As I recall, Pond5 only sends out 1099s if youve earned more than $600. I always have to compute my taxable income from them manually as a result.

Lucky. In the USA its 5 cents, and even then its only certain states. Except Michigan, where its 10 cents, but unless you can steal a large van loaded with cans to make the trip, its not worth it. 81

Requirements for 2022. were never made and 2022. has ended, so you know, it is not possible for AS to set rules for 2022. anymore and it is not possible for us to meet these rules because they don't exist.of course it's still possible - all AS has to do is describe how they're going to select who gets the bonus. absolutely no reason they had to do it on 1/1/22 Its a deal. 82

Im with Her Ugliness on this. While I wish the program would continue, its clear the program has been discontinued. Thats disappointing, but its Adobes software and theyre free not to continue the program.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Does an image of a person wearing a face mask requires a model release?« on: January 10, 2023, 21:19 »I would say you absolutely do. Just think for a moment about all those important features that are visible and eminently recognizable - eyes, hairline, eyebrows, ears, not to mention other parts of the body. Jo Ann, just because my hairline *is* recognizable doesnt mean I want it to be. 86
General Photography Discussion / Re: Replacing sky and adding sun flares to make more sales« on: January 02, 2023, 22:22 »
Ive done sky replacement on some gray sky images in Photoshop and had some success there, but Im very intrigued about this idea of adding lens flares. I go out of my way to avoid lens flares when taking photos, because I always felt like theyd be less likely to sell. Adding them artificially AND getting sales from that? Wow.

General Stock Discussion / Re: PayPal will Take $2500 for Misinformation« on: October 09, 2022, 15:08 »
PayPal is basically a bank at this point. If my bank took money from me because I lied on the internet, theyd get beat down hard in court. PayPal should be no different. I am freaked out by the abundance of misinformation on the internet and what that means for democracy long term, but this isnt the answer.

Image Sleuth / Re: What is Transformative vs What is not? Warhol recent decision« on: June 17, 2022, 16:09 »
Wordplanets point is well taken. At first glance, the image would be fairly easy to make in Photoshop today, but in 1981, I dont have the faintest idea how it could have been done. What may have been transformative then I dont think should be looked at the same way now.
All that said, Im very skeptical of a court case decades after the work was made and nearly as long since Warhol himself died. 93

Adobe Stock / Re: Very Angry After Adobe Stock« on: May 21, 2022, 23:08 »
When Adobe remade their tiers three years ago and increased payments for most contributors, I was excited and thought it would push other stock companies to increase their payments or at least not decrease them. Then along came Shutterstock less than a year later with their cuts

Off Topic / Re: The Biden recession is coming. Brace yourselves.« on: May 11, 2022, 11:42 »Thanks to the incompetent idiots in charge, we're on our way to a recession. Unfortunately there is literally no elected politician in either party with any interest in cutting any spending. The Republicans made that clear before the pandemic when they cut taxes but didnt cut spending at all. Its just silly that some are now arguing to cut spending. If they meant it, they would have done it when they had control. 97

The only way SS would increase commissions is if its in their business interest to do so. Very few folks left when they cut commissions. As far as theyre concerned, lower commissions doesnt hurt their business.

Adobe Stock / Weird 1099 Email« on: April 23, 2022, 15:05 »
A couple weeks ago, I received an official looking email from Adobe, saying my 1099 was incorrect and I needed to go to a website to download an updated one. The URL was... less than official looking, so I emailed Adobe directly. The responded to say it was a real email.
Although the site URL still made me uncomfortable, I visited and put in my info. Apparently I made $30 less than they originally thought. That's what I want to do, go through refiling my taxes over $30 in less income. I think I'll pass! Hopefully the IRS doesn't mind keeping more than they had originally planned... 99
General Stock Discussion / Re: Is it too late for me to start?« on: April 10, 2022, 22:02 »
If youve already got a good quality camera, try it out and see how it goes, but I dont know that Id spend the money to buy one new. The autofocus in my DSLR is dying and Im not sure it makes sense to spend the money to get a new one. But I definitely appreciate the passive income from what Ive already taken.

I agree. I work with someone who uses stock images, but barely ever touches Photoshop. Not everyone has the interest, even though it surprises me. Photoshop is so much fun to mess around in! |
