Finally, I can see some sales figures on the ESP site (under Royalties.) Though it only provides information for 1 January 2017 (not sure if that includes payment information for the previous month or not.) Is there any way that I can check sales for earlier months too? The last time I was able to see my sales was months ago and I had accumulated $20. The current 1 January 2017 statement only displays a total of $10.50 so I'd like to see all those missing dollars.

Normally, I would recommend Sony Movie Studio - it's quite a versatile program and easy to learn. It covers most of my needs. However, there is one major disadvantage - the lack of a serious 1080p option. You can output videos at 1080p but only as a rather obscure file format that's not recognised by many devices and at a low bitrate.

General - Stock Video / Re: Much interest in interlaced footage?« on: February 18, 2017, 18:09 »Interlaced is extremely outdated. There is no need for it. Unless your'e going to Bluray. 50i is one of the standards supported by Bluray, as well as 24p. But yea for stock footage, I can see that I'm going to have to re-edit and re-upload my videos as progressive. If you don't want to purchase other software I'm sure there are many free options: Thanks for the link. I'm currently scrolling though the list. I haven't used Lightworks but I thought I recall reading some years ago that the maximum resolution that software could output is 1280 x 720p. Is that still the case or does it support 1920 x 1080 as well these days? 783
General - Stock Video / Re: Much interest in interlaced footage?« on: February 16, 2017, 07:44 »You are not limited by your software, instead why do you limit yourself to using that software? For years, I was using ultra cheap, crappy NLE software like Ulead Video Studio and Windows Movie Maker and I was tired of the restrictions. Less then a few years ago, I made a small investment in what I thought was a good, versatile NLE program - Sony Movie Studio. Well I was mostly right - it turned out to be pretty * good in most respects and could do just about anything that I wanted with regards to video editing. Though I was really surprised that there was no serious 1920 x 1080 25p option. I just assumed that it would be there amongst the output options. Btw, I did get Adobe Premier Elements bundled together with another Adobe program I bought but I haven't used it as yet. There could be a chance that this might offer a progressive full HD option. Hmmm....looks like I'm going to have to re-upload just about all my videos. 784
General - Stock Video / Much interest in interlaced footage?« on: February 15, 2017, 09:41 »
Just wondering if many tv broadcasters or production companies make use of interlaced footage footage or do they mainly prefer progressive? Most of my footage on the stock sites is interlaced (1920 x 1080 50i) because I don't have much choice in the matter. I'm limited by the software that I use - Sony Movie Studio. With Sony Movie Studio, I can create 1280 x 720p (25p) clips or 1920 x 1080 (50i) clips no problem. But for some strange reason, I cannot create a 1920 x 1080 25p video with this software. Well actually, there is a preset that will allow me to export a 1920 x 1080 25p video with Movie Studio but only as an obscure file format that's not recognised by many devices and with a pitifully low bitrate. In other words - pointless.
I have had one 50i video clip sell but I'm not sure if that was just luck. So what's the general consensus - Is there much demand for interlaced HD footage? 785

Currently viewing ESP on Firefox. Unfortunately, that makes no difference to the iStock Creative Image Batch tab. There is still no drop down option for editorial.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: ESP« on: February 14, 2017, 04:41 »The navigation is lousy, but uploading is surprising fast and easy compared to the old iStock uploader. No more custom dictionary nonsense. Gosh, I hated that. I didn't really see the point of clarifying the meaning of certain keywords you added. I was tired of ticking or unticking the box next to the line: "Did you mean....?" And bad news for any keywords that their dictionary didn't recognise. I use scientific names in a number of my images of wildlife and plants and so many times, iStockphoto didn't recognise these words and omitted them. Same deal with names of certain locations. I remember there was a time when you could request iStockphoto to add the omitted keywords but then later on, they refused to do so. Consequently, you were put at a disadvantage when people searched for your image and there wasn't a thing you could do about it. 787

iStockPhoto.com / Re: ESP« on: February 13, 2017, 08:58 »Top left of the ESP submission page is a box that says Istock creative submission (or something like that). There's a drop down on that to change it to Istock Editorial. When I'm logged into ESP, there's no drop down option on the iStock Creative Image tab. 789
iStockPhoto.com / Re: ESP« on: February 13, 2017, 08:05 »In the "My Content box" on the home page click "upload and review content", then click the green button "+new submission", it will generate and show you a new tab titled "Submission batch istock creative image" with "upload files" in it, drag them on there or click the + and you can upload away I still can't work out how to mark submitted images as editorial. 790

Okay, I got the image deleted by request (I left a note for the Getty team.) Now, Ive uploaded the same image again but I still can't work out how to mark it as editorial. If I click on the text on the top left of the screen that says: "Submission Batch: iStock Creative Image", nothing happens. Maybe iStock have become like Fotolia - no editorial submissions.

