Shutterstock.com / Re: Change of Most popular
« on: May 11, 2013, 14:30 »
It was a big shuffle for my images but I don't know how it will affect sales.  I've seen a shuffle like this a few times in the last few months but it has only ever lasted a few days.  Perhaps they are tweaking their search or perhaps they are giving new images a chance to make their mark before they go back to the old system again (like they seemed to do the other times).. the images that rose in the new search will then have a better standing in the old search.

Jaincotech and keyindia are two completely different companies but both are targeting microstock photographers. Both were represented at the last microstock expo.

Jaincotech has been purchased by pro image experts now though, so they have changed names.

PhotoDune / Re: Model Releases on PhotoDune - what to do?
« on: May 09, 2013, 06:52 »
It took me ages to work out how to upload the releases to photodune but now that I have worked it out I prefer the system to most sites way of doing it.   No having to go back in and attatch releases individually.  It can be a real pain when you have a group model session where they don't all appear in every photo and this system saves a lot of work in that type of session.

Agreed - actually of all the release systems out there I'd say PhotoDune's was the easiest and best.  It requires uploading in batches sorted by shoot but really, that isn't a big deal even when my images aren't sorted that way to begin with.

well this isn't going to be easy :)  I'm not sure popular opinion is the best way to pick a logo either but it is really nice to have everyone's input.  I don't like #200 as my fav either but apparently lots of people do.

I thought 186 was rather clever.  I like logos that don't hit you across the head with the 'answer' of why they work.  I feel that one is in that category and feel the popular opinion picks a logo that is obvious.

I really like Shutterstock's logo but I don't think it would have been picked by popular choice.

I have voted on the 8 option and left a comment for each one.
Good luck in the final chose!

Thanks for the great feedback Lucato

There is also the option of keeping a list of the sites on the MicrostockGroup Wiki
http://www.microstockgroup.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

If anyone wants editing privledges on the wiki I'd be happy to add an account for them.  Ideally the log in and membership would be under the same account on there as here but I haven't got that to work yet.
Send me a PM if anyone wants to edit on the wiki.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Not 'sexy' anymore!?
« on: May 06, 2013, 03:35 »
Perhaps it was a clash with a second keyword you had.  Did you have teen or child in the keywords as well for some reason.  There might be more 'disallowed' pairs .. young and sexy? - I'm not sure what they all are but know there are some.

Perhaps we should just continue in this thread

The selection in Round 2 is a little unfair. You've got something like 6 logos that are variations of the same theme and two others that are distinctly different. What happens is that votes will be spread out over the 6 benefiting the the other two.

I don't quite understand. You can vote for as many as you like and give as many 5s or 1s as you like. The face that most are variations shouldn't play into it at all.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shuffle on Shutter today
« on: May 02, 2013, 12:43 »
Today, Thursday, is also HORRIBLE, like $5 again.  There has to be something else happening. They must have tweaked their best match, but I am on track to make $100 this month when I make 6-8 times that per month.

Um. I think we need to wait more than 1.5 days out of 31 to decide how much we will make this month!

Site Related / Re: Alamy Added to Poll Results

If I put in earnings from Alamy does that mean my Istock numbers will be counted as nonexclusive?

hmm.. yes I guess it will

My sales yesterday on a number of sites were way down - the total sales were just better than a good weekend (half usual income).  I'm chalking it up to be due to a holiday in many countries.

964
Thanks everyone.
I've now started a new thread with a new poll... the finalists.
http://www.microstockgroup.com/site-related/pick-the-new-logo-for-microstockgroup-%28round-2%29/

965
Ok.. a new round of logos - also the last round as the contest is now closed.
http://99designs.com/logo-design/vote-u92fnv

Feel free to give your thoughts and critique.  Also, remember to give low votes for the ones you don't like so the logos get ranked properly

966
Here's a screenshot of the swatch.

967

The contest is still going on...

Only for the designers that you chose, correct?

Right, I picked 8 finalists so it is now closed to them.

Also, the reason lots of the logos look very similar is because one designer has made most of the variations.

968
Yeah, from the votes I can easily see no matter what I choose someone is going to hate it :)  In the end I just have to choose something I like.

The logo entrants all all the same color because I requested the designers to pick from a color pallete I made on Adobe's Kuler.  Here's a link (I think you have to be logged in to see it)
https://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/2408329
The colors aren't set in stone, they are just a set of colors I like.  I like natural, muted retro tones.  If someone wants to set up a different swatch of colors for a potential new site I'd be interested in seeing some good combinations.

The contest is still going on and there have been a few more nice logos added. I'll create a second poll in a day or two.  Thanks for all the votes and comments, it has been very helpful.

969
"A logo does not need to tell the story about your business. In fact I would say it's better if it didn't."

But all of them do.  They all/mostly depict 'communication' in some way, which just seems like an easy way out.

Not #41 ..

970
How about:

1.  A lens (would cover stills and video)
2.  A pencil (would cover all forms of illustration)
3.  A speech bubble (purpose of MSG)

Wouldn't that be simple enough and keep all providers happy? (Hope I haven't forgotten anyone...)

audio?

971
You've got some nice images but you could get them doing more activities instead of just head shots.  I like close crops for portraits but also get full body portraits as well.  Then get them doing stuff, get them taking pictures, playing video games, riding bikes outdoors, hiking, playing soccer etc.etc.

972
One could also argue that 132 has a speech bubble with creativity bubbles coming out the top ;)

973
I'm also (in the long term) planning an update of the site here in terms of looks and colors which is why the logo doesn't match the site.  The colors in the logo are easy to change though either way.

974
Yeah, it could make sense to have the bubble on the group since that is the part of the word meaning discussion.  I don't mind it saying micro stock group though because micro is just part of what we are.  We are first stock photographers/illustrators etc. .. then second, microstock photographers etc.

I agree with the bubble think in the O, it's unnecessary and a bit distracting

975
I'm not sure if this is important to you but none of them seem to relate to photography.

I specifically requested that it not be just be about photography because this site also includes audio, video and illustration.
