I have a 20D and a 5D MK1 (not II). The jump in image quality from the 20D to the 5D is insane. I can only imagine that the MK II is even more so. If you can hold out till you have enough $$ for the 5D MKII, I would say, go for it.

Seamless white background set up. Some wigs and costumes. Seems like a pretty easy shoot compared to a lot of his other work.

Thanks for the tips. I think they just dont want the car as the main subject. It seems (in my opinion) that cropping would only lower the value of the photo, but I guess if that is the only way to get them accepted that is the only option.
You are dead wrong in your thinking - context is far more important than the crop. Need proof? Just take a look at the most downloaded images for 'car' on iStock: click here.
I am quite surprised to see the shots of the Dodge Ram and the Mini Cooper still in the collection. The cars are both very distinctive. The one of mine that was pulled was a Pontiac convertable (also sold as a Saturn) that is certainly less iconic than a Mini.

Was she up on the hood in a bikini?
No bikini... But she was sitting on the car in some frames.

iStock actually removed one of my car shots. There was a model in the shot & she was the main subject, but The type of car was still too unique and recognizabe for their comfort.

Today was a BDE for me because of three xlarge sales... But overall, yeah it is slow. On top of it being spring break, the Jewish Passover holiday also begins tonight. Lots of Israelis on vacation too.

How about using the somewhat more generic term 'girl'. This can be a young woman as well as a teen or a child. I'm sure you would need to DA it though during the upload process.

I wouldn't know, I've never had a successful file My current highest grossing file has earned $40.25 with 23 downloads. That file's upload date is Dec. 07 2008. If it contunes to sell at the current rate then it is on track to be a successful image. I would say that any given image should earn around $US 100.00 to be considered moderately successful. That said, I believe that this is a numbers game. 1000 semi-successful images will earn you the same as 100 really successful images. Since I have never figured out exactly which images will take off, it makes sense to me to have a large well diversified portfolio to make any real money. There are exceptions to that, but then there always are. PS: I don't have a very diversified portfolio, but I am working on it.

To the OP,
My bad, I re-read your post and you were talking about the top providers, of which I certainly am not one.
Possibly a slight change in the best match is causing a shift giving broader exposure to other members?

My March was a BME and April is also starting out strong for me.
What chart are you looking at?

Ive never really had a problem coming up with ideas, quite the opposite actually. I keep lists of ideas so when I have time to shoot I always have lots of ideas to choose from.
I also have a list. Unfortunately my list involves so many props, models and locations that I can't afford to shoot any of my concepts!

Ah yes, the economy - that makes sense.
The news is scary these days! I find myself turning it off. Maybe I should change my avatar to an ostrich
An ostrich, great idea Lisa. I find myself reading, watching and listening to all the dour news even as I try not to. Its sorta like seeing a train wreck. You don't want to look, but there is not denying the fascination of of all. I think I'll go in my back yard and start digging a hole to put my head in. That may be the best escape available!

Agree. Alien Bees/White Lightning are considered to be prosumer lighting. If you want true professional lighting, go with Profoto. It's the brand Annie Liebowitz and other top photographers use.Right, Annie Liebowitz also uses Hasselblad, Mamiya and Nikon. I guess that means Canons are prosumer. Oh, and there is this one kinda-sorta professional photographer named Dave Hill (maybe you have head of him) that is known to use Paul C Buff strobes right along side his Profoto ring flash. The White Lightning strobe is cleary visible in this video: http://www.davehillphoto.com/behind_the_scenes/atreyu.movhttp://www.davehillphoto.com/

Do you have photos of the property and the studio? What is the square footage of the home and what are the dimensions of the studio? Also, what size lot is the property on & is the area zoned for a business?
I'm afraid that you left a lot of details out of your original post.
Lastly, of course what is the asking price for the proporty?

I submit to at least 50 sites. File sizes total a few petabytes. I bought a brand new black Hasselblad. I gave it away, it was just a fad. I have a mansion but forget the price Ain't never been there, they tell me its nice My Lamborghini does one-ninety-five I lost my license, so now I dont drive I have a limo, ride in the back I lock the doors in case I'm attacked So I got me an office, all my photos on the wall Just leave a message, maybe I'll call Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through I cant complain but sometimes I still do It's tough to handle this fortune and fame Everybody's so different, I haven't changed They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time I keep on goin' guess I'll never know why Life's been good to me so far
Credit where credit is due, dude

Flames? Is this something unique to IS? I do try to mind my own business but I can't stand it any longer ... what are y'all talking about?
Yes Warren, flames are unique to IS. 100+ downloads gets a yellow flame 500+ get red flames 1,000 + get blue There are a couple more, but I honestly cannot remember what they are.

Thanks Sean, that is the sort of info I was looking for. So it does seem that it can take some images a year or even years to get there, but they can still make it.
Tell me, is it your experience that once a file does hit flames that it generally continues to sell well? in other words, do flaming images seem to get a higher placement in the best match?
