General Stock Discussion / Re: New microstock agency.
« on: May 20, 2012, 07:40 »
how much are you paying for uploads?

878
Yeah this is by far the worst for a budding photographer, trying to grow a portfolio!
The smallest portfolio I have is with FT.
They reject my work like crazy.
I think I now have something stupid like an 8% acceptance ratio!!!!!!  ???
That's insane!!!!!!!

I'm actually beginning to think this is personal.
Most of the same images get accepted at SS, CS, 123, DT etc.
Seems FT is the absolute worst for me.

I'm frustrated. Maybe I'll start taking advice mentioned earlier and not submit anything nature related or anything that's not isolated on a white BG.
I'm ready to hurt someone around now - I'm mad!

what I think is frustrating on many sites oonce you have a certain percentage of acceptance/rejection - they will stick to that same ratio - even if you upload a batch of techniqly sound good stock photos - the magic ration will be applied.
So if your acceptance ratio is 8 % - I bet that if you uploaded a batch of great photos - only 10% will get accepted - no matter what.
Kind of crappy, but thats the way it is

I dont think any keyword gives you license to do anything that is beyond what the actual license terms outline ... so no worries there.
But santos  - try your best to get on shutterstock and the big 4 agencies - it wont be easy ( I think people who got into ms 6 + years ago had a cakewalk , not only getting in, but cashing in on sales on just about any stock photos they had in their portfolios) but if you get accepted, you will have way better sales than with canstock or any other smaller agency.

Just keep trying until you are accepted - dont take no for an answer...

880
wow! that is a very unprofessional response - i guess they figure, your pulling your port, so screw you
its surprising how many today lack common courtesy and manners when dealing with other people

881
That gives a fair idea of what the average micro buyer is after, doesnt it?  dont give a toss about quality. The average micro buyer is a punter, not an art-director.

agreed - but then why oh why do some of the MS agencies go ape$h!t in rejecting images that may have a small flaw when viewed at 200%?
Riddle me that Batman...

had first sale yet?  ;)

$ 0.30 sub

I might add - they are stringent/unreliable when it comes to acceptance/rejection of photos... I think there was a poll here and dt was the worst when it comes to this.
So, after doing all that work work to get a file ready and uploaded, and then to have it come back as rejected is somethings that really pisses me off, and Im probably not alone.

Actually, why dont most sites accept or reject your file and THEN have you fill in any info that is needed to put it on their site? I guess that would be too easy of a process..

I would say upload, because it is still an ok  earner for most people.

884
I doont think he will impact the cost side for microstock- although his portfolio is huge for AN INDIVIDUAL, it is small potatoes compared to the MILLIONS of photos the agencies have to offer to customers - plus, as someone mentioned, many of his images are redundant i.e. business people , so the choice of variety that customers need is severly restricted in his port

885
i dont think ANY site will kick him out - if yuris making a crapload  of $ -  then the bigger portion of it is going to the agency, month after month. No one is going to throw away guaranteed  income unless the the advantage is in their favour.

So, in the end , the agancys will still benefit from having his port to sell, and Yuri will make even better with what he sells at the agencies + his own site ..

CHAAA CHIIINGGGG!!!!

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Minimum standards on istock?
« on: April 27, 2012, 19:31 »
getting onto istock will be WAY more harder than getting accepted at canstock... so get using your new camera and make some good stock shots that have a purpose behind them.

New Sites - General / AYCS - Now offering EL for images
« on: April 25, 2012, 17:20 »
Just got an email from AYCS that their offering extended licences as an option for images - the wording puts no limit on the amount of prints, copies, etc that can be made under the EL

and the artist can set their EL cost to 5X, 8X, or 13X the price for a large image...

I like the fact their branching out in options for clients and ways to make money for artists, but I hate the fa t that there's no cap on the production run limit for using an image

What say you?

AYCS - very few views and ZERO sales for me thus far - hell I didnt even get one or two from the beginning to entice me to upload  :'(

Anyway, I have a number of images there, and I will give it a year to see if things go anywhere
Everyone has to start from small beginings I suppose, but I would like to at least see more traffic which would be evidence of a marketing stratedgy going in the right direction.

You really need to have some good business connections and incentives for businesses to come and buy from your goods...

894
how about renting a canon 5d mark2 - this camera is unbeleivable in high iso exposure
I dont know ehat the budget of the client is but I would have that as an option

« on: April 08, 2012, 21:55 »
i am not uploading until I see evidence that wild and irrational rejections issue has been deaalt with and fixed, then I will upload the rest of my port...

897
I'm going to throw my laptop.... :'(

898
Now this is very discouraging!!
I just failed my 3rd attemt to pass the istock entry test - I am by no means on a professional level as are many stock photographers, but after submitting a variety of images , all of which I think are technically sound, and getting a fail, and seeing something like this is totally disheartening.
Is the approval process more stringent and once your accepted, are they more lenient? Is that the case with istock? Many have said that recently the approval process is much more strict than in years past - maybe a photographer of my skill has missed the boat to agencies like this?

frustrated, but not giving up

General Stock Discussion / Re: Allyoucanstock Sales
« on: April 05, 2012, 14:58 »
at this point in time AYCS has only over 100,000 images - that is basically the ground floor in stock photography.
I suspect when they get closer to 500,000 images a few sales will start to trickle and nothing regular til they have at least 1M images in their databank.
Then again, having images is not worth a whole lot unless they make some good connections with regular buyers - this takes skillful marketing.
I am hoping the best for them, since they have started out with favorable commission for the donators... I am willing to give them a year to see how the trend is going, then I will decide what to do if anything.

If a new agency was offering higher commissions, then sure, I'd be on board.  But if the commissions are lower, aren't we just racing ourselves to the bottom?

One new agency that may have potential is AYCS ; They are very new, but going against the grain of what we're used to seeing from every other agency  which is selling stock for pennies, at least they  allow you to set your own price, and on top of that are paying out 75% commission.
i decided to upload there and I know sales will initially be slow, but I think giving it a year or so may be a better investment than getting 25-30 cents per sale at some of the other newer sites

Its worth a look see:
