After a while it becomes a chore trying to find any tidbits of cheer or usefulness amongst the soup of negativity on the forum - which is why I skim through these days at IS and elsewhere (including here) Also, the same names gobbing off with a comment on EVERY SINGLE THREAD is tiresome.
PS. If anyone knows how to block that muppet-brained poodle-loving twerp over at SS, I'd be grateful

At least you don't have to put up with that pudding head on SS with his puerile politics and incessant pimping of images - marketing for dummies.

I have submitted some "fine art" work to companies that specialise in cards, posters etc but with no experience in this field I'm confused about their royalties. Anyone have any experience? Eg. one company states royalty will be 10% of the wholesale print price on anything from a framed wall image to large-scale canvass pieces for offices and business premises. Another I'm waiting to hear from will pay $350 for three year world rights (greetings cards).
On the face of it the 10% royalty on the sale of a massive canvass print for an office foyer (assuming its per sale) sounds better than giving away rights for $350. But in the absence of understanding I'm reaching out here.
Cheers,

not sinking but it's always been a slow boat for me. sales seem to come in bursts - but it makes me wonder when three sales in a day can push me over a thousand places up on the relative rank.

Yes - they are still accepting poor quality images. Do a search on food, newest first and there is stuff getting through with shadows, underexposure, poor composition, too much white space. Or studio shot people on white with blown highlights on the edge of arms and faces, underexposed faces, hair that disappears into a black background or is frazzled by overexposure of the white background. I just don't get it.

Yay - 2 sales in May. Boo - earned 2 euros. At this rate I'll pay back the time I invested in uploading sometime in April 2017
Rubbish.

The Emperor's New Clothes is a favourite story of mine. Anyway, it's worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it and we all know the art world is full of fools easily parted from their money. I'm a Pollock fan but my girlfriend calls him a scribbler. She likes Cartier-Bresson, but I prefer Nan Golding. The fights we've had. Jeez.

Anyone else experiencing connection issues. Based in the UK I've not been able to get the forum or home pages to load properly since Friday 27th. Cleared my cache, deleted browser history etc. I can get access to Shutterbuzz but the contributor site loads partially then dies on me. Thought I'd try here before raising a ticket. Cheers.

Definitely going to move into it but I need facts, not opinions (no disrespect). Anyone know of any sites/forums out there, besides those on microstock, that deal with footage and the marketplace?

i've worked in sales for a large part of my life and if i'd given that response instead of trying to leverage something positive out of the situation for both the customer and the company, i would have been in deep claggy.

$1.12 earned for one sale in just over a year. I stopped uploading there six months ago and haven't seen any reason to do so.....yet.

"Lets not forget the FACT that they are STILL accepting Huge quantities of technically inferior images from some submitters while expecting technical image perfection from others."
True enough. I've just seen some new food images that look like they were lit with a desk lamp. Really poor work.

Not for me. My acceptance rate at IS is now higher than SS.
Also, sales at IS are starting to catch up to SS. Never thought that would happen.

Shutterstock now rejects everything! That can not be right!
They're rejecting everything that is common and over-done, and I'm all for it. I'd have a hard time getting an icon set approved these days, but for good reason. How many of the same thing does any one agency need?
Besides, we've been getting away with murder at Shutterstock for years. They had the most lenient approvals, and the overall quality of the collection suffered because of it. I say this new, stricter policy is overdue.
True but they're now rejecting work from many serious contributors that meets much higher quality standards than older files in the collection. They probably don't want to lose their 15m images byline - but it makes business sense (to me) to clear out the crap that isn't selling first and judge new work on it's merit...not because they have a glut of images.

Been submitting at Dreamstime for one year as of this week. Average is 0.78, BME in January 1.09, currently at .68 for April but reckon I will do better than that - DL's always seem to pick up in the second half of the month.
Less than an hour after writing....now back up to .78 for the month thanks to an 11 credit sale on a level 3 image. The power of positive thinking.

AAAAGGHHH - Doing my nut in right now. Two batches in a row rejected for LCV but most of them accepted on appeal. And now a third batch thrown out for LCV. What is going on over there?? Not bothered if they are being tougher, raising the bar, trying to improve the quality of their collection - nothing wrong with that....but let's have some consistency and connectivity with the contributors please. I can't afford to submit everything twice to Shutterstock because they got prissy all of a sudden.
If they want a better collection fair enough, clear out the many thousands of crap images they accepted over the years and haven't sold or sold very well. Yes some of my stuff would fall into that category but I think I'm shooting better work now....and so does IS and Getty....who are historically much pickier. Time for a cup of tea and a rethink but it's tough to know how to readjust to this new Shutterstock when the goalposts keep moving.

No marketing = no business. Good grief.....I may have asked this before but do they have a salesforce working the phones to drum up new business? I hate companies (including the one I work for) who sit tight on their bottom line wringing their hands when they should be working aggressively to trade ahead of their competitors in a tight market. Man, my employers are getting their arses kicked by Asian go-getters right now.
Maybe the sell-off is a sound theory but who is the buyer?

Sorry FT but I don't get it. I sent it to my 19 year old nephew and he doesn't get it either. His interesting observation was that this was probably written by some old marketing fart in a striped shirt and braces trying to be hip.

Don't Care. Besides which it would cost money for an agency to set up and as we know, anything that hits their wallet is generally taken out of ours.

Just curious...do these agencies have sales teams? There is plenty in the announcement about increased marketing but anyone with direct sales experience knows that marketing doesn't amount to wren s**t without people working the phones and meeting face to face with the bean counters.

Go for it. In pure mercenary terms it's another revenue stream and if you're independant.....entry into the Big 4 is a must. I reckon the problem you have is only temporary and (as already mentioned) part of the bugged out site we have to deal with at present.

They need to replace their oompah loompahs with real people who know more than a smidgeon about IT infrastructure and service.
