Shutterstock.com / Any way to put images on hold?
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:47 »
Is there any way to put photos on a temporary hold after they are approved? In other words, can I temporarily disable their visibility?

Thank you.

Nikon / Nikon RAW problem.Urgent help please!!
« on: December 09, 2011, 09:22 »
Hello,

Please help me!I am facing a very bad problem.I shot a photo in RAW with my NIKON D5100.But it turns out that it is corrupt!I sooo wanted to upload it on the sites.

But the problem is very weird.

- The preview shows the complete file, so that does mean that data is present other wise it couldn't be read at the 1st place.

Here -

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/CC.JPG

- But when I try to edit it with capture NX or within the view NX itself, I get this -

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/CC2.JPG

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/CC4.JPG

- And when I try opening it with PS, I get this -

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/CC3.JPG

I so wanted to upload this as an editorial. It is 1 of those shots that I feel is unique.I dont have similars because it was those fraction of seconds where this guy gave this look before engaging with other tourists for group photos.I shot it at a time when other tourists left, and others were coming to him for some clicks.

PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS?I tried transferring the file on both 32 and 64 bits system.BUT SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS.

I can crop but it will look weird and more over I wanted to make some edits in the RAW editing softwares.

If I can see the whole image in the preview, that DOES MEAN THAT THE DATA IS PRESENT.HOW CAN I RECOVER IT AND FIX IT?

Yes, I STILL HAVE KEPT THE FILE IN THE MEMORY CARD JUST IN CASE I GET THE SOLUTION AND HAVE TO TRANSFER AGAIN.I TRANSFERRED USING THE USB PROVIDED WITH THE CAMERA.ALREADY CONTACTED NIKON SUPPORT BUT IN TURN THEY ASKED ME TO CONTACT THE LOCAL SUPPORT AND IN INDIA THERE IS NOTHING LIKE SUPPORT.TRUST ME.THE ANSWER I WOULD GET IS SORRY NOTHING CAN BE DONE.

So please help me..Please..

Adobe Stock / Just can't figure it out.Ya, the rejections.
« on: December 01, 2011, 07:28 »
Hello,

This file was rejected twice for technical problems.I tried my best, and re-edited the file from scratch.Today again it was declined for the technical problems.I just can't figure it out what is it about this image that the inspectors are not liking. It is already online on the other 2 of the big 4.IS and DT.It got through at the 1st go at both the sites.Fotolia is not allowing to make it 3 of the big 4!

Can you exactly tell me what is technically wrong in this image?I know thumbnails are difficult and that is why I am putting up a link to the full-sized jpeg so that you can view at 100% and tell me.I would really like to get it online.Maybe I am missing something which more experienced contributors can tell me about. If you can tell me how to fix it, even more helpful it would be.The focus point was dot on its eyes.If it was the cutting of its chin, then it would have been an aesthetic problem rejection.I considered it as a problem, but rejection thrice as a technical problem does say that there is an issue with this image.

Settings were:
Manual mode
SS - 1/500
Aperture - 5.6
ISO - 400
Clicked in RAW

Thank you so much for your time. :)

I suppose it's the content or the quality of your images is what doesn't suit Zoonar.

My acceptance rate remains above 99%
I do occasionally upload there as the process is extremely simple and not taking my time; and occasionally there are some sales, and the number of partners is gradually growing...

I don't think so sir.Because my images don't have any technical flaws.I post process them to correct the flaws and they are approved by the big 3 at very 1st go.Not even any resubmission. So if my images can resist their scrutiny and get online, I bet my images are technically correct. And my content is objects, people, animals and etc..Something that sells everywhere.Zoonar even has a partner who only wants animal images. So my images not meeting up their content requirements is totally out of question.

6
just started uploading a few days and got one or two rejections from 250 uploads perhaps

Best of luck to you.I am happy without them.By the way where are you from? :)

7
Cultural bias...It is very shameful. They should get a life. They could clearly mention with dignity that they are currently not accepting any submissions from the foreign contributors or so.Something like that.Rejecting this way isr ridiculous.

@csproductions:

I have joined your club sir.Not going to upload any more.Low on priority list?Forget it.It doesn't deserve to be even at the lower level.

8
Precisely.Better to invest time where it is worth it.I am not uploading any more from now on.As it is they reject anything and everything.Good bye zoonar.

9
Yes now after reading another thread with comments about rejections same as mine, I think Zoonar is a total waste of time.Forget sales. They reject everything.May be as the last poster on the other thread said, cultural bias.Well, could be, especially when they are rejecting images which have resisted the scrutiny of the large sites.

Find the thread here:

http://www.microstockgroup.com/new-sites-general/zoonar-!-anybody/

Will not be uploading more. Will let my accepted images be online for a while and see if I get any sales.Or else, request for deletion.

10
They are just rejecting anything and everything.Even my images that have resisted the inspection scrutiny of istock, dreamstime, FT, PM, etc..

