Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy to see that some of my photos are getting some exposure. I don't really get much due to the fact I'm not overly specialized or my photos in the past haven't had as much 'kick' as others.
Hopefully one day I will be the Photog of the week somewhere

I was/am using CS2's HDR thingy. Seems okay. I tried photomerge and did not like it too much. I guess I'd prefer to do it manually but really not willing to take too much of the time unless its a print of some sort and not a stock photo.

I've been experimenting with HDR because I've been shooting some drapery on windows with huge dynamic range as well as night shots with fairly large dynamic range. I find that it works okay, but sometimes I get these lines (like CA, but not quite) that follow where the dark meets the light. I was using the 17-40L so lens quality isn't a problem.
Is this issue easily fixed? Am I doing something incorrect? I can't post any just yet because I'm not at home, so I hope someone know what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance. I've learned a lot of photoshop over the past 14 months, and I don't want to stop learning. Its really fun to create/fix.

Well it would be really nice for iStock to get something easier to work with, but I really don't see the point especially since they keep rejecting everything now. I had a really good streak going where I would get images accepted, but now I guess they brought on some really grumpy inspectors and they just reject everything (which is a continuation from my other thread where they weren't taking into consideration the situation that the photo was taken).
Oh well....next batch

Well, I don't really know why, but there's some inconsistency in the iStock process with regards to a certain set of photos.
I uploaded some photos of action shots taken in an ice hockey arena and a lot of them get accepted and some of them don't, which leads me to believe that some reviewers understand the situation and some don't.
Its funny because a lot of the photos are actually very good considering that I have to shoot ISO 640 or higher with a 30D (SS has accepted virtually all of them - so they understand the noise issue) to obtain a fast enough shutter speed. There are very few cameras that will be able to do noise free work in arenas, and its a shame because I'd like to be able to send a note saying that. To top it off, anything that does get accepted sells well, and has the potential to be good for me.
What do you think? Should noise (and that forsaken word "artifacting") be based on situation? I do, because sometimes its just gonna be there.
PS - I downsize my images from 8MP to at least 4 for iStock (unfortunately I won't be able to get into the Large price range) to reduce the artifacting.

I also have the Microsoft Photo Info Tool, perhaps I should check the settings or something because it never pops up with the information in it. It takes soooo much longer.

Just wondering if there is any way to get the uploader program to read the tagged JPEG data because its a real pain to continuously have to re-put it in.
Otherwise, I guess I have to stick with what I'm doing.

Not a stupid question. Highly reasonable actually.
I'm not a techie, but I can see a few issues that may need to be overcome. First, Canon sensors are CMOS and thats how the circuitry is built to understand the data. Not sure how Kodak's sensors are.
The second is the design and the contacts and such. The probably will not align at all unless its a Kodak sensor designed for Canon cameras.
Lastly, the algorithms are designed for 6MP on that specific camera, so how they will react to a different sensor may affect performance.
In my opinion, why go with an inferior Kodak sensor when Canon makes the best sensors for noise on the planet (sidenote: new MKIII sensor is phenomenal at ISO 3200. See Rob Galbraith's review and his shots)

Thanks for the invite.
I'd just like to say that I'm not sure if all these new sites is all that great and I personally will not be submitting to more sites. I find it a waste of time to submit in hopes of success. The only new site I'm looking to get into is Corbis - and thats even a question mark because I don't know their terms - but you know that they will try and make a good splash.

I don't really know what it is, but my earnings at iStock have gotten completely destroyed. Last month had earnings of $90 (yes, its not a lot of money, but its slowly helping to pay for camera equipment) and now its only at $13.57 for the month so far. Thats horrible and disappointing because I'd be having a stellar month otherwise, even considering Fotolia's trainwreck.
In addition, I got accepted to Alamy (first try, all 10 good to go) and that was really cool. Hopefully I make some sales there but I really don't know how well I'm going to do there.

Something you might want to read. Was posted by Chad Bridwell in another forum:
Hello Everyone,
As many of you know Fotolia V2 is finally online. It has been a rough and a very risky release for us. Oleg (our president) and many of our engineers did not sleep for 4 days. Things did not turn as we had planned and we have faced some serious issues to that still must be resolved. During the migration we had among other issues, a huge database server defect making it difficult to localize. A migration is not as easy as some might think it is not just a copy of data from one server to another, the entire Fotolia system has been changed. The errors have been extremely complicated to fix. There are still bugs, missing images, missing IPTC data, and search problems, but we will try to get everything fixed in the next few days. We decided also to stop uploads for a couple of days to solve all issues with speed and to have the site working for buyers. We plan to allow uploads soon and release new features specifically for photographers in the next few days.
In many ways what you currently see is the bare minimum of V2. We needed to get back online today for customers after 4 days of being offline. But we are far from done with V2 full functionality. Things will be deployed everyday.
It is interesting to note that even with the delays and many bugs Fotolia has had over 10,000 downloads today. We have also had an article in Techcrunch and many other news outlets about the release.
Please be patient and allow us to win back your trust. We hope this is just the beginning!

no i'm saying most designers need to get acquainted with the system...it happened last time and there was a thread on another forum...and sales were back eventually...sucks that they have to keep tinkering with a search that seemed to be okay in the first place

its not the season at all...not for iStock because i had been doing fine last year too....its their stupid changes and until the designers understand how to use the search again, sales will suck

How about if you "sell" (a penny?) the rights to the photo to a family member and they decide to put them up on other sites under their name?
Technically they are not your photos anymore, so its a possible avenue to explore

$3.00? yup $3.00! thats how much i've made in 7 days there, which is well below the $100 i made last month there. What . is going on?
Stupid tinkering with the system all the time

im a big keyboard shortcut guy so having the buttons on the pad are awesome because i use those as if they are my keyboard shortcuts (ie. cut, delete, paste, enter, the usual stuff u would use
the pen acts like a mouse - double click and right click...and for the internet i use the buttons for forward, backward and just whatever

6x8 is my size. Its pretty fancy and I love it.
I haven't set the buttons to my liking yet, but the whole keystroke thing is wonderful.
