Everyone says that SS gets lots of downloads for new images while others get more later on. How long is the "new image period" where images get lots of downloads and then slowly die off a bit for Shutterstock? Just wondering since I'm a bit newer there.
As well, do image downloads increase linearly? By that, I mean, if I have 60 images online, and I get 4 downloads a day, when I get 120, would I be getting 8 downloads a day? 180 at 12?
Thanks in advance

I use a combination of both (I have about 100 images on average on sites) and I use a spreadsheet just to keep track of everything (a summary mainly) but I use the sites to look at daily statistics.

How does everyone do with their downloads per day? Do you guys see a drop off in downloads on Thursdays, Friday, Saturdays and Sundays? Or is it consistent every day? I'm just wondering because I see consistent downloads for a few days in a row then it drops a bit and then it picks up. I have about 60 photos and average about 5 or 6 downloads a day.

I am submitting to SS and as of late I'm having a hard time getting a majority of pictures accepted, but I just want to make sure that they don't boot me for any reason like that.
I have looked but can't find anything indicating that they would kick me out or suspend my account if I have a particular acceptance ratio. Right now I'm at about 60%, so I'm just wondering if there's anything I'm supposed to watch out for.
I usually submit 1 or 2 pictures from a set to make sure that they are acceptable before submitting them all.
Can anyone shed some light on this just so that I don't get myself into trouble?

I see that pictures at SS can be editorial. What does that mean? How does that work and what pictues can I upload under that category? I'm not too familiar with this and I would just like some clarification Thanks in advance

Congrats on your babies...baby boom? I just like to say I love SS...my uploads get accepted at a good pace (especially my recent ones) and I'm getting regular downloads which makes me quite happy. Its quickly becoming my best and I'm really happy. Again, congrats on the birth of your children

Just wondering what people thing of this lens. I think its this one. Its about $299 CDN. Unfortunately no image stabilizer yet, although I really really really want one - but then again, its almost 400 dollars more. So what do you guys think of this lens. Here's the link. http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PageDisplay?dest=frames.jsp¤cy=CAD&storeId=10001It would just be interim until Shutterstock picks up and I can resell this one and buy the better one.

Not that it affects me too much because well, BigStock is incredibly slow at approving and they don't put up the sales numbers either, so I thought I'd just mention something. It was interesting because a stock market photo that everyone else has accepted was rejected by BigStock. I would have never thought they'd be rejecting something on composition when DT, SS, and FT (not as strict, I know) did not.

I did e-mail them. They replied same day. Their reply was also BS saying the usual "its not you its me" nonsense. I don't even think they looked at my account

Adelaide,
It says exactly "sorry YOU uploaded too many similar images"....I uploaded 1 image, just one...something they've never seen before and it was too many similar images....in my opinion thats BS...I don't know if they are blind or they can't express their reasoning well, but "too many similar images" means to me that there's at least 2. Thats getting on my nerves now.

« on: June 08, 2006, 09:59 »
they haven't accepted any....they are all too similar but yet they just don't want to pick even one of 2? Thats just being lazy

This is ridiculous. I resubmitted 2 I thought were good, yet they were still "too many similar images"

I agree...50 shots is ridiculous. But 5? Come on! I'll get by though. Its not gonna kill me especially since their reviews are so quick. So when I get home tonight, definitely gonna get one or two uploaded

We're talking about 5 lol...I'm not insane and I wouldn't upload 20 of the same picture at a different angle...thats a waste of time especially since if they dont' like one, they won't like most of them most likely.
I thought they were different enough, but I will upload 1 or 2, then see how those go...I have 1 more that I didn't upload but I think is very good because of how the clouds line up (these are lake shots in cottage country) and I'm just experimenting with the curves to bring out the blue in the sky....
But I'll take your suggestion...doesn't hurt I guess....Shutterstock rejection/acceptance should be coming soon....wish me luck
Also, ironically, after 1 day that I said my downloads are a bit slower, I got another download at StockXpert.....weird

This doesn't make any sense to me. I uploaded too many similar images, yet they've deleted them all? Why not pick the better ones or the ones they like. Thats pretty dumb on their part...because I'm just gonna upload them 2 at a time now...or 1 at a time and they probably will accept them anyways
Any comments on this

Fintastique,
In my opinion, I don't think you should really use Fotolia as a basis of whether SS would accept the same photos. I have photos on Fotolia that wouldn't be accepted on Shutterstock in any conditions. You're best best comparison companies are DT and probably iStock.
But then again, thats my opinion. If you see differently, let me know

Well I hope then to get a few more photos up soon...I have about 15-20 that I took in cottage country, I'm gonna get those keyworded and up soon...my Shutterstock application should be coming back this week - within a day or two - so hopefully I get lucky and get in there that way I can recuperate some camera costs and buy more stuff I do agree that there is lots of traffic. ANd I do like the rating system. Which is why I would hope that Shutterstock implements something like that so that old photos dont' get lost in the system like they do now and you have to continuously upload to keep up good pace Last week I averaged 1 photo download a day on Dreamstime with only 40 photos - but that was too good to be true as its stopped so far for this week

I am just wondering how other people have been doing for June on StockXpert. I have 90 images on there and I've only had 2 downloads since June 1. I was expecting more from what everyone is saying but I haven't gotten any. Are there any particular shots that sell better?
Is anyone having the same slowness-type thing as me?

Its good to see that they are giving more, and I made a few bucks more...but the site isn't that great in my opinion. The sites that will survive are the ones that have a reputation for being strict on quality standards, like iStock, and Shutterstock, and Dreamstime, and StockXpert, and 123RF doesn't have that discipline. I submitted photos that have not gotten accepted everywhere but they accepted them. And another thing I've noticed is that if you sign up you get good downloads for a while then they stop...even though I keep uploading more photos that sell elsewhere fairly well.

Does anyone have any sales at CitizenImage. I haven't bothered to upload more than 2 pics because of the ridiculous amount of time it takes since it won't take the data from the JPEG file.

I don't really expect my breakdown to stay that way. I already got a sale on StockXpert and its been less than 24 hours. 123RF has picked up slightly again, and I have more to upload to StockXpert. Shutterstock may be in the works, and that might join the list, and I might stop submitting to Featurepics and Fotolia for a bit until they pick up. Maybe not Fotolia. And Bigstock has picked up very slightly (I got 2 downloads in the last day)
So, what I'm trying to say is that my stats are probably off

Here's the breakdown for the month:
Bigstock - 9% Shutterstock - 4% (2 images) Dreamstime - 42% Fotolia - 8% 123RF - 37%
I just got into StockXpert...so hopefully if things hold up it will all change and I'll have some more data

Fintastique,
How long did it take for Shutterstock to review your initial submission?
