the store anyway. Just been busy doing other things.
