oic.. so i am not the only one to think it is bad logic.

however, i wonder are most of the buyers look for a jpg or a eps vector?

i uploaded all my illustration as vector in fotolia, i am not sure the sales difference if i upload as raster jpg.

do you think most buyer will search as 'illustration' ticked instead of 'vector'?

but i notice in fotolia, if you search with 'illustration' filter on, your vector file won't not appear in the search results, unless the buyer tick 'vector'. In this case, even the vector file had raster jpg for sale, if won't be the search result under 'illustration' are ticked.

I was under the impression that SS was pretty much the only site where you were allowed to upload them as separate files, as most of the others let you chose whether to buy a jpeg or vector version from the same image.

I mentioned this in fotolia forum loooong time ago.. Good luck with your effort.. I no longer have the will to let them know about their faulty search engine that doesn't show vectors as illustrations.. Like vectors are not illustrations.. And no, you can't submit JPEG versions.. They will refuse it..

New Sites - General / Re: Photaki?
« on: September 06, 2010, 03:13 »
I had taken a look on this website and registered. It seems quite good but i am a bit disappointed at this moment, i tried to move my images to get it published and always got an error message.

you are required to upload 10 images for approval, and before you got accepted, you are not able to accept the contributor interface.

on the website is showing as low as 0.20Euro, so i guess it means the lowest you will get paid is 0.10Euro? it seems a new low for subscription rate. But i think the subscription rate is available only if the buyer bought 1000 download package..for cheaper subscription plan the rate is normal as other website.

since it is a spanish website, sometimes there are parts of the website isn't able to translate to english.

I found out there is no option to edit keywords and delete your image, so i am not sure is there a lock up period for your files. I had sent an email but got no replies.

I gave it a try since it target spain and i think it may have a new market for it?

overall, i think it is promising.. here is my referral link.

it offer some good statistic tool, like you can browse a map for images available at different countries.
thank you.

Hi all,

Do you sell eps vector and raster jpg as 2 files? i know there are different practice in every websites..would like to know how you do it.
even thought some website generate jpg of vector file for sale, but I notice some search engine will filter out vector format if buyer only search illustration, instead of vectors.

shutterstock, usually it is encourage to upload as eps vector and jpg as 2 separated files, since the vector files will not be sold as raster image.

istock, a vector format is available for raster image so there is no reason to sell as another raster jpg file.

fotolia, I notice that if you search on 'illustrations', the vector image won't be in the results, it seems upload another raster jpg will improve the sale?

dreamstime? i am not sure how the search engine know is it illustration of photos.. it seems the search engine won't know which is  photos or which is illustrations.

any website will rejected raster jpg sold as another file?

Adobe Stock / Re: fotolia - similar images appear in same series
« on: September 05, 2010, 00:22 »
I read in their forums that it is based on categories, but i guess keywords also parts of it.

But the important thing is, it is not accurate at all. I got an illustrations that break into 2 sets, and they were in the same series, but recently the same series images appear as other image that i uploaded recently. and i notice that the only 1 file are sold nowaday, instead of 2 files together as it used to be sold.

Pixmac / Re: Big ambition from Pixmac [Press Release]
« on: September 04, 2010, 05:50 »
I wonder any updates on the portfolio issue on pixmac? are all portfolio from dreamstime and fotolia are available through pixmac now? thanks.

Thank you guys (BaldricksTrousers and donding) for commenting on the quality. We've been testing a lot which is the finest and it should be really tuned in our collection. But what I'm sure is not good is the re-saving we do with Fotolia images because what we get is 400px files and double save definitely kills red colors. I'm actively communicating with both supliers to give us better data and better quality service, but it's not always easy.

Thank you Anita Potter to find the 1970's bug. It's fixed already.

And mtkang, yes I'm sure it should be completely on Pixmac and I'm going to find out where's the problem. The developer that does that part of the site just left to vacation till 28th, so I'll be asking him to find out on next Monday 30th.

And Dirkr, how you can tell that? ;-) I'm the author of that photo and now I'm the exact position as many contributors are ;-) No, I'm joking... it was actually a snapshot for Simon...

Thank you all for the feedback!

