Particularly those who have to cower in anonymity because they fear reprisal from their agents for speaking their mind ... I'm curious who is the one "cowering in anonymity" when we all know (and respect!) Sean but you have no website, portfolio links or anything else to identify YOU? Something about a pot and a kettle comes to mind, but in this case the kettle isn't even black!

You should chat up the printer to find out where (s)he get images and then blow the whistle!

+Another Maybe you could give iStock some pointers on how to roll out site changes without it being a disaster!

I know that this has been discussed here before, but I just received a request for usage of one of my images with the following criteria: (1) year, unlimited USA use in the following: trade ads, trade and consumer collateral, convention panels, posters, premiums and all electronic media. The image in question is already being sold as micro and the buyer is aware of this. How much is reasonable to charge? BTW, I would rather come in a bit low and make some cash than price myself out of the game. Thanks!

Do you mean that anything between commas is treated as one keyword? For example beach, rio de janeiro, water would be 3 keywords, right? If so, that is good news!

Has anyone called Rick? If we all call him a few times a day his life could get pretty miserable pretty fast.

I stopped uploading when the announcement was made and they won't get any of my new stuff at their insulting royalty rates.

I've been following the thread on cinema5d.com talking about this. I'm in the "it's a hoax" category.

6 "invalid transactions" in the past 2 days so far. Maybe when all of this is over, we'll all be able to buy our images on DVD from some pirate to keep as a backup

You have to be kidding. Shooting at f2.8 (or wider) is virtually useless for 98% of shots (especially for stock) because the DoF is so abysmally short. you might be better off with a prime 200/ 2.0 or something I believe that Matt said that he was shooting wedding receptions and wildlife wide open. It's pretty tough in both situations to shoot with a prime... I know it's a shock to some of us, but there are more reasons than just stock to pick up our cameras!

Don't forget that curved image sensors that mimic the human eye are right around the corner. That one's going to be a game-changer for sure!

But I have a lot of years experience in graphic design, and most recently web design, and I really like that work and want to continue on with it. Consequently, my photography is only a part-time thing. It has paid for all of the equipment I have purchased, plus helps out every month with the bills. I have gotten out of it exactly what I had intended. That sums up my experience almost exactly! The only difference is that I started in web and am now expanding into other areas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! If anyone is looking for something to get me, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS would be a good place to start and I don't even mind if it's late! Hope you all get everything you wish for!

So far I have found images from Alamy, Getty, Istock, Fotolia and SXC.hu (is SXC a free dl place?). Yep, 100% free. It's actually where the site that got me started in stock all those years ago.

You must be lucky to have such a great local camera shop! Where I live (a fairly small city) there is only one and they specialize in Nikon and are VERY expensive. Being a small business owner, I'm all about supporting other local businesses, but when I can save hundreds on a purchase, that's what I have to do. It is nice to be able to walk into the store for returns or problems, though.
As far as refurbs go, the computer that I work on every day is refurbished and I've never had a problem with refurbished equipment of any kind.

Your work is indeed beautiful, but I agree with the low commercial value. That is one of the biggest challenges most stock photographers face when starting out. The photos that sell the best are the ones that have an easily recognizable concept behind them. Your photo of trimming the bush has a good concept to it. You need to try to think more about why a designer would buy your image. Your photos don't have to have the "factory-made" look, but your images have to illustrate a concept. Good luck!
