How many videos you need uploaded to make Motion Array worth it?

I get about $3 per month, per clip. Earnings have quite a decline over time if you're not continuously uploading though (I think I made about $12 per clip in the first month). If they download your file once, they can continue to use it forever, like most royalty free stuff. Envato Elements would be better for consistent earnings as it's a single use license when you download a file and you have to reregister the use every time you use it. While it's physically possible to not do that, the majority of people seem to play by the rules so you notice a much slower decline in earnings even if you're not uploading new content. Still, I find both of them worthwhile uploading to... but be prepared to wait two months for your MA content to be reviewed. Ground to a halt after Artgrid took over.

Thanks for your reply and some interesting pointers, cheers.

C'mon Adobe, give that algorithm another spin, preferably back to where it was. Not one sale so far this week.

Sales have collapsed for me at Adobe and not one sale since sometime last week. Very disappointing.

Bypass the internet, print postcards and sell it locally.
There is no big marge at internet sales, its all about high volume sales.
For high volume sales generic images that everyone can use are doing better.

I like the idea especially given my main photo genre, but how do you go about selling postcards locally? Thanks.

Shutterstock is way worse now than it ever was pre or post June 2020. Sales volume and RPD in 2021 have fallen hard with no sign of recovery.

Account closed and while I didn't expect it, the little money I had there was paid.

Are you folk experiencing poor sales across other / all agencies?

711
@Tenebroso
Thanks for your kind words!

I really appreciate your offer, but i work full time on microstock plus some freelancing (i upload new content almost every day),
so i have little to no spare time for other projects.

But i read this forum, and if there are any questions i can answer i'll gladly do so. :)

@Pacesetter
Sorry, i prefer to not share my portfolio, but if you are searching for inspirations this is a good start point:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UqWqoJ6qJo

And yes, i often use element 3d, especially for conceptual animations where i don't need realism

Thanks for that. I followed some tutorials online learning After Effects and made a couple of cool animations but nothing like what some of the more powerful 3D programs can accomplish. I will consider adding Element 3D and likewise learn with YT tuts.

712
@tenebroso
If you want to start with 3d, you could try Blender
Its free, and you can find a lot of tutorials on youtube
Not easy to learn but very powerful.

3D is very nice. Do you have a port to show? Can you still make nice salable 3D animations with After Effects and Element 3D?

So what are the alternatives for him?

1. Continue to savage contributor commissions in the hope enough will hang in there to prop up profits.
2. Request Uncle Sam corporate bailout support package.
3. Quit the company and run off with tail between legs.
4. Declare bankruptcy.

714
I started in early 2019, grew ports (photos, videos, illustrations) across a number of agencies. 2019 was slow beginnings but things really picked up throughout 2020 (during the thick of the COVID pandemic). However since 2021, sales volumes and earnings have fallen sharply with no sign of recovering to 2020 levels even with increasing content in subjects that are evergreen and have shown to sell as they were just months prior.

« on: March 05, 2021, 23:52 »
So back to the topic, video sales abruptly stopped on shutterstock for over a month now. Maybe they are selling but shutterstock isn't crediting the contributor's account with the sale. Nothing off-limits for this company anymore.

716
They are going to see an epic first quarter thanks to the reset and lower payments to contributors generally.

Longer term I don't think they have a clue what the next step will be. Share holders are going to want to see more growth and they are in a tail spin.

Revenue increases 2% in 2020 and  3% in 2019 compared to 11.9% in 2018 and 12.7% in 2017. They are in a tail spin and instead of reacting by coming up with innovative products they simply put their hands in our pockets and filled theirs.

I agree, recent actions by Shutterstock are indicative of a company in trouble and reacting in panic. At best, unsustainable, at worst a concrete wall dead ahead.

717
I reckon Shutterstock have got their back against a wall now. They can't cut contributor earnings to a meaningful cost-cutting level now less big producers of high quality content finally unlicense or withdraw their ports. Very unlikely they'll be able to raise prices on customers. Their other cost cutting avenues are drying up so contributor earnings is all they have left to savage. Their arrogance is almost certain they'll overreach to protect profits and share value and it's gonna come right back and hit them where it hurts and hard.

718
So in lay terms, the sheet is gonna hit the fan for Suckerkok in 2021?

719
Personally I think it's their new CEO Stan P who's the big ass wipe in this company. I think he's shot SS in the foot with his new subscription business strategy. The place is a sheet hole now not just for contributors it seems, but customers too.

VideoBlocks / Re: Is Storyblocks worth uploading video to?

They give out your clips for unlimited download.  You'll be helping destroying your own livelihood as a creator imo.  Some con artist may download and sell them as their own clips on other sites.  So, I would never upload to unlimited download sites.  Also I would never sell my clips outright.

Thanks, I thought that when I read their terms on the site but wasn't sure. Definitely a no go then from me either.

Have 380 clips, mainly aerial drone.

Example earnings per download? Frequency of downloads? Port size?

Thanks

722
Good on you, the place is turning into a sheet hole.

How do I close my port at Alamy?

Had one sale there since March 2020. I don't want my images left on their site.

Thanks
Steve

I am pleased to inform you that Adobe Stock contributors who qualified for the Creative Cloud bonus in 2020 can now redeem the bonus by clicking the link found in the blue banner at the top of the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal! You can view details about how to redeem your code here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/how-to-redeem-creative-cloud-bonus-code.html

IMPORTANT! If you qualified for a single app, once you click your selection, the selection is permanent and cannot be changed so choose wisely! Don't click the banner until you are ready to see the entire process through. Read the page I linked above first to get an idea of what the means.

I have more good news to share! The program will continue through 2021 with the qualification requirements remaining the same as they were in 2020.

Stay creative!

Mat Hayward

Thank you Mat and Adobe Stock, much appreciate your generous offer, it feels like a gift for me post-Christmas.
