Did you hear for Hindenburg Omen? Is it really going to happen this September?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-13/-hindenburg-omen-suggests-another-leg-down-in-stocks-technical-analysis.html

the hindenburg omen has predicted every crash that occured (since 1987?). however, not all hindenburg signs will lead to a crash. i'm actually trying to convince a relative to pull his stock portfolio, but....you can't game the system.

I guess this means it time to start stashing that cash!

I don't know if you shoot in Raw or not but you do have the option to open as a 8 bit. Maybe if you do that to begin with you won't have a problem with the conversion. Just a suggestion...

Yep.  And, as my wife said after I found her another job  ;D , there are plenty of jobs out there ... "I have three of them."   ::)

Warren That's a good one....lol.
Didn't you know women are multi talented??

They are accountants
They are housekeepers
They are chiefs
They are shoppers
They are baby sitters
They are bar keepers
They are counselors
They are nurse maids

Then they have their day job. ;D

I voted for B also. The face in the back makes for a more interesting picture. A to me looks chopped. The person in the background distracts from it because their head is missing.

I always laugh when they say that unemployment has leveled out or decreased. They don't ever take into account the millions of people who have drawn all their unemployment benefits and have none left, therefore they aren't drawing it any more!!

Sorry had to add this....a lot of companies hire part time employee to save money on taxes. These employee do not qualify for unemployment because they are part time or are paid as contract labor..

It's good that you have someone handling it for you and you know and trust them. I personally would rather pay someone commission rather than deal with the customer myself, but on occasion we have too. Hopefully they'll still purchase it with the new redesign. Good luck.

I get a sell every now and then. Not a lot but I do get a random sell every now and then. What I mainly get are subscription sales. I've had a couple of credit sales and only one SMS sale. The ones that have sold are mainly the same ones over and over.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Which sites accept editorial?
« on: August 18, 2010, 11:11 »
I do think iStock takes it's copyright issues a little overboard. I recently had a photo of the Dallas skyline rejected because you could see the AT&T sign on one of the buildings. I'm surprised they didn't reject it for the "Mobil Horse" on the top of one of them. My point is that downtown Dallas is known for these icons. It makes up their skyline. It was approved at the other sites I submitted it to. I'm don't plan to resubmit it to iStock.
I also had some pictures from the 1800's rejected because they wanted model releases. I provided a property release, but they said they had to have a model release signed by a descendant with their relation stated on the release. I could have provided one but it is more of a hassle than it's worth. Dreamstime did the same thing, but shutterstock and big stock took them with the property release. I'm glad shutterstock did because I have sold a ton of them on there and they are still selling.

It couldn't go automatically into their systems simply because you'd have to have a model release and this option isn't available when you do the initial application.

you got also Alamy :)

I knew Alamy had that. I've got a few editorial on there but it's been ages since I even uploaded anything there or even checked the site for sales. Not much activity for me there. Of course I don't even think I have 60 photos on there.

I know Big Stock, Dreamstime and Shutterstock do, but does iStock and Veer and any of those other smaller ones???
No: iStock, Veer, FT - Yes: 123RF.
SS: only accepts newsworthy, not the full range of editorial.

I had a feeling iStock didn't and neither did Veer since the photos I was looking for only showed feet. Thank's FD....that saved me some time on not having to upload just to find out there was no editorial option.

But I can't find my unfinished files anymore... And having the "friends" list showing first when clicking on a profile is a little childish

I agree especially if someone has a lot of "Friends"

Tom.....just make sure you get your money up front. It can be very difficult to collect afterward. You mention a midstock agency...are they taking care of it for you and included in the money? If you have to pay them also keep that in mind as well when pricing it.

Oh good, I noticed mine was gone this morning too, but just made a post on a different thread and see that it is back. I thought I might have said something wrong in an email and got booted.  :)

LOL....I thought the same thing or thought I'd let my old messages pile up to high....I just went in and deleted all the old ones... ;)

Look guys, when I said "real" people, obviously I dont mean candid shots of people looking wide-eyed, pimply and with crocked teeth but real people still looking good. Thats all.

