You don't want to do that!!  There's a request payment button in the management area.

RPI is useful to compare how different sites perform for you if you have different numbers of images on each and can help target where uploading would work best.

Roughly 1 in 500 is an EL, SODs between 4 and 15 bucks a little more frequent

The collection is curated more than just inspected and is pricing at a premium
Curated in which way ?? As I've said, I see (and you can see) many classical microstock photos, that's doesn't explain how was done the selection of "members".
I wish a good luck to all "in" members.
"Curated" as in the editors select content they feel should be in the collection, and not just anything in focus.
In other words, the same approach taken by sites other than IS  ;)

They're #2 for me behind Shutterstock and more than 3X iStock at #3. I have a large port at the sites that don't throttle my uploads. (DT, I'm looking at you.). So yes, 123 really does earn me more than the rest.

Looks like, compared to IS, a 40 times bigger port yields 3 times the revenue so RPI is roughly 1:12 which is approximately the same as I'm seeing.

I'm not a buyer of images but, like everyone, I am a buyer of goods and services and my decisions on where to purchase are based on value and quality - the happiness of the suppliers or workers doesn't enter into it.  If folks want buyers to move they have to move the product first.

I have to ask...

If this site is anywhere higher than 5th for someone, what other sites are you submitting to and is there a big variation in port size?

685
People vote for SS because it earns the most money for them, they have a low cost model but have the volumes to generate relatively decent returns and they are by far the most professionally run site.  If we make the assumption that folks are doing this for the money rather than getting a nice warm fuzzy feeling, you pick your sites based on results.  Mickey mouse "fair" sites are all very well and good but how many people would delete their IS ports to put them on say GL?

When uploading additional formats on FTP you put a file with the same name (e.g. image.png) as your main image (e.g. image.jpg)  in the "additional" subfolder which is automatically associated with the image - I don't do model releases but believe there is a subfolder for these that probably works the same way.

SS are far less picky about 3D than IS so any of these already accepted where you are should just sail through

I made the most money on Canstock but I voted for Shutterstock here. I just like their professionalism and they also sell a lot of pictures. There are a few parts I still don't like about them but life can't be entirely pink.

Really?   :o
Was that for a month or over an extended period of time?

If someone has 1000 images on Canstock and 50 on SS that might work (no suggestion that is the actual case here)

The doors arent closed, but having to wait a year is ridiculous...

Other agencies do the same thing. You get rejected, you have to wait some amount of time to re-apply.

Sure Stocksy's waiting period is a bit longer than most, but hey, it's their sandbox, their rules.

I'm starting to get the feeling that many of the complaints about Stocksy are rooted in the idea that they aren't micro enough. They don't take typical stock (for the most part). Their rules are different (image exclusive, long re-apply wait period, etc).

As far as I know, Stocksy didn't ask to be mentioned and discussed on a microstock forum. They're not calling themselves microstock. They're not pricing themselves as microstock. And yet it seems like a lot of folks around here wish they conducted themselves in more of a typical microstock company kind of way.

What would be the point of that? Then we'd all just be complaining about yet another typical microstock company emerging.

Id agree with this, existing work is effectively your CV and, even on micro, there are these with both distinctive style and quality (90% + AR everywhere) that would get them in.  There is very much a riff raff need not apply vibe about this but as Mike says, their sandbox, their rules.  Out of curiosity, are there any accepted members who have not had a strong relationship with IS ? (Not suggesting anything, just curious).

General Stock Discussion / Re: 3 sites you should NOT support
« on: March 27, 2013, 11:50 »
I don't actually support any of them, they're in it to make a buck so it's down to who produces the best return for me.  Varying levels of effectiveness in top 4 and the rest simply aren't worth the effort for a small average port.

Looks like a high standard and not for most of us peons
Notwithstanding the high standard, I suspect you will find similar on cheaper sites but without the same digging needed
Can't see too many shopping there for their blogs
Better than average chance that many of the selected contributors will need other homes for a fair percentage of their images
Subject matter coverage is limited
In most areas of commerce there is the high value low volume market as well as the low value high volume so wish them well

This month's RPI for top 4 expressed as a % of 123

FT 188%
DT 356%
SS 786%
IS 1344%

I am really on the fence now. My sales have basically tripled, still not much $$ but the numbers are up. BME few days ago already, in DLs and $$. Last month was good too. If April shows the same trend, I might start uploading again. I stopped back in November so I have about 160 images they never got. But I dont want to reward an agency for being greedy bastids. What to do.

If you don't want to rewards and agency for being bastids you don't upload anything more and delete what is there already - I wonder how many have actually followed through on statements made towards the end of last year?  I'm certainly not going to upload any more with the current RC system unless they change it to something that rewards performance per image instead of just port size and there is a better than average chance I'll delete what's there one I resolve the day job situation.

Ah Gotcha - unlikely to make any difference to 3D contributors then.

Good question. I have 3D rendered stills, but I wouldn't classify them as illustrations...
Nor I but not photos either.  My sense with IS is that they would accept 3d that look like  photos and reject those that look like illustrations unlike the other big sites.

No problemo - I thought they would auto update on reaching a new level -  no such luck but they did act on the request very quickly.

I think illustrations have proven to be good sellers and their current approval queue is less than an hour for an Illustration to be approved (from my recent experience)...so I think this is a way to strengthen their illustration area and promote the new acceptance of Raster illustrations. Makes sense...approval time will probably go longer now. Not everything is a huge conspiracy ;)

Has something changed here?  Not saying their attitude to these images is either right or wrong but it's completely out of step with the other big sites.

I am fulltime but wish I did better. The problem is I am the only person who would employ me and I am on my second verbal warning for my obstructive attitude.  :-\

Consider this a written warning  ;D
