It was about 10 years ago I travelled through thailand, cambodia, laos and vietnam as part of a 9 month round the world trip.
I have about 2500 shots from that trip on kodak "max 400 print film". Still waiting to get finalised into albums. remember those things.
Laos was my favourite in this section of my trip as it wasn't overun with tourists and resorts etc. Laung Prabang was my favourite place. Security was a bit of an issue though, the week before we were there some rebels machine gunned a bus and killed a dozen people. Some parts of the country it was recommended not to go to at all. Also if you get off track there was risk of unexploded bombs from the vietnam war. I'm not sure what its like now probably alot better.

I saw the 11cents and though geeze even I'm going better than that, then I looked at the istock dial pointing towards the top and went hang on, re-read and saw the per day.
um not going quite that well, maybe if I deleted all but about 5 of my portfolio.
That's pretty good going.

thanks, good sharing.
I've been in some limestone caves in Laos, but nothing as big as these ones in the article.
One of the caves I went in Laos we had to walk/crawl for about 800m until we came to a small river inside the cave which we swum in. In hindsite it was pretty dangerous.

Australia The Australian dollar has gone throught the roof at the moment sitting at around $1UD for 1AUD. Not that long ago it was about 0.6USD for 1 AUD. So for visitors stuff is 40% more expensive. Imports have got a bit cheaper
Currency Australian Dollar Minimum wage $15
Schooner (425 ml) of beer - at the pub $4.50 ish wide variation depending on where. Cinema ticket - $15 Rent for a two bedroom apartment per month - $1200 (Capital cities would be much higher than this.) Visit to the doctor - can be free if you want to go and line up for a long time, about $25 out of pocket to go to my doctor. Cappuccino - $3.50 1 LT petrol = $1.20-1.40

They could try uploading on fake accounts to other sites (might explain why exclusive content seems to be the target, it won't clash with existing files outside iS), they could launch a free downloads website, aimed at getting click-through income from advertising, I don't know what else but you can bet they have a plan for this stuff they didn't take it for no reason.
Maybe they just want to make some nice placemats and tell their friends that they took the pictures

Part of the very high percentage rate on interest charged on credit cards is used to cover for fraud. Obviously if banks etc can reduce the amount of fraud they make more money by keeping more of this extra money they charge. So in essence the cost of fraud is averaged across all customers who pay interest on their card.
If the banks didn't cover the card holder for most of these fraud cases, people would stop using them and the banks would miss out people using money at a very lucrative interest rate (up to 25%)
personally Istock is taking more than 80% commission, I think they should cover the theft and they should have processes in place to minimise the losses.
Surely there should be someone manning a 24/7 business turning over hundreds of million dollars a year all the time for such issues.

personally i find fotolia harder than both IS and SS to get images accepted. There appears to be much randomness in the rejects I get from them. Some go through then other rejected. FT has my personal lowest approval rating.
The other thing I hate is when they reject a photo they just give the id number, if you have multiple photos in the que trying to work out which ones have been rejected for what is a pain in the ass. Why they can't include the description surprises me.
While I'm ranting FT was one of the ground breaking leaders in cutting our commissions. Thanks for that one. Sorry getting off track
I'm not surprised SS accepted this one, they appear to like highly saturated shots, some of those landscapes they have I find off putting but people apparently like to download them.
Best of luck

Sight Hound ... greyhounds or whippets? You mentioned racing.
Love to watch the dogs run ... and the ponies ... and the motorcycles. Even entered Oscar Meyer the Wiener Dog in a Dachshund race in his younger days. I like racing.
Oscar lost.
Yes! to watch these dogs, especially, Borzoi and Greyhound running, its like poetry in motion, beautyful.
All I know is to bet on number 1 / the red dog, inside barrier draw is a very big advantage

At IS 2009 last 4 months was 35% of the yearly total this years last 4 months (still half of december to go) is 33% of the yearly total. I estimate it will probably end up at about 35-40% of the yearly total.
So no where near 50% for me

I've seen no indication that Getty stuff will be trucked in.
I agree there has been no indication so far, having said that I can imagine after the "success of agency" Getty trying to milk the last drops of blood out of their billion and trillions of photos on file.

It wouldn't interest me, It doesn't make sense selling outright unless the price was much higher, maybe if it worked out at a price equivalent to time taken x typical freelance rates per hour

I've got 240 ratings on my photos 239 of them are 5/5 someone gave me a 4/5
Imagine if you gave someone a 1/5 wouldn't that be a nice way to make friends.
The other nice way to make friends is flag peoples photos on dreamstime for incorrect keywords. I will never do that again.

Is there a way for independent stock sites to work together as peers in order to drive traffic? A directory of sites would be a beginning but lists are not so useful. A hub needs to provide search across multiple independent sites. One site which takes people to other sites.
There would need to be agreed standards from go. The independent peer sites perhaps all submitting their updated keywords, links, comp links, to an agreed format and structure. The hub would be a database of that data. And to be completely cell like perhaps everyone in the guild also puts that search box on their own site as part of the agreement. Then everyone is linked to everyone else. Any ideas ?
I'd support something like this.
Thank you Whiz for showing your nice site...look what you have started now...
Thanks Alias, I definitely like that idea. In other words...the hub would not need to carry any images, it could basically be a search engine hooked up to our sites. Search results would show thumbnails and images residing on our servers. One or two person would need to be paid to administer the hub. Quality guidelines, rules, price schemes, type of licenses and contractual terms would need to be established and accepted by all wanting his site hooked up to the hub. The buyer would have the choice to either search images from the hub or thereafter search an individual independent site.
sounds like an angency to me