Adobe Stock / fotolia - similar images appear in same series
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:03 »
Hi all,

when you click your image in fotolia, you will see a row of images from your porfolio appears as 'in the same series', anyone knows how the logic behind it?

my problem is i have 2 illustrations that are supposed as a set, it used to show each image as 'in the same series' and buyers do buy both images together. But i notice that the images 'in the same series' had changed to some of my images that uploaded recently, but not related at all.

is there anyway we can make the awareness for buyer that there is another image to complete the set? fotolia doesn't have description for image too, so i am not able to describe it as information too.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Who has had sales at Graphic Leftovers?
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:56 »
i got 2 sales in august, with around 150 files there. Both sales are vectors.

anyway, the uploading is so easy that you can just uploading it without more than few clicks. If you IPTC is in images then it will move directly to pending and get approved for sale.

uploading eps+jpg with IPTC for vectors. Photos are accepted too, but no photos with recognizable face.

and more important that the commission for contributors is 52%, it is hard not to support an agency that pays fair.

iStockPhoto.com / istock partner program
« on: September 02, 2010, 04:39 »
Hi all,

I would like to have this thread to understand what is going on with istock partner program.

We have the choice to opt in the files we want to be in partner programs..

what i understand is the partner program means to sell images and eps vector you opt in as $0.25 (if you are not exclusive), in thinkstock.com and photos.com, just this 2 website right?

I have opted in a few files but i notice it seems there are only some files are appearing on both site, i do a search 'xxxxx(your username)' and see only a few images are there. Does it take time for images to be available for partner program?

as a business oriented company, everything should be on schedule. Delay of reporting sales or payment is unprofessional.

so payout before this date shouldn't be taxed right?

in this case, there will be a rush of payment request..before 15 sep.

is there a date cut? like before the date all the payment isn't taxed?

if there is a date, contributors who got affected should drawn it before the date.

15th September

what is this? what is the reason a hubpage will gain more view than a blog?

so just let the generated jpg as it is?

998
hi all,

I uploaded my zip eps +jpg to yaymicro, and it seems the generated thumbnail make the colour different as what it supposed to be.

I don't know how to explain it, it is same as what thinkstock thumbnail for those vector.

it seems like the system is not able to generate as many colours as it should be.

what should i do? just leave it that way? it doesn't look nice and doesn't look like what my jpg preview is.

General Stock Discussion / Re: generate JPG as 300dpi
« on: August 30, 2010, 01:03 »
oic, so is it because designers few years back is obsessed with that setting. I think in photoshop, it is used as 'ppi' for jpg.

it seems it is not a 'real' resolution, but just an adjustment of resolution calculation.

anyway, i think moodboard had accepted other ppi nowadays, as i saw in their faq something like prefered 300 dpi but other dpi is also okay.

Oooh I cant tell you how much 300dpi has driven me mad over the years! I know why moodboard do it (tho they should accept images regardless of the DPI setting and change it to something consistent themselves) its because a few years back designers were completely obsessed with having images that were '300dpi', try telling them to change it in photoshop and they would tell you something like "i can't do that because if I up-sample it in photoshop it will go all blocky" arrrggghh. as cuppacoffee says it's all to do with what happens when you import the images into a publishing software that's why they like images that are set to 300dpi

shoot with nikon, they allways recording images in 300DPI... ;)

it wasn't for me, if you shoot raw then the default (at least for my setup) in ACR was to bring them in at 240dpi (not exactly nikons fault), just change it in the raw converter 300dpi and the problem is solved for every image you process. Leafs video is the work around for images that are already in jpg format

not sure how we ended up on lpi-dpi here, that general rule depends on what the output is, a 300dpi monochrome laser printer can resolve about 133lpi when printing its screen (halftone or whatever), but can resolve 300lpi when it prints just black and white text that is not screened

yes indeed - clear as mud lol

General Stock Discussion / generate JPG as 300dpi
« on: August 29, 2010, 04:45 »
Hi all,

I happened to read that there is an agency moodboard that needs a JPG which is 300 dpi, to my understand dpi is dot per inch that means it is a printing resolution?

I am not sure how to generate a 300dpi jpg, i notice my jpg file from camera is 240 ppi, that's pixel per inch? so does it matter?

and i am doing illustrations too, so when i generate jpg from eps vector using photoshop software, i can choose the number of ppi i need to generate, by default the value is 72 ppi. i had tried to generate 1 vector jpg as 300 ppi, but i can't see the difference too.

so what should we do with all this ppi and dpi?

can we set the resolution from our camera?
is it best to generate a 300ppi jpg from our vector?