Anyone else having the same problem?Ofcourse my images are technically correct if they are on the big 3.I don't find their rejection relevant/valid.
As I can see to my right, Zoonar is way below the other sites, but I am sticking to them just because they have agefotostock as their partner.Even alamy but I am already selling there directly.Should I bother uploading again or other pics?Anyone else contributing to them?Should I stick to them or forget about them?

Thank you.

Okay. There wasn't enough space for tripod as there were alot of devotees. Was scared to bump up the iso as that may have increased noise.Anyways, what about the other 2?

Soft and lacking definition. There are many reasons they reject for.

Photo Critique / Photo critique for Alamy QC please?
« on: October 11, 2011, 10:42 »
I am planning to get on alamy and I failed QC at the 1st try as 2 of my 4 images failed. Now I have 3 images ready to be submitted to QC but am perplexed about the 4th one.Could you help me figure out which 1 of these should I go ahead with, if any?Alamy don't look for subject matter but that the images should be technically sound.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/1.jpg

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/2.jpg

Both are clicked with aperture f/10, iso 100.Ofcourse I would be correcting the exposure in photoshop, but I would like you to tell me if any of the 2 or both are fine and technically sound.

Then I have these 2:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/3.jpg

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42878955/4.jpg

They were clicked at a memorial. Both are clicked with aperture f/8, iso 200.I know there are exposure problems with all, but I will be correcting them in Photoshop. The thing I need to know is which image is technically sound and safe to be uploaded for the QC, as I don't want to take any risk.Thank you.

Hey thank you for your answer.

I was just approved by istock 3-4 days back as a contributor. But I just wanted to confirm if they auto-forwarded your images to partners or was there any criteria.I hadn't discovered the pertners link under the my uploads section, but now I did.Thank you. :)

17
Okay so do you have to be exclusive to istock in order to have them distribute your images to thinkstock or thinkstock hand-picks them from istock?

18
How can I become contributor to these agencies?I can't find become a contributor or any similar option.

Thank you.

19
I had read about focus stacking previously, but I must say 1 thing and that is focus stacking means alot of intelligent masking in photoshop if I am not wrong.

By the way guys thanks to you all for saving me.I uploaded another image and was approved yesterday. My 1st image is under inspection currently.Thank you!

20
For something this large I often take several pics with different focus points and combine the images in photoshop. Lots of work but sometimes worth the effort. I used to shoot lots of product photos and the buyers always wanted everything in focus, even when items were grouped. It was easier to take several shots with the camera locked on a boom and combine the shots. An outside shot would require a sturdy tripod.

Okay thank you everyone! That was really a cool website. But cuppacofee, do you mean focus stacking?
And how about f/8?One guy on alamy recommended me f/8 for another picture that had similar problems.

21
Haha, okay I am not submitting this.I have other pics but just was considering this one.
It is better to get a 'no' from people who help here than from istock. :)

Okay, regarding focus, I would like to ask something as I am new to photography.
When I choose f/22 or f/32 to get everything in focus, there are still some soft areas as in this image. So I decided to catch this image with auto-settings so that I could get more focus points.

But how do you get everything in sharp focus in a shot like this? With aperture priority f/22?If yes, where would you set that focus point in an image like this ?How to get everything in sharp focus? Many said it was out of focus so what could I do next time in the camera when I want to keep everything in sharp focus?

22
No chance even if I fix CA?
2 of my other pics are already approved.I only need to upload 1.

23
Hello,

2 of my images are approved by Istock but my 3rd image has failed twice.I was asked to wait a week and tomorrow would be uploading 3rd sample.

Could you tell me please if this pic is appropriate and would pass or not?I don't want to take any risk with them this time...

Thank you.. :)

Ok, thank you.But I had some questions which I wanted answers to.They are partially legal questions you can say.

1) It is awesome to see the number of distributors offered. One of them is alamy. My question is that if I am selling the same image on both alamy and zoonar and if it overlaps on alamy if I choose alamy as 1 of the distributors, then what? Will I face some problems or that image will be simply rejected?

2) Alamy also offers distributors. So should I opt in for distributors on only 1 site like alamy or on each and every site like zoonar that offers that facility?'Coz there are major chances of overlapping.

3) Lastly, I read the terms and condition of mauritius images and agefotostock on the partners page -
"The photos must not be online at mauritius images already"
"Photos must not have already been uploaded at age fotostock or THP directly or via another picture agency"

Now the thing is that mauritius images is partner of both alamy and zoonar. So if I opt in for distributors on both the sites, images are bound to overlap on mauritius images. What then? Will it reject one of the agency offering that image or will just reject it from both the agencies?Or is it like whichever agency submits 1st....?

Please answer them..Thank you.

Okay, I got my 1st two pictures approved and I want to share them with my accepted partners.

So should I just tick the agencies I want to share the images with and auto-assign OR edit each image and go to partner settings in edit option and request approval? What is the difference between requesting approval and auto assigning? When I tried to auto assign, the agency icons didn't show besides the images like they do when approval is requested through marking them in edit option.

If I don't change change the partner settings i.e. not ask for any approval but just tick the images and agencies in the advanced partner management and click save settings, will it do?
