hes going up with a go pro on his helmet and a dslr to get aerial shots to sell them on microstock for $0.30 @ - he is trying to carve out a niche for himself since every other possible subject is saturated...

instead of a batch going to a single reviewer , they should set it up that batches get split up and tossed around to different reviewers There would be less of a chance of 100% this way or that way, also less of a chance that a reviewer having a bad day will just do a 'blanket' judgement of an entire batch..
just sayin...

Just get an iphone - those other cameras cant text or make any calls - can you say 'useless?'
A father was visiting his son and asked for a newspaper. Incredulous, the son said, "No one buys newspapers any more. We just check on our iPhones." Disquieted, the father said, "OK, give me your iPhone then!" The fly never knew what had hit it.
HA! Good one!

This will make stock a tougher business to be in...
Being a publicly traded company, there will be enormous and constant pressure for earnings growth - after all growing earnings is what justifies and grows the share price for a company. If earnings are stagnant, then share price will be at best stagnant So one must take an overview of the entire industry - are microstock sales going to keep growing from growing demand, or is the market already saturated, and competitors, who are they, do they pose a threat to taking some earnings away from ss?
I think that sooner or later ss will not be as good a place as it has been up til now for image contributors view - they will have to continue to grow profits by a/ getting new customers to buy their product ( how? one way is by being very competitive with pricing) and b/ by taking a bigger share of the pie ( i.e. lowering contributors commissions)
this is just the way I see things, but I hope theyprove me wrong in the long run
Personally I would rather invest in other sectors that will be guaranteed to see growth because of the worlds growing population and everything that it entails.

That is an interesting question -
If I buy , say, a LE Robert Bateman print, then I am assuming as a collector that there is going to be only xx number of prints out there signed and numbered. But it is also a fact that there are numerous copies of same Robert Bateman print that are NOT numbered and signed that would be worth a small fraction of what the LE editions go for,or in other words there worth almost nothing to a collector.
So, that is the case of what is already being done on the market out there... the LE, signed and numbered prints are worth something, while the unnumbered and unsigned prints are worth only a few bucks.

this is nothing new and has been happening since day 1 and will continue to happen.. the thing I found most offensive is the naiveity or just plan lack of intelligence on this newbs part to openly brag about it on the forum - what possible good can come from doing this?
outright plagerism is dead wrong, but for others to shoot similars , well, theres just no stemming that tide.
even when someone comes up with a unique idea ( i.e finger people) it is only a matter of time before there are a boatload of similars, its just part of the business - all you can do is think of the next new idea and make sure your work stands out with regard to quality.
Look at the bigger world of manufacturing - X product is made - not long thereafter imitations crop up for cheaper ( i.e. China) What to do? Make sure your product is superior in quality... thats all

I decide what I need, go to B&H and order it.
+1 the difference between used and new esp. lenses is negligable for brand name lenses - I would rather have new and the warranty If you want older used cameras - then yes here you can save some money but generally I always buy new from BH - theyre service and prices are great

I emailed them and said I wanted my 12,96 dollars paid. They said I could give it to a buyer. If i had an expensive attorney for cheap, i would sue them.
Before you sue them I'd read the terms and conditions because it probably says that they get to keep it if its below payout.
I'd think that processing the payment would cost them less than hasselling around responding to emails and alike.
As a lark, just keep on emailing them for your money... see how far you can push them. hey for $13 it would be a blast..haha

How cool! Great to know, Noodle. Thanks for posting! Which couple was it, BTW? I have two senior couples that pose for me on a regular basis.
Click, I am glad you see my pics all over. I rarely ever find them. Maybe I should stop looking for them and I would see more
the couple on the top right on your homepage ... in fact it was that very image

I was in Carcross Yukon 2 weeks ago, with my wife at the local visitaion center to get our passports stamped (as a souvenier of our visit) when I saw a flyer displayed on their information board promoting travel to Alaska with a shot of an older couple I thought looked familiar.. it is one of the pics you have displayed on your website homepage . I pointed it out to my wife and said 'that couple looks familiar.." lol just thought I'd share that, since I was in the boonies, and to see how/where any one of our photos may appear seems pretty cool... well, I thought it was cool..

Apple is a very innovative company - but like any high tech company, when you are on top - there is only one way to go Who will be next in coming out with a new and killer product or app? That is always the million dollar question...
when that happens the slogan will be Apple ... rotten to the core ... lol

just wondering - if there were a dramatic decline in contributors uploading to ms sites, considering that the bigger ones have ~ over 20M pics in the database, wouldn't at some point this business be self-sustaining? I mean with 20M+ photos/illust that has got to cover just about any subject one could think of and have a huge number of images to choose from as well.
Just saying that at some point , when earning pennies for your time to produce and finish an image really is no longer of any profit, the agencies will still have their huge library that they can continually churn out profits from. For them I dont think they'll ever come a time when they will be pressured to raise comms for the contributors... it will either continue to drift lower until a static point is reached.
Of course thats just my $0.02

I am already prepared to stop UL there if their proposed comm scheme carries through. Its already low, but that would be the last straw for me, and hopefully everyone else When they tried to pull this sheet a year ago, their were getting flamed by everyone, and I think thats why they decided to back down for a year - that shows there is some power in OUR hands as the contributors. Now we will have to unite again when Jan 2013 rolls around, so be prepared...