Off Topic / Bluray burning software recommendations?« on: February 12, 2017, 09:21 »
Just wondering if anyone could recommend some Bluray burning software that is relatively easy to use / has a shallow learning curve? I have Powerdirector 9 but after looking at youtube tutorials, I find it pretty complex and daunting. I also have DVD Architect 5.0 but I'm not fond of exporting video and audio files seperately (is that normal for Bluray authoring or that unique to that particular software?) Anything else out there that offers a simple and no fuss solution?

Ive been flying quadcopters for a little over three years. Most of that time was spent on cheap toy grade quads. I started with a Syma X1 - full manual control / no gps. First few months of flying weer really tough - I had three fly aways with three seperate Syma X1s and none of them were ever found. Later on, I acquired a Syma X8C which Ive had for a while now. It's probably the cheapest quad that can lift a GoPro. Ive done a few aerial videos with the Syma X8C and GoPro combination though it's not really suitable for stock footage - no gimbal and the landing gear is visible in the frame (despite using DJI wide skids.) Still great fun though. Two of my videos can be seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9390lm0JXIc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKgMWGXqDxs Maybe one day, I can purchase a more expensive quad for stock footage. I do have a second hand DJI Phantom 2 which came with a bad battery. No gimbal though. As for legalities, no problem here as I am in Australia. In this country, you can fly a UAV for commercial gain without a license as long as the craft weighs less than 2kg. 793
Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Will you retouch your stock footage?« on: February 12, 2017, 00:12 »Well that reduces the chances of a sale as well Although ungraded footage may look less appealing, I guess in some circumstances, it might increase the chance of a sale if a media company is after untouched footage to colour grade themselves. By the way, I made a video sale just recently with an ungraded clip. 794
Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Will you retouch your stock footage?« on: February 11, 2017, 09:36 »
I was reading on another forum that there was one particular stock agency (can't recall which one) that recommended that submitted videos should have no (or at least very minimal) colour grading. In other words a very neutral look. The reason being is that companies buying the footage will do their own grading to match the clip with the rest of the project's footage.

Off Topic / Re: Burning video files to Bluray?« on: February 11, 2017, 03:45 »
Ah MPEG2 - just like DVD burning. So I guess my m2t files should be fine. That makes me puzzled why those businesses all requested MOV files for their Bluray burning. And they were creating the kind with menus, scene selection etc.

Off Topic / Re: Burning video files to Bluray?« on: February 11, 2017, 01:42 »
I definitely don't want a data disc. What I want is a disc that will play in a Bluray player that is connected to a TV (just like ones that you'd hire from Blockbuster etc) with a menu. So you reckon MOV files won't work for this?

Off Topic / Burning video files to Bluray?« on: February 11, 2017, 00:59 »
This weekend, I'm going to start burning video files to Bluray disc (something Ive never done before.) My query is about the file type that would be acceptable for the authoring process. Currently, the video files that I want to put on Bluray are MPEG 2 / .m2t. Ive noticed in the past when Ive enquired at commercial businesses about burning Blurays, they've always requested MOV files. I was put off by their steep prices so I decided to buy a Bluray burner of my own. However, should I convert my videos to MOV first or would they be fine as they are? I believe the authoring software that came with the burner is PowerDirector 9.

Okay one of the images refuses to delete. I don't know why. Every time I click on 'Delete', I get a message that says: "Are you sure you want to delete the selected 1 file(s)?" But no matter how many times I click 'Delete', the image still remains.

Thanks for that - I was looking all over the place for that option. Ive located the last bunch of images that Ive submitted. I'll try deleting some of the ones that are pending for review. I want to delete the ones intended for editorial and resubmit them the proper way.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Resolution, to begin with« on: February 10, 2017, 18:23 »It was good, but it seems to me that you can earn a lot more money with photos. A single video sale can lead to a payout (that's what happened to me on Shutterstock.) Before that video sale, it would have taken me quite some time to reach payout with just photo sales. |
