Envato / PhotoDune/All Marketplaces upgrade 16/2/12 AU Time
« on: February 15, 2012, 00:47 »
I just thought I'd cross post a forum thread from our site about an site upgrade we're going to be doing tomorrow afternoon (Australian time) as I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys who upload to PhotoDune are checking these forums much more often than ours ;-)

http://photodune.net/forums/thread/ruby-upgrade-around-noon-16212/59473 is the thread about the upgrade. I figure you'll all need special notice, as while the site will be down for a little while, I'm expecting the FTP and item import system to be down longer as the way they tie in together to the main site is more complicated and will take us longer to do the necessary work.

I'll be checking back here in the hours after the upgrade just in case, but I'd really prefer if you're a PhotoDune contributor and you find a bug/problem with our upgrade that you post it against the original thread on our forums (as it's all just a bit easier for us to manage stuff in one place)

@luissantos84 - We've fixed the performance problem on the author dashboard - it's still not an amazingly snappy page but it should be all OK now.

We're still getting the odd author here and there experiencing the problem of files getting stuck in "processing", that's pretty much next cab of the rank to get resolved.

Hey luissantos84,

I'll start digging into our error logs on the servers and see if I can find out what's going on.

I know a few authors have had some stability problems with PhotoDune, especially around the FTP/web form combo, and I just wanted to quickly apologise for that. It turns out working with photos at the rate you guys can all upload is a totally different ball game to things like web templates and the like on our other marketplaces, so we're on the back foot a bit.

Usually if you're having technical problems, contacting [email protected] is your best bet, all technical issues get assigned to the development team directly after a first pass over by the support staff.

Trying to upload my portfolio, but "processing" is killing me. 20 files took 3+ hours to process. After that uploaded 144 files and it's processing for 4 days already!

How uploading is working for you? Is there is a way to avoid painfully slow processing?

Hey everyone (and Andrey specifically), I'm the development manager on the envato marketplaces, of which PhotoDune is one. Collis asked me to pop over here and explain what was going on with uploading this weekend.

We've been experiencing some problems over the past couple of weeks where our dedicated photo-processing servers were starting to effect all of the live website traffic, so we'd disabled half of the servers until we can resolve the underlying problem. This was made worse over the weekend with half of our remaining photo servers getting stuck on particular photos and not working down our queue of jobs.

We should be quicker than we were over the weekend right now, and we're working as hard as we can on fixing the underlying problem so we can ramp the server count right back up and process everyone's files really quickly.