Candid to me isn't snap shots. Candid to me is natural looking shots of people in natural environments, not appearing posed, but natural. I don't consider candid as wide-eyed, pimply person with crooked teeth smiling big at the camera. That to me is a snap shot.

I'm thinking of submitting a solid blue sky with loads of artifacts and call it...here it comes..."Artifacts!"   What else could it be?    ::) Think it will get approved?

lol....you ought to try it... :D

But how do you keyword these "real" shots? Do you use the keyword "real", or is "candid" more well known amongst buyers?

Anymore I use "candid" "natural" "human".....as to rather that works or not I don't know because I don't have a portfolio full of people shots.

There are plenty of "real" looking ordinary people in microstock.

Problem is they are nearly impossible to find, drowned as they are in a sea of Yuri's and Monkeybusiness's  perfect looking, cookie cutter images.

If the micro sites don't find a way in their search engines to allow the real people type images to see the light of day, they will continue to lose buyers to Flikr and the like.   And adding the keyphrase "real people" isn't helpful because buyers don't know to search for it.

Yes there are and they are buried. Most buyers don't want to dig to find them. They are buried under the model shots simply because those are still popular and were popular in the past and have been downloaded time and time again. I don't know how a site would be able to separate the two. You do a search for most popular...you get the most downloaded. You do a search with best match...it's going to pull up a variety, but the most downloaded will probably be on top..If you do a search by the newest.....you might find some and maybe not. Buyers don't feel like digging through the pages and pages of images just to find that one shot.

Is anyone having sales there yet? Aren't they still in the BETA stage? I just can't bring myself to upload to another site if they just sit there. I've already got two that do that.
Lisa just mentioned she had her first sale.

Yes I read that.....but she also has a huge portfolio...... :D :D

Congrats Warren.....I love the one with the fawn and doe. Got a question for you.....do you post your dirt bike photos on any of the sites and if you do, do they require you to have a model release? I've got some and I have never tried posting them because I figured I would need model releases even though they have helmets on.

Oh and Texas is a wonderful place..... ;)

Thanks, Donna.
That's the one that sold.
As for the bike images, Yes.  They are all "editorial only" however.  Shutterstock, Dreamstime and 123rf all have sold a few of them.
Also, the logos (bikes, clothing, etc) and trademarks are much more of a problem than the individuals.  You would need multiple property releases.
I have a collection of OLD images that I scanned and sell exclusively on Cutcaster.  They have made more money for me than all the others combined.

It never dawned on me to do them as editorial. I don't have a lot of them, but I got a few from a small dirt bike track outside of McKinney that I went to and took my camera. I'll have to go dig them off my hard drive. ;)

There is also a new trend moving all over the world, its about ordinary, ordinary, real people, ordinary jobs, ordinary things, etc, plasticky looking models seems to be tabu, its better to show an overweight madam eating a dripping hamburger, etc.
Latest Range-Rover campaign really sums it up, for the first time instead of this rich, luxuary couple stepping out of the the car,  out comes these two ordinary fellas, scruffily dressed in fishing gear, going fishing.

I think that if Micro is going to survive this dip, they really have to start concentrating on the real world.

I agree 100% lagereek. There are still the "model" studio shots needed out there, but a lot of the buyers are starting to want the candid "real people" shots. You've heard it a lot lately. I've heard it from several buyers and they are going elsewhere to get those real shots because there is a lack of it on stock sites. These stock sites need to really start listening to the buyers.

Hello fellow dirt biker.  Haven't seen nor heard much from you lately?
I'm just beginning.  Some of my first 18 images are still being reviewed.  So far, it is 6 accepted 7 rejected.  In both cases, approved and disapproved, there are surprises.
I had my first sale yesterday.  I guess that's okay with just six images online?

Good to see that you are still active.  Hope you are making a lot of sales.

Mixing up slangs by non-native speakers (like me) can sometimes be embarrassing. I remember during part of my PhD working in a Silicon Valley joint and at a (rather informal) meeting I exclaimed "bullsh@t!". Everybody turned pale. I just assumed that it was a normal expression to express doubt since the word is commonly used in American movies.

BullSh@t is used quite often in the states. It does sorta mean doubt, but more so as a challenge. Some people use it to express disbelief. Some people use it as calling someone on a lie. It has various uses... ;)
