GLStock / Re: GL Stock Seriously??

Hi Phil,

I used your little pop up support button in the bottom right which included my email.  I used that twice with a positive response, so if you didnt get that, you might want to check your system.

I dont often look at the messages link here, but I do see one message from you.  Id consider dropping your minimum because at this point it might take me until 2025 to reach whatever it is.

so to see the only negative feedback by comparably low or little to no sales for some members of these forums surprises me, as I always felt the expectations of what GL produces for many contributors pales in comparison to the likes of several billion dollar corporations, and many other large companies.

Well, I used to have pretty regular sales.  I havent had one since January, I think.  So going from something to nothing is going to get negative feedback.

If the images are RM with Getty, you shouldnt post them.

Thanks.  Im really uninspired to upload my legacy people images because I waste all the time assigning multiple and different releases to all of them and then 75% get rejected even though all the releases have been accepted before.

No, they wont send you anything.  You just have to come up with it from your records.  And if youre in the IS, they should keep %5.

My uploads have been light and this month is the worst since the second month after I started in 2013.

Hello all those who have taken the time to read this.

A few locations I thought that would be worth a visit such as national parks and such require permits for "Commercial photography" but reading the forms it seems geared more toward like stages big shoots with a team etc.

So my question is, is taking photos of/on this location and perhaps putting a few on stock sites such as adobe stock, alamy etc for some extra income considered "Commercial photography"? In which case should I be purchasing the permit/applying for permission beforehand? Or am I other-thinking things and being silly

At least in the US, most people agree that your initial thought is correct.  It's permission for teams and props and such.  Just taking some non-invasive photos and uploading them for stock is fine.

I agree with all of your points with the exception of Flickr. I've always thought it would make more sense for a fledgling startup with any investment capital to speak of  to make a run for one of the low earner agencies. Infrastructure, contributor base and at least some customers already in place. Build from there, rebrand and restructure as necessary more along the lines of what you outlined above. At least you are not starting from scratch.

Like GL?

If it doesnt have a USP for buyers, its not worth worrying about.

You should have a property release authorizing you to be there.

Creative Market takes account security very seriously, so we thoroughly investigate any issues that are brought to our attention, including cases where shop owners are concerned about potentially fraudulent sales in their shop. Prior to the closure of your account, we had received no correspondence from you regarding these suspicious transactions from users that all have spammy names and usernames (such as jsadkashdashd and lkasjdksadas). Due to this breach in our agreement, we have chosen to withhold the remaining earnings per our terms (Shop Owners, Section 5):

Sweet jeebus, that's their stinking job.  WTH watches transactions?

Newbie Discussion / Re: NYC, Manhattan photos for stock
« on: July 16, 2018, 13:02 »
Hi everyone. I came here for advice, because I have no experience in the field of stock photography, but have some idea. I will be in New York for a year and I can buy a camera, maybe also a drone, make maximum photos of Manhattan and put it in stock markets. but I do not know if such photos are claimed and will investments be justified? How many photos will it make about the profit? Is there anyone who took pictures of New York?

Millions of people _live_ there and many have been shooting stock photos for years.  Maybe you can find a niche and just saturate it.

Lol, surprise!  I guess I'll go from 100% of nothing to 50% of nothing.

Here's the whole thing:
You have been asking us what we can do to drive more Marketplace sales and we hear you. After a great start, commissions growth has slowed, and we need to do something about it.

During the first couple years, Marketplace sales grew quickly. Over the same period, the cost of hosting millions of media files, reviewing content, and operating the contributor platform also increased. Because all our revenue comes from subscriptions, we started prioritizing our Member Library in order to build a thriving business that could absorb the growing Marketplace expenses. This led to contributor sales flattening out as we promoted Member Library content over the Marketplace.

To get Marketplace sales back on track, we need to make a change that may sting in the short term. We've examined all options, and it's clear that we must adjust our commission structure in order to align our business needs with the needs of our contributor community.

Beginning August 1st, you will see a 50/50 commission structure applied to all your sales on both the video and image Marketplaces. Our Contributor License Agreement will be updated to reflect this change as well.

We know this isn't ideal, but an equal partnership between Storyblocks and our contributors will allow us to better promote your Marketplace content, and ultimately drive sales growth.

Since launching our video marketplace in 2015, and images in 2017, we've worked to be the most contributor-friendly platform for creative content. We have been proud to offer 100% commission these last three years as a sign of our commitment. We are incredibly grateful for the support you've shown in return, which has far exceeded anything we could have imagined.

We know this change will impact your earnings over the short term, and for that we apologize. Our goal is to meet and exceed historical earnings as quickly as possible through several new initiatives aimed at boosting sales and improving our contributor experience.

In the months ahead, you can expect:

    Shorter approval times
    New portfolio pages
Increased promotion of your content to Marketplace buyers

Quite simply, we don't have a business without your trust and support. We know this is a big change, and we hope that the relationship we've built these last three years - in tandem with the new initiatives rolling out over the summer and fall - will reassure you that our dedication to the contributor community is as strong as ever.

If you have any questions at all, we're here for you as always. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].

All the best,
TJ Leonard
CEO, Storyblocks

It's possible to earn $100 selling images on shutterstock per month. I earn approximately $30. :(

Sure.  Do 3.33 times what youre doing now.

647
No, there were actual spam links in two posts.

648
I've pretty much given up on uploading the rest of my archive of released images because they've gotten pretty ridiculous about minutia on the releases.

649
I qualify for the over $500 part (not by much though... have made $616 this year), but how do I know if I've qualified for the 'first 2,000' part... any ideas?

How did you split out the video?

Agree, a countdown or something would be nice.

This is great news.
Though I have not received any email (till now) but I am sure this is a great step in contributor and adobe relation.

I already own CC subscription which will expire next year. If any contributor is qualified then how they will be rewarded with existing subscription active?

The answer is in the FAQ Mat linked to.
