I'm thinking about leaving DP, too. I'm already on Canstock & Envato - both sites are worth it me. I'm wondering if YayMicro is worth it...

I stopped uploading after they introduced the subs system. I was earning .38 a download at SS, and only .27 at BigStock, although it recently went up to .29. My monthly earnings dropped around 40% since they introduced subscriptions. It's a shame because BS was a good agency to deal with until SS took over and proceeded to ruin them. This is why I no longer trust SS, and why I believe no agency deserves our undivided support. If they become too successful and powerful, they will screw us. We would be much better off with several smaller agencies, if one slashes royalties, it's not too painful to leave them.

They now reject everything I submit containing the Great Seal of the USA, for 'potentially infringing on intellectual property rights'. I wonder if they also reject state seals and other government emblems. Will they start rejecting flags next?

I checked and my entire portfolio is on the site. Should I insist they take them down? Or would that just get me banned from FT? They aren't one of my better earners anymore, so I suppose it's worth considering.

Very slow, except for yesterday, which was pretty good, very slow otherwise.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS rejections 100%
« on: December 31, 2013, 16:55 »
I get the impression SS just doesn't want nature shots.

Sorry, but I really don't feel that's the case. I have a portfolio on SS of over 1400 photos. The vast majority of them fall into the "nature" category, and yes, they do sell. Not as much as slick studio shots of gorgeous models or fabulous food. But, they do sell.

Don't believe me? Take a look: http://www.shutterstock.com/g/marthamarks

But what percentage of your nature shots get accepted? What is the trick to getting nature shots accepted? My nature shots have around a 90% rejection rate at SS, probably a 98% rejection rate at FT. Also, very few of my nature shots feature animals - could that could be a factor?

When I started at Microstock back in 2004, I was submitting photos only. As time went on, the micros literally killed my enthusiasm for photography, so I gradually switched to illustration.  Once in a great while I'll upload photos, but if I weren't primarily an illustrator, I think there's a good chance I'd have walked away from microstock by now.

I get the impression SS just doesn't want nature shots. Most of my nature shots are rejected by both FT and SS. I pick only the cream of the crop, and then do a lot of additional work in Photoshop. Beautiful photos, they just don't want them.

I upload mainly illustrations, most of which get accepted, but uploading photos is so depressing. I get the message, they just don't want nature shots. I don't do people shots or studio shots, so there is really no point in my uploading photos. It's a bummer, because I really enjoy photography. I use my photos as elements in my illustrations, so I guess I'll just stick to using them there.  :-\

The point Luis was making, I believe, was in terms of monthly income. If we're all stuck with similar models, it would be far more favorable to have "2 or 3" Shutterstocks. I am sure we'd all give up dt, ft, dp or whatever and have them replaced by 2-3 SS's. I think you know exactly what Luis meant but prefer to be a buzz kill.

Not me - I would much rather go to the trouble of uploading to several agencies, rather that see any agency get too much power. If the earnings are spread out over several sites, it's much easier to drop any agency that starts to mistreat us. Look at how Shutterstock took over BigStock and then turned around and cut the royalties. Who knows what other crap they might hit us with in the future. SS is just too d*mn powerful.

I was considering the possibility of resuming uploads to iStock, but the lack of credit on TS, along with the Google Deal stopped me cold. They have no respect for contributors, and I'm not willing to throw away my self respect by allowing them to treat me like a non-entity.

Does Stocksy plan on including illustrations at some point?

I have been with BigStock since 2005, so I was not eligible for the 'Bridge' simply because I already had all my images on BS for years. I've been at the .38 level on SS for a long time now, so there's a good chance I would have been invited to join the Bridge if I was not already on BS to begin with. I am thoroughly disgusted with this injustice - people who joined the site YEARS after I did now receive a much better return than I do.  I came close to deleting my portfolio when they intoduced .27 subs, but just stopped uploading instead. It's a shame because I always loved BS, they treated me good, that is before SS took it over and ruined it. Just like iStock did with StockXpert. It's like a reoccurring nightmare you can't wake up from. >:(

Shutterstock.com / Bad Week
« on: August 23, 2013, 18:28 »
I've seen a drop of around 50% in my Shutterstock earnings (except for one EL) over the past week, is anyone else seeing this pattern? It's been like a week of Sundays for me at SS. I'm at the 38 cent royalty level, which makes me wonder if they changed the search algorithm to favor contributors with a lower royalty rate. It's really depressing to be happening right before the best months for downloads. I hope I'm just being paranoid...

