DepositPhotos / Re: Newbie at a disadvantage....
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:48 »
I think the idea is that someone with 10,000 average (but sellable) photos is more serious about stock than someone with just a few really good photos.

Someone with just a few photos, no matter how good, may be picking the accidentally good images out of their thousands of unsellable vacation and family photos.  Just a punter who thinks they can make a few bucks off of the pictures they have taken anyway, without having to put much effort into it.

This is about how many pictures and being serious, not quality? How did I make that mistake. If I have a big car, waer expensive clothes and use a expensive camera, I'm a better photographer. Can you show us your portfolio I can see what a true professional microstocker does. I want to be as wonderful as you.
None of what you are saying has any bearing on the subject.  The point is that Hotwalkn was making a statement about the best agency based on only 4 sales which could be very misleading to anybody reading it.

You can also get invites from certain people that are already part of it.

i must confess, the "we might" bit is a touch arrogant, but I guess v much in keeping with the industry.
I don't think that is arrogant.  They are obviously just going to start with select people and that is just warning you that the fact that you send a link doesn't mean that you will be accepted.  I will be gutted if they don't accept me but that's life.  Their site, their rules.

I think they're done now (no updates in the last ~3 hours). It wasn't a BME but it was decent (and nearly 3 times the original "total" that appeared to be the end of it)
Yes same here, but this month at IS is dire.

Someone is telling porky pies with the 50000+ vote.

Under mor than 1500 less than 2000 for me
Yes I thought the same except maybe Yuri.

Is anybody having problems uploading to SS using ftp.   I am getting an error message as soon as I try to add files for uploading? All other sites are uploading ok

I found their website upload to be much improved and less buggy than FTP.  :o
Yes I've also been using the web site uploader since then and am really impressed with it.

fotographer  -  i  guess  you're  right.  I  can't  help  getting  excited  over  sales.  All  those  that  gave  me  negeitivity  are  just  jealous  and  petty.
To tell you the truth I don't think that it is jealous people giving you negative votes but people that sell thousands of images a month and  don't want to see a new post for each of your mile stones.  I'm sure that nobody would have a problem with you having one thread that you can add to everytime you get excited about anything.  Your enthusiasm is quite endearing but keep it all in one place and then people won't be so negative.

Newbie Discussion / Re: A growing mess, what's your filing system?
« on: February 21, 2013, 06:50 »
I have one folder with all my images in it.  Everytime I have a batch to upload I make a folder for each site with the new images in each one.  As I upload to each site I delete the images out of the relevant folder.   For places like DT that don't like similars I leave some from each batch in the folder and gradually feed them up with other batches.

Dan, just a bit of advise as you seem to be getting negative comments and votes.  Don't start a new thread everytime you want to report a sales statistic but just keep adding onto one thread.  I know it's hard to curb your enthusiasm when you first get started in selling but if everybody started threads for every little mile stone it would make chaos in the forums.

2.8% of total earnings from microstock

- 43 times less than SS in terms of earnings
- BigStock (0.91%)
- SS (38.9%)
I make about 15% on BS compared to SS

561
I sold about 10 files less there than I did at GL last year, but GL made me 4 times as much. I sold about half at my own site as what I did at BS, but my own site made 6 times more. So, I have no desire to sell even more files there and get paid even less.
I sold had nearly 20 times more dls at BS than I did at GL last year.

562
I wouldn't reach 50k a year even if they added together the SS and BS sales.

I can sign in fine, but the image I have uploaded via FTP yesterday do not show up in the submitting process. When I look in the FTP folder they are still all there.
I've had no problem at all today.  I've uploaded images on the site upload and finished them off and they are now in pending.

less than 200
Really surprised at this. How come so few for you?  Don't you have many images there?

Wow stunning work.  It's almost a crime that images like that are selling for pennies.
You have to realize that the artist uploaded them to DT in the first place...

If I created such nice images I would NOT upload them to any micros.
Yes that is exactly the point I was making.

Before reading this thread, I thought nobody could be as bad as Peebert.  I now see how wrong I was.

What are you talking about? Peebert was as sharp as two giant sharp things and very entertaining. It was a shame when he left. The IS forums in those days were a vibrant source of wit, repartee and useful information. Quel contraste.
To an extent I agree with what you are saying as he made me laugh many times but he could also be extremely nasty.

I found a work around until they fix it.   Put the images through for review and then go and attatch the releases from there.  For some reason the saved releases aren't showing in the unfinished section but they are showing in the pending section.

Other than the EL, sales seem to have been extremely low last month, about a third of a typical month. Possibly because I have not uploaded there for months.

Just got over 40$ one day on just 3 files. Does anybody know what that could be?  I thought that it was just a straight 25c per sale or are there ELS or something?

I received an EL today from Thinkstock for $27.59, Extended License Image Pack 25.
You can check the amounts against the Royalty Schedule here, click on Partner Program

@ Jo Ann, yours looks to be a Thinkstock Extended License Image Pack 10

Thank you for that.  Mine is a Thinkstock Extended License Image Pack 1 (whatever that is!!!)

Hi All,

Sorry, we had a technical problem on the upload end - as you all noticed! FTP was fine, but the web-app wasn't behaving.

I'd recommend you try re-uploading if you had trouble uploading earlier. They should work properly now.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble!

Duncan
It's working fine now thank you :D

Newbie Discussion / Re: Refusals must be costing DT money.
« on: February 16, 2013, 15:47 »
One image that I put up to DT years ago was borderline focus.  Dt accepted it and Istock refused it.   It went on sell hundreds of times at DT and is one of my best sellers there.   You just have to accept that if an image is not perfect it can go either way with the agencies, some will accept it and some won't.   Just try and learn from your refusals and improve the quality until the day comes that virtually all images are accepted everywhere.

Thank you both.  I didn't even realize that you could see what had sold but just had a look around and found the info.   One image sold for just over 39$ so I'm guessing it's an EL.
