Tell me how any 2 of the 200 inspectors are supposed to judge the exact same thing on a borderline image.

It is well know that images that are "photoshopped a lot" are not likely to get in.  Luck may have smiled upon you the first time.

Oh, and if you're going to rant, you should post the images.

It all depends on your subject, quality and skill, for any site.  1000 crappy pictures of trees won't do much better than 5 good concept images.

Doesn't seem like a big deal.  More like a new pay per download program.  Credits good for a year like iStock - check.  $50 for 5 large images, like iStock - check.  Less than %20 - %30ish percent to contributor.

Not a bad plan, but nothing groundbreaking.

In response, for contributor convenience and customer benefit we made these options opt-out. Very few contributors opt-out which tells us that these revenue opportunities are viewed positively by virtually the entire Stockxpert community.

In other words, people didn't want to do it, so we made them do it by default.

This whole thing still sounds shady.  I'm glad you guys are going over it with a fine toothed comb.  Still sounds like they want to take advantage of you.

Our customers want the fresh, stylized images that you're producing and selling on Stockxpert.

So, why don't they move their asses over to StockXpert?

I see nothing about changing the EULA.  If you still offer your images on photos.com, you get to give away your rights without compensation.  I think I'm going to take the Paul C. route and start selling calendars.

We've definitely learned an important and valuable lesson in how we need to engage with you in the future.

ie,. we're going to sugar coat everything, so you have no idea how we're screwing you over.

This was announced by an admin in the StockXpert forums about an hour ago.

'It is coming but they are in the US, so it might be a little late if you're in Europe.
You won't be disappointed though!'

So it sounds like it is going to  be good news.

Yes, probably $.31 for the EL standard photos.com license ;)

eta: "I'm told the e-mail will be sent within the hour."

Interesting thing he doesn't have a hand in it.  You think he'd write it and it would get sent.

Saw this over there:
"We have received a great deal of feedback on the changes we announced a week ago. Thank you to all of those who have posted here and participated in the town hall call we held on Thursday. The StockXpert team is working on a message that will be sent to all contributors later today. Please bear with us."

I bet the message is "suck it up!".

We're inviting you to participate in a conference call on Thursday 7/31 at 2pm Easter to discuss these changes further. We want to be as open as we can about this.

That doesn't sound like anything is going to change...

Right, and the market has sort of decided that isn't "fair" (see all the new $1 for anything sites that quickly disappear), so we've sort of established what is "fair" these days.  Somewhat limited rights (keep usage to promotional work), anywhere from $3ish to$20ish based on size.

CAUTION, PESSIMISM AHEAD:
If your IS portfolio hasn't yet been affected by subs hang onto your hats. IS is not about to be undercut. With the seemingly unending flood of images, contributors,  and new sites  coming on-line economics will dictate lower prices.

Nah, we already did "lower prices".

I would wait for the 5d upgrade.  It really isn't worth the cost.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Help me out with the rest.
« on: July 23, 2008, 07:22 »
I am looking for time quotes from people that do their online managing with some degree of effort and not just as fast as can be done. Time quotes on if you where to do it the way the agency wanted you to do it applying three categories where possible and not just one and so forth.

Don't take my "2 second" comment as some kind of statement meaning I don't put effort into it.  It is a tool that speeds up your workflow.  So yes, the first one may take some time (ie, a few minutes if you copy and paste, or start from scratch), but subsequent images are much quicker.

But other people may have their own systems for speeding up workflow.  And different times for first in a series vs. similars.  And differences in keywords needed for complex shots vs. apples on white.  Etc... etc...

iStock takes me about two seconds, because I use deepMeta.

Again, with people's workflow, I don't see what you're shooting for here.

I'm not sure what results you are going to get, since any upload depends on the internet connection, the receiving server speed, the size of the image (1600x1200 vs. 5000x3500 is a bit of a difference), any associated releases and their speed.  There's too many variables to make any kind of statistic useful without more details.

I use WS_FTP for my istockvideo work.  I like the way it makes it easy to keep your various sites open, or at least accessible.

Yeah, split the adsense money.  Hey, the ads are for paid stock sites.  Guess who isn't going to click on those?  The people at a free stock site!

"Free" is in the past.  Didn't work.  Serious buyers know you have to pay something for a product you can trust.

7595
The former.  Admire skill more thank luck :)

7596
How come you haven't changed your site to not look like iStock yet?

7597
But you don't.  This isn't the "Free Speech for All" forum.  It is the "General Stock Discussion" section, and insulting fellow contributors isn't the best kind of free speech anyways.

« on: July 15, 2008, 12:24 »
You might have a point regarding the term 'indoors' but shouldn't 'school' and 'education' be essential keywords for a textbook shot?

No.  "textbook" would be an essential keyword.  The rest are spam.

I didn't say anything about censoring him.  I said adding that tag in the title is not free reign to go off on any subject you want to.

We can all see who started the thread by the forum software.  Posting that stupid tag in every title does not give the right to litter the forum with his random rantings and insults.
