Looking to buy this lens, what do you all think?  Any experiences?

As well, I'm looking to buy it from BHPhotovideo.com.  Now, has anyone had any experiences with them.  Reason being this:  I'm going to have them ship my product to my grandmother's house in Florida who is coming back to Canada next month.  Two reasons for this:  I'm looking for a way to avoid shipping long distances and any surprise duties at the border (since my grandmother will have been there a long period of time, she can bring back a lot of stuff duty-free).  To the point, if I have problems with them, how good are they with customer service since I'm in Canada.  I will be purchasing the USA warranty.

Thanks again,

Joseph

Call me crazy, but its been forever and I can't access the submit page on 123RF.  Am I doing something wrong?  It keeps telling me to come back in an hour

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Future Big 5
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:46 »
iStock will most likely remain tops for a long time...or top 2 or 3 for sure.  Getty will whip out some stuff hopefully in the near future that will make it better for contributors but as for the price, they charge a premium but they have some of the best photographers under exclusivity agreements - which is a rare resource that SS or DT doesn't have.  Andresr is one hell of a photographer but he himself and Phil Date and a few others cannot give enough pictures to keep a site afloat.

From recent observation, iStock is gaining a lot of momentum lately and I'm thinking of going exclusive eventually.

Thanks for your reply Steve

I'm not sure if I will upload just yet as those are not categories of which I do very often, but I am considering making it a priority to try and get some of those types of photos in my portfolio.  Hopefully that way I can submit some more photos that StockXpert will accept.

Is there a timeline on when the review of the process will be complete?

Now that Jupiter (I believe) has full control over StockXpert, will there be a massive marketing campaign to bring more buyers to the site?

Are some of the ridiculous rejections going to be relaxed?

Last question, I promise:

Are there any other changes that you can tell us about in the upcoming months to StockXpert that will make it more profitable for contributors?

- Reason I ask is that I have stopped submitting a lot of my stuff that gets accepted elsewhere because I hate - HATE - the rejection reason - We are not accepting such images and it seems to be many of the images I upload.

I would like to contribute more to StockXpert however I don't want to waste too much time uploaded and not getting anywhere with it (as bandwidth becomes an issue when u upload 500MB worth of photos to 5 or 6 sites and you only have 60 GB for the month).

New Sites - General / Re: New microstock site in town?

There are no preconceived notions...I made a statement.  Try getting a developing country anywhere in the world to better police something like fraud, and tell me how it goes.

Do not tell me statistics because statistics are just as biased as Al-Jazeera and CNN.

How many crimes are actually reported in Russia vs. England, Germany or the US?  There is less policing and resources available to those in less developed countries and the laws are much less strict.  So tell me again how you are supposed to compare apples with apples?

With US based/Canadian based agencies and/or some European ones, it is easier to find them, contact them, and report them to authorities if something does go awry.  I'm sorry if anyone was offended but there is a legacy of piracy and stuff like that from less developed areas of the world.

And Lizard, even if I was high, I would still be able to see past those figures.

This is why I don't post very often.

i hope no one gets offended, but I would never knowingly submit to a site based out of Eastern Europe without a very very good reputation and a history of good standing.  Too many hackers and too many identity thefts/fraud cases happen from that area of the world and its very important for me to know that my information is safe and not being abused

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT have nearly 40,000 files pending
« on: January 22, 2007, 17:34 »
the reviewers at DT definately monitor this site. after my last post I had a lot of reviewing done quickly.

rather than reject good images, they need to do what they promised: Clean the non-selling crap off their site.

No offense to anyone, but DT is full of BS.  Some of their rejections are complete crap and this "we have too much" garbage they feed photographers is pathetic because they end up having 3/4 as many pictures as SS and IS.  Logically, if you have the same contributors at each site (which by and large is the case) then the sites have approximately the same types of pictures, and if SS doesn't have too many of a particular type of photograph, how can DT who has less?

PS - 1 million photos isn't much, so I don't know why they are making such a big deal.  As well, I do hope they start cleaning up their junk like iStock is sort of doing (somehow its preventing them from reviewing quicker ;))

I'm upset because I have a total of $2.50 in downloads this month from them and I have 207 photos up.  They've also rejected 90% of what I've thrown their way - most of which has been accepted by SS

Off Topic / Is anyone interested in buying a Canon EF lens?
« on: January 08, 2007, 20:32 »
The lens is the EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 USM.