Had a huge day Tuesday. Yesterday had 4. Today one so far. Really bad. Had better sales over the past weekend then I did the past two days. Too much search tweaking in my opinion.

I'm seeing the same inconsistency.  Makes me wonder if the "real time" update is working.  I noticed last night that sales (on the world map) are popping up in bunches.  Then long periods with nothing?

Just a thought.

Same problem here, I did great over the weekend, but today is terrible.

It's very confusing, there are so many Symbiostock threads that I don't know where to find the basic information that I need to get started. Some links would help.

Bigstock.com / Re: Ominous Change of Sales Graph
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:10 »
June saw my BS earnings fall off a cliff - looking back, the last time my BS earnings were that low was the month of Oct, 2005! Early on with the subs program, my BS earnings actually went up due to some EL sales.  But then June earnings dropped down drastically, and July appears to be following the same pattern as June, mostly 27 sales.  I'm afraid BS is in the process of dying for me.  Sadly, it reminds me of the demise of another formerly great site, StockXpert.

Is anyone planning to delete their portfolio or deactivate files because of this? I'm considering deactivating some of my best sellers in response to this, but I'm wondering what others doing, if anything.

Great link! thanks.

General Stock Discussion / Re: May Sales
« on: June 01, 2013, 12:55 »
good month for me as well! I am just afraid if Shutter were to fade most of us would be in deep trouble since we have such a high percentage of our overall income from them...

I worry about SS's dominance also. I would much rather see my earnings spread out more evenly across the various agencies, I'd feel less vulnerable that way. Add on the fact that SS recently went public, and it's a situation that makes me very uneasy.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Vector Royalty Rates Increasing

I'm wondering if I should start uploading vectors again, but there's the infamous 'Google Deal' to consider. Were vectors included in the Google Deal?

Adobe Stock / Re: My images always refused by fotolia
« on: May 02, 2013, 22:03 »
They accept most of my illustrations, and reject most of my photos. If I were mainly a photographer, I probably would have given up on them by now.

I've been there over a year now. I was disappointed at first, sales were slow and what little did sell was subs. But things have picked up over time, downloads have increased, and I'm getting a decent number of credit sales.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Answer for long reviews
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:13 »
Just as info, I have now established that if one batch is held up (pushed to "Tier 2"), the rest of your batches will be held up by that 1. So, if you are waiting for weeks, have a look at your eldest batch, the problem will probably be located in that batch. In my case it was my PR which did not contain the original image I worked from. After that was rectified the batch was reviewed and 24 hour later the rest "became unstuck" and reviewed.

Hope this info might perhaps help a few of you in similar dilemmas.

I did the same thing, added PRs to a couple of my vectors in the queue, and even deleted a vector from the queue, and my submissions are still frozen. It's been over five weeks that I've been unable to add anything to my portfolio, and my downloads are drying up as a result. It's depressing to watch my portfolio slowly die from neglect and not being able to do anything about it. I tried emailing them, politely asking if they've forgotten me, but no response.  I'd delete all my vectors in the queue if I thought it would do any good, since most of my illustrations are bitmaps.  I picked a bad time to upload vectors.

StockFresh / Lightroom applied keywords don't show up
« on: April 15, 2013, 21:00 »
I'm having a problem at SF with images that I keyworded in Lightroom. When I import them, the keywords aren't there. All of the images that I keyworded in Photoshop import just fine, it's only the Lightroom images that lose the keywords. I don't recall having this problem on any other site. I've only got around half of my portfolio uploaded there because of this problem, does anyone know of a workaround?

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy is Alive
« on: March 25, 2013, 20:46 »
Frankly, unless I am part of it I couldn't care less how they do. Cheering for the sucess of an exclusive agency that you are not part of is just dumb. And that's being realistic, it's not sour grapes.

That's understandable. I guess I see things as a bit different. If models like this are successful, then it creates the potential for similar models to pop up. Or for this model to expand to include me or you. The big four are already competing against my best interests (whether I contribute to them or not), so I'd rather see my competition putting out a site that offers great royalty rates and prices.

I can see both of your points, like BaldricksTrousers I find it hard to get excited about a party that I wasn't invited to. But on the other hand if the Stocksy approach is successful, it could change the industry for the better -- we might see new agencies appear that treat contributors with respect and pay a fair royalty.  But I don't care HOW great they are - I never want to see any one agency get too powerful, too much power will corrupt the best of them.
