I wonder if when clip art started to change (and be called "vectors", and "font" became "typeface") if the illustrators said "that new stuff will never catch on, it's not quirky and cute enough".

yeah, that password bit of theirs is unnecessarily tricky.

AFAIK all your DX lenses will fit, but you will be shooting in cropped mode. but isn't that like putting cheap sneakers on an athlete?

there's still plenty of "proper"images there, ie nicely exposed, crisp with true to life colouring. Like Sean's work. it's not all gloomy and blue temp lomo'd cupcakes  (not that there's anything wrong with that!) :)

I would not know what and how to shoot to make pictures like that.

I would :) cos I shoot editorial for a magazine and that's how they like it, and up til now I've had less success getting that work across as stock with the usuals. oh, now I'm dying to be accepted!

there's clearly no camera list, as the first image I clicked on was taken with a D90.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: PP for Feb has begun

mine is full of holes, and yes 7-11 is empty (9/10 is the weekend), as are 16-18 (16/17 being the weekend).  But then I don't always get daily PPs on iStock.

*got a few through this arvo for the end of the month*

One proposal that would make the issue less important:
If SS would assign image IDs (which I believe is the key for the "newest" sort order) after acceptance and not after upload, a longer review time would not lead to a disadvantage in search order...

Essentially the "newest" search should sort after time accepted, not time uploaded.
Excellent
ah, that also explains what you mean by being disadvantaged in the "newness" race. I wasn't quite understanding the problem but now I get it, anything I upload today is marked as 25March, so if it takes 2 weeks to review it's already "old" by the time it goes live? Is that really how it works at SS?

812
cool, i'll give it a go. thanks.

.... still doesn't work for me, won't open.
wait, seems when i dragged in the newer version it sat behind the other one. deleted, retried, it opens!
having a play now.

I've not noticed any real delay, @ two days, might be at 3 for my last batch. having a great month, I'm happy.
Thats great for you, but really shocking to find out. Monday I will be on 17 days, as are many others. You have a review in 3 days. If this is general practice then my images will go live somewhere on page wherever, without any chance of every become best sellers. I know its subject related, but these different review times are not fair.
subject related?

17 days?! ouchie.

well I've posted a reply at iS, but honestly I'm feeling like anyone who dares to complain will be discriminated against in terms of sales, search and file acceptance.

816
true, hard to pull all this together in a month, but they must be smiling at the way iStock has aided them.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Trademark, Logo, Patent
« on: March 21, 2013, 04:19 »
this topic has been covered, but it's certainly interesting. I saw a stock pic the other day of a Land Rover Defender on the beach, which is a very distinctive vehicle. Even if you take off the badging it's pretty obvious what it is. i had refrained from posting similar pics - we also have a Defender - for fear of the "trademark" rejection.

Vann, you better have a HUGE portfolio to pay for travel gas in 15 years.  It's our biggest expense.  And the way it's going up, it'll be at least $10 bucks a gallon by then! :o
unless we're on biodiesel or solar? yeah, not holding my breath.
might have to think about doing the grey nomad thing in Europe, where the distances aren't quite so great.

Off Topic / Re: Snacks have been saved
« on: March 20, 2013, 19:46 »

You need to do more research Brian.

That is sounding really fringe. Your body doesn't look at the ingredients you ingest and file it into different locations.

uh, i'm no scientist but I am a woman and I'm pretty sure eostrogen gets stored in certain locations (like in our tummy and bum fat cells, which is what makes some of us so delightfully curvy)

when my mum went through menopause she bored me to death educated me with her research on eostrogen rich foods to try to combat the sudden losses.

I thought the concept of "low GI" also supports the notion that your body does indeed look at the ingredients you ingest and deals with it in a particular manner.

There was a pretty controversial book published here a few years ago called Sweet Poison (written by a lawyer of all people) that has jumped on the "sugar is evil" bandwagon. Just adding that into the pile of references.

.
There's an old saying that "the printers profit is in the stationery cupboard".

oh that makes me feel old if there's an "old" saying about ink cartridges... :)

Really, more of a part-time thing, but it is my only "job".  My husband and I are retired and we travel the country with a 27ft RV.  We don't depend on micro to pay any bills, but it sure is nice having that money magically appear in my personal paypal online shopping account every month.  Especially for something I'd be doing anyway (photographing America).

We have things in common.  Wife and I travel a lot but not full-time.
And we are retired, supplementing the income with Stock ... and an Occasional assignment -- Motocross or Supercross Races.
hopefully that'll be me in 15 years, and my port should be large enough to pay for fuel and holiday snacks?  :D

I'm a freelance photographer and I usually consider I only work part-time hours, as I have 3 children to juggle also. I do stock in the down times. I don't want to do it full-time, I like my client work more.

Plus one to that Veneratio.  The requests posted on Twitter are great, but the more information we can access easily on what's trending and on any identified gaps in the collections, the more we can help SS to help us. :)

As Veneratio says, the less time we have to spend researching, the more time we can spend shooting... and the sooner you'll have those images in the collection.  Win/win :)
+1
cos I really don't like Twitter