I am looking for $175 CDN for it and would like to get rid of it since I bought the 70-200 f/4L.  Is anyone interested?

Thanks,
Joseph

I think that yes, the trend will be that agencies will bump their prices to generate more revenue.  This will become increasingly significant when the industry has matured and there is less room to grow by attracting more customers.    Another reason is that the funky players that offer nothing to photographers/designers are being dumped and the 'cream' and best managed corporations remain.

I don't know how immediate it will be and whether these impacts will speed it up, but you can definitely look in that direction.

One last interesting feeling is that we are going to end up seeing regular $4 to $5 sales instead of 50 cents.  My thought is because the sites know that designers can pay for this especially since they once paid $500 - so 99% off the previous price paid is pretty awesome still for them, although I'm really hoping that something good comes out of this and photographers begin to get a larger cut.

Ya a complete rip. RIGHT!  I'm gonna give up photos, yet only ask for 70 US for an account where my photos can be downloaded back for free and put on other sites.

Brilliant!

Thanks Leaf

Honestly I think its a win-win for a designer who might want to use it and its a win for me because I get to cash out.  I am taking a bit of a hit because I'm selling at a discount but thats just the way it goes.  People do this with cell phone plans here in Canada when they don't want to pay the contract fee to cancel, so why not do the same thing (except the fee is not getting paid with LO)

LuckyOliver.com / Buyout my LuckyOliver Account
« on: November 27, 2006, 09:13 »
Hello designers or anyone interested,

I have $64 in accumulated cash and 130+ tokens in my LuckyOliver account and I would like to sell that off to a designer looking for a deal.  I am asking $70 US as the total value of the tokens and cash is over $100 which is a savings of 30%.

The reason being is that LO refuses to cash me out before $100 and I'm in desperate need of the money, and I don't foresee at any time soon that I will be reaching $100.  I don't really want to sell at a discount, but I understand it would be necessary for whoever wants to buy the funds in the account.

What will happen is that I will ask for a Paypal transfer, and I will delete my photos on the account, change the name to yours and give you my log-in and password.  Then the account is all yours to change however you please.

I would really like to do this soon with Christmas coming up, so please post if you are interested.

As well, my StockXpert account has $14.50 in it.  If anyone is interested in that account, please let me know.  I am willing to sell both accounts for $82 US.

Thanks,
Joseph Gareri

Nope, actually I've had my best month ever on FT.  2 EL sales and its the best out of all the stock sites so far with a few days left.  Ironically, its IS giving chase with 300 fewer photos  :D

Microstock News / iStock News is annoying
« on: October 18, 2006, 00:14 »
hey everyone!

I'm still kicking.  I just wanted to point out that iStock News is a really annoying member of this community and really isn't doing much but clogging the boards (in my opinion).  We as a community bring up stuff on our own and now every once in a while we get iStock admin posting stuff that rarely gets any activity.

I've been quiet as I've been studying and back at school and looking for full-time employment.  But I do hope to be more present.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cameras / Lenses / Microdrives (6GB) for sale
« on: September 16, 2006, 12:26 »
Hey everyone,

Here's the deal with this post.  You all know I'm not some sort of ad guy who comes into every forum trying to sell something.  I've been part of this forum for almost 6 months now and I've never tried to sell anything.  The reason I'm trying to sell this is because I want a few microdrives for my Digital Rebel but I need to buy 20 from a distributor here in Canada.  It will cost WAY too much to buy 20 without having them sold already, but if other people here want one or two I will be happy to give them to you for my cost + shipping fees.

I can get Hitachi 6GB Microdrives (brand new, not stolen or anything like that) from a well-known Canadian distributor ($1 billion in sales last year - Synnex Canada) for $120 CDN each (here in Canada they retail for as much as $230).  Is anyone interested?

I apologize if this post annoys anyone.  If Tyler or anyone doesn't want me to post anything like this again, I will not do it in the future.

Thanks,
Joseph

$81 in piggy

Its complicated to explain.  There are a few people who have downloaded quite a few from me so that they could decorate their sites and stuff but I got about $15-$20 that I don't know where they came from and a few dollars are from me downloading my own pictures becauase I didn't know that they were saying you can't. When I got to read that blog it was all good.
