Software - General / Re: scanning resolution on flatbed scanner
« on: October 21, 2010, 14:17 »
When you open the Image Size dialogue box, uncheck the Resample Image box. Then make the Resolution change.  That's the difference between Resizing and Resampling.

Here's the tutorial:

General Stock Discussion / Re: How old are you?
« on: October 21, 2010, 11:10 »
I'm 62.   Can't envision a day when I won't be creative.  It's just part of me.  I do it even when there is no pay.

Thanks! Very helpful.

As I said in my original post, there is no way to contact them. The supplied email is bogus.

I had a customer contact me asking why he had to buy my photos, when they are offered for free at a website called free-extras.com. Sure enough, there they were. I tried contacting the website, but the contact email is not a valid email address. Any ideas what my options are? These photos are for sale on the Big 7 microstocks.

These are the photos:

I remove all metadata (except keywords) before submitting to anybody. It eliminates a lot problems.

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Truncated file

I've had success opening truncated files by doing this: Open the file using GraphicConverter. Then you can save it however you wish.

General Stock Discussion / Clipping Path Lie?
« on: March 11, 2010, 10:06 »
Can anyone identify if any of the top 9 sites remove my clipping paths? I include the term in my titles and descriptions, because I know designers are more apt to choose a photo that is less work for them to isolate. I've read that SS used to remove them, but now includes them.

I don't want to claim my photos have one, if the stock site removes it.

I've given up on ProStockMaster. They were good about a year and a half ago, but can't keep up with changing stock site requirements.

I still use it for keywording. Works well for that.

I am pretty sure that Yuri said he would go exclusive at istock if starting today ..

Can you provide a link to that quote? I'd love to read what he has to say about it.

If going exclusive is so tempting, then why hasn't Yuri Arcurs done it? I would think that he is a good role model to emulate. He seems to have figured out the business end of microstock.

Veer / Veer Lapse in Security
« on: December 13, 2009, 15:31 »
I went to upload a photo on Veer, and was suddenly taken to another member's Homepage. My upload appeared on his Workspace, so I clicked on Put Back. But I also had access to all of his photos, settings, & secure information. Of course that meant that I no longer had access to my Homepage. So I decided to Sign out, and then Sign in again. Now everything seems to be back to normal. While I had access to the other member's info, I got his email address, and notified him of the problem. That was weird!

Here's an idea. A search on iStock for "rake in the cash" or "rake in the money" turns up zero results. Get to shooting!

Illustrated business cliches seem to do pretty well.

That's about what I'm seeing too. My printouts are very true, so I'm pretty happy.

I predict this thread will go to the trash bin by the end of the day. Nothing to learn here. ;)

If the support staff feels abused, I doubt they will engage you here. Why would they? More abuse? Of course we can't help you because we have no idea what went on between you and the site.

Adobe Stock / Re: Is it Fotolia or Me??
« on: November 20, 2009, 14:38 »
You have to be careful not to upload similar images from the same photoshoot. They tend to take one and reject the others. I try to stagger such shots, by uploading months apart.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Need HELP - got a decision to make!
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:47 »
Several years ago, the EOS 1Ds Mark2, was considered the dream camera for shooting microstock, especially for Istock. It gave the highest resolution, so you could qualify for pay outs in the XXLarge category. I bought one, back then, and am extremely happy with it.
The only drawback, is that I shoot at f.16 a lot, and have to spend a lot of time retouching out the dust spots, on the sensor. It's just part of my workflow. The newer cameras supposedly handle this better, but I haven't tested them personally.

Maybe I'm confused, but I just bookmark the Dashboard page and Dashboard opens right up. No hoops to jump through. My computer keeps me signed in. (Mac, Safari)

Veer / Re: Improvements to Veer Marketplace

I think you need to improve the watermarking on Veer. It is inconsistent, and the transparency is overbearing on some of my more recent photos.

@Kngkyle,

Try this path: Dashboard>Statistics>>adjust "From week ending">Display as table>scroll down.

It loads pretty fast for me. I think it's the best display of earnings I've seen so far.
