Poor.

SS continues to drop.  FT/Adobe and Canva holding steady.  DP and DT trickle.  Zero on GL.

will be amazed if we get 30% of the actual sale price, more like 30% of the royalty paid from Getty to 500px I would imagine?

Absolutely.  Nobody is going to be getting 30% of the sales.  It will be 30% of 500pxs negotiated cut, so 30% of 25% (or whatever they negotiate), so maybe %8 of the sales price?  Can you cut $.02 into that small a piece? Lol.

I have the same issue of sales on an image that is no longer available for sale.

I emailed to ask how this was happening a few weeks back, but haven't received any kind of response.

An image that was used in a design mock up will always be available to license, even if pulled from the collection/search, is my understanding.

681
I give up.

682
Last of all, editorial use is only one of many conditions whereby a photo can be used under Fair Use. declaring a photo as 'editorial only' at the point of sale (which is what stock agencies are doing) is a mistake.

Good lord.  Declaring it editorial is because it comes with a specific set of rights and usage allowances that is different from the commercial license.

Please, just stop.

683
imagine that a guy wants to write a story about dreadlocks. he gets a copyrighted image with a watermark on it of a person who has dreadlocks, and uses it to illustrate his news story. that is fair use.

No, it isnt.

684
Imagine you took a photo of a model and sold it through i-stock to a company that uses it in an ad campaign. It's discovered, through that use, that the model is a wanted fugitive. That makes the photo news and news agencies can use it without payment because it's the centre of a breaking story. That's fair use.

Yes.  This.  The story is literally about the image itself.

685
Nope.

Thats for that specific use of providing search results.  Please, just stop.

686
Sigh.

Anyone taking ^^s advice can feel free to send them the bill from your subsequent lawsuit.

Otherwise, remember fair use applies to a tiny set of usages.  And this isnt one of them.

688
For someone that doesnt know how to use their camera youre keeping awfully busy.

689
And hes also just wrong.  If it were an article specifically commenting on the photo, it would have fair use claim, possibly.  Just grabbing a photo to use as filler or to illustrate the commentary is infringement.

690
Oh, I thought you were selling stock on Amazon.  Not T-shirts.

691
Yes, it is.  It's funny because Getty will let you use images for free if you use their tool to embed the image.

692
I have had some sucsees with merch by Amazon. Easiest 500$ per month ever made.

Expand, please.

694
Metering is irrelevant.  If you expose it darker, everything is darker.  If you expose it lighter, everything is lighter.  Theres no affecting the light area without affecting everything else.

695
There is no fixing it.  The light that comes off the subject is recorded by the sensor.  Either you modify the light or you fix it in post.

696
Grape Nuts are neither grapes, nor nuts.  Discuss.

Teaming with Getty?  Sigh.

To our wonderful Canva contributors,

As Canva continues to grow, were working hard to ensure our product evolves with the needs and wants of our usersso heres a few updates from the team.

Building our collection

Since launch in 2013, weve made huge strides towards our mission of empowering the whole world to design. Today, Canva is in 190 countries and accessible in 100 languagesso building a diverse image library is more important than ever.

To help jump-start this process, were working with Getty Images wholl provide their content from iStock. For those of you who already have images in iStock, dont worry. Were ensuring all Canva images are prioritised.

Got any travel plans?

If youre a contributor who takes authentic global shots, wed love to hear from you. Well be focusing on initiatives to champion diversity in our library in the coming months.

One Time Use License

Our One-Time Use (OTU) licence has always been a huge source of confusion for our users. Users love having a low-cost way to access your quality images (and its always been important for us not to give away too many rights). But the 24 hour restriction left lots of people puzzled.

So to keep our users smiling, were removing the 24 hour restriction on our OTU license. What this means is users will now be able to use one image in one designat one price.

Canva for Android wins Google Play Award

In other news, our Android app was recently awarded by the Google Play store as Best Standout Startup. Its thanks to your contribution that were able to give even more people around the world access to a library of amazing imageryright from their smartphones.

We cant wait to see more of your workthanks again!

Thanks Sean!

Wouldn't that affect their existing uses of my image badly?

It would have no effect on licenses you've already sold.  Those (RF) are perpetual.  Non-revokable.

699
Sure.

For my stock animations I use 3D models that I created myself . But I need more complex 3D objects.. I would like to buy some 3d objects/models, is this possible? Or I must created all by myself? Which license allows this? Is there some page that sells this?

Tnx

If you need to license an image or 3D object, then you don't own copyright to it.

There's a difference.  You don't hold copyright to the model itself, but the result of using it, ie., a rendered image, you would.  No different than any other "object".  Because you light, color, choose the angle, etc.

The Turbosquid thing may be new.  It's been a while since I used them.
