@PB,

I like the ability to edit keywords and titles, to images that are 2 or 3 years old. Things change over time. Other sites encourage you to update your keywords to more current relevance. It shouldn't be written in stone at the time of submission. Also, you might come up with a better title, from suggestions on a forum.

Okay, please let us edit our accepted images. The Big Four let us do this. If you're going to compete with the big boys....

And oh yeah, the site's looking great!

Macs: Cutting edge, innovative, elegant.
PCs: Good enough to get by, on the cheap.

Welcome! You have an outstanding portfolio. Judging by the number of submissions and downloads, looks like you've been at this for a while. Can't believe that you are just now finding this web site. Lots to learn here, and we welcome any input, from such a successful micro-stocker.

Yes, you are missing something. We are in agreement. Mac for me, PC for you.

Although the Mac makes up only a small percentage of the "overall" PC market, I think you will find it makes up more like 50% or higher of those in the creative field (photographers).

To say that there is "nothing" about a Mac that makes it the best choice, is to disagree with millions of happy Mac users. I base my research, of what kind of computers and camera equipment my favorite photographers use. If your favorite photographers use PCs, then that would be the "best" choice for you. Of course, it's all subjective.

As with all investments, whether a computer or camera equipment, you have to ask yourself, "Have I reached the level where I can afford the best, and will it pay for itself many times over?" For me, the answer was yes.

I hope all the Windows people realize that you can run Windows on a Mac. Have been able to for quite some time now. Although I haven't actually heard of anyone switching back and forth, once they start using Mac OS. Once you go Mac, you never go back!

Thanks sjlocke. "Cat food" is acceptable. Also changed the title to "Cat Food in a Bowl".

I wonder if the words in the title show up in the search. For instance, I have a photo of a bowl of cat food. It's called Cat Food Bowl. But the word "cat' was rejected as a keyword.

Sorry, it was late and I didn't notice the thread was about Cutcaster. No sales from there and I gave up on them.

I'm doing pretty well, with only 240 submissions. I seem to have 3-7 downloads from all of the big 6, everyday. Had 34 downloads from Shutterstock on Sept 24th. I concentrate on product illustrations. That's what I like to do, and I know that advertisers look for that stuff on microstocks.  I'm uploading a couple a day, trying to build a bigger portfolio. My freelance career has taken a hit this year, so this is a good way to bring in a few hundred bucks a month. Hope that encourages others that are having a slow time!

I know....you go to heaven. But what happens in regard to your microstock accounts? My wife knows how to check the numbers, and what steps to go through, to request payments. but what about taxes? What happens when a microstock site tries to withhold taxes, and is informed that the contributer is dead? Are there any steps I should take, to insure my wife can continue to collect payments. BTW, my wife's last name is different than mine.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Proof of Ownership
« on: August 04, 2009, 14:26 »
1. From the Google searches I've done,
Q. Do I have to file anything in Washington, D.C., in order to get a copyright?

A. No. A copyright is secured automatically when a work is created. This concept is frequently misunderstood. Some people still believe that there are formalities required in order to create a copyright. This is not true. Under the latest version of the Copyright Act, neither publication nor registration with the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress is required in order to secure full copyright protection. When a work is created, it is automatically copyrighted.

2. The image was not bought from a microstock site. It was taken from the online portfolio of samples, on my website.

General Stock Discussion / Proof of Ownership
« on: August 04, 2009, 13:26 »
I was driving by a restaurant, in my area, and noticed that one of my stock photos was being used on banners, and on the menus as a logo. It's a picture of Guava, and the name of the restaurant is "Guava". I asked the owner where he got the image, and he said that his designer found it on the internet. I informed him that I was the photographer, and he agreed that if indeed I was the photographer, he would be willing to pay a licensing fee. I have since sent him a contact sheet of the original photo shoot, along with photos of the layers of the stem and leaves used for the photoshop composite.
He has now sent me an email stating that he received the prints, but still has not received any copyright documentation constituting ownership or the ability/right to sell the artwork. I'm stumped. How do I prove ownership?

Having just watched some of Yuri Arcurs' amazing videos, I am struck how anybody can make a profit shooting models, for microstock. Doing the math, you pay a professional model around $200 an hour, and that doesn't include makeup and hair. And, a lot of shots include 4, 5, or 6 models. So say 6 x $200 = $1200, plus the cost of hair and makeup for 6 models. Plus , a lot of model agencies require at least a 2 hour minimum. So now, the cost doubles to $2400 for just the models. And then one photo only sells for $1? How many photos do you have to sell, from that 2 hour shoot, before you start showing a profit? 2400? It's not adding up!
Can somebody, who shoots professional models for microstock, explain how they show a profit? Is my math completely off?
