General Stock Discussion / Re: So How was your May?
« on: June 03, 2018, 12:40 »
Overall, May was just dreadful.  My worst month since Dec '12

Down 56% from April '18
Down 52% from May '17

Shutterstock continues it's slide, Getty iStock (April) was the worst month since the 2016.
Dreamstime, 123RF & Fotolia all had weak months, and Alamy was nonexistent.

General Stock Discussion / Re: JULY SALES
« on: August 02, 2017, 10:51 »
Worst month since July 2012, when my ports were about half the size they are now.  Down 40% from June, 2017.  Down 10% from July 2017
Shutterstock continues a very poor 2017, but July was bad in 2016, too.  -70% from June, down 7% from a poor July 2016.
Getty/Istock (June) - another decent month, but down slightly from other months in 2017.  Still, it was double June 2016.
Fotolia - OK, only down 18% from June, down 15% from July 2016.
Dreamstime - down 40% from June, down 1/3rd from July 2016
123RF - BAD.  down 85% from a record June. down 80% from July 2016
Alamy - Zip, zero, nada.  hard to compare months since sales are so all over the place.
I do have two Alamy sales in August already, so that's looking up.

« on: May 08, 2017, 11:28 »
Well, the problem is, over the last two months, even the old stuff had stopped selling.  April was my worth month since 2012, and May is even worse - on course to be less than $50 per month, when my typical month in 2014-2016 was $200-$300.

sigh

Second really bad month of the year.
Down 48% compared to April 2016
Down 42% compared to March 2017
Shutterstock was worst month since Dec of 2012, and first month since then below $100.  SAD.
YTD down 20%compared to 2016.
Not seeing a Trump bump in sales in 2017, that is for sure.

Haven't seen the Getty/iStock numbers yet, of course, but so far that is the only bright spot.
123RF, Dreamstime are holding steady
Alamy is down
fotolia up slightly compared to beginning of 2016, but down from end of 2016.

Shutterstock is dreadful and getting worse.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock February 2017 statement
« on: March 27, 2017, 11:42 »
Good News, Bad News.

The bad news is I just took a look at the detailed sales figures for Jan & Feb.  For the most part sale prices are WAY down, with a couple of $0.16 sales which nets $0.02 for me at 15% (non-exclusive), and I have no idea what their pricing structure actually is.

The good news is that overall sales are pretty decent for those two months, up 84% and 95% compared to Jan & Feb last year.  Feb was my highest month at Getty/iStock since March '16.  February actually beat Shutterstock for the first month that has happened since 2012 (mostly because SS has sucked this year so far, but still).

So, I will stick it out for awhile longer.  I hate ESP and the changeover was simply awful.  As usual, us non-exclusives are the last ones to hear anything or get responded to.  Making them 10's of thousands over the years means nothing, apparently.

Portfolio +13%
Downloads -15%
Earnings -3.3%

So at least my earnings per download were up.

Alamy.com / Alamy not paying for sales
« on: November 09, 2016, 23:10 »
I still have not been paid for sales made in MAY and JULY.   It''s great that you seem to be racking up sales from my images, but I haven't had one payout since Sept 1, and am now owed more than $600 for 12 unpaid sales.

« on: November 01, 2016, 11:53 »
3rd best month of 2016, 4th best month overall, thanks to another good month at Alamy, which has retaken 2nd place from iS for the year.

+59% over Oct '15
+13% over Sept '16

In ordrer for October:
SS - solid month - #2 BMY, #5 BME
Alamy - a couple of big sales
iS - typical '16 month, down 25% from '15
   2nd tier
123rf - continues to grow steadily
Fotolia - slow month for '16
Dreamstime - continues to slide
Pond5 - another zero.

After about 2 years on Alamy, my sales are really perking up.  March was my best month yet, and April was even better still, with good sales for May so far.  YTD for me Alamy is #2 behind Shutterstock, having passed iStock at #3, which continues to decline.

General Stock Discussion / Re: March 2015 earnings
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:07 »
Overall - BME by a big margin, more than double Feb '15, and up 75% from Mar '14

SS - BME, by like 40%, and double Jan & Feb '15.
iS - best month since Oct 2013, mainly due to partner sales & subs
Alamy - 2 juicy sales
others - about average

More of this, please!

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy - is it worth the time and trouble?
« on: February 24, 2015, 13:33 »
My travel & landscapes sell well on Alamy.  Not consistent, but the royalties are unmatched anywhere else, and it was my #2 in the first year of uploading there.

I would say absolutely.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Strange surge in $2.00 royalty subscriptions
« on: February 23, 2015, 13:12 »
17 $2 sales in the past 3 days, and many are shots that are not typicalk bestsellers, which more than doubles my sales for February.  Thank you, Dreamstime and Google, presumably!

Dreamstime.com / $2 sales mystery solved
« on: February 22, 2015, 13:23 »
So that solves that mystery.  I had 15 $2 sales in the past 3 days.  Considering that doubled my sales for February, and all at higher than my average royalty price lately, I wasn't complaining, but I was wondering what was going on.  This will be my best month at Dreamstime in quite awhile, methinks.

Well done, Dreamstime!

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy sales
« on: June 16, 2014, 10:44 »
I've had 8 sales in the first 6 months on a portfolio of about 500 images, but since the average download has been worth just under $50, it's become my #3 site fairly quickly (behind SS & iS, and ahead  DT, 123RF and Pond 5).  All of the images I have sold have been travel/landscapes.

General Stock Discussion / Re: May 2014 earning results
« on: June 16, 2014, 10:04 »
BME overall.  Up about 9% over April '14, up 43% over May '13, up 99% over May '12

SS - BMY (3rd best ever) - up 31% from April and 32% from May '13 - 53% of total
Alamy - this continues to be a pleasant surprise since I started in December.  2nd BME - 20% of total
iS - fairly steady since last June when they screwed things up for non-exclusives, down significantly from May '13
DT - steady, nothing exciting
123RF - even less exciting
Pond5 - zero - continues to disappoint.  I may play with my pricing to see if I can sell something

Yet another fantastic decision by the geniuses at Getty.  Ugh.

General Stock Discussion / Re: March '14 results
« on: April 09, 2014, 00:03 »
Decent month.  Up 11% from March 2013, up 23% from Feb 2014, but significantly below the peak in Sept-Jan.

Shutterstock back to its late 2013 glory, but iStock was the worst month since July 2011 (when my port was half as large).

Nothing from Alamy, almost nothing from 123RF.

Pond5 slowly improving (3rd month, still a smallish port).

General Stock Discussion / Re: December 2013 earnings
« on: January 06, 2014, 17:56 »
Significantly down from my BME in November (which was the 3rd BME in a row!), but December 2013 ended up just below average for 2013, and was up 68% from Dec 2012, which was itself the 2nd lowest month of 2012.

Bright spot - BME for Dreamstime, which passed iStock main for the first time.

Bad and getting worse - Istock, including November PP (I calculate based on reporting, not sales), was the worst month since late 2011.

Very slow start for January - let's hope we get back to that Sept-Nov pace soon!

General Stock Discussion / Re: 2013 Year Overview
« on: January 06, 2014, 17:14 »
A great year for shutterstock, a lousy year for iStock, and Dreamstime is finally starting to earn something (December was BME for DT).  I just hit $10,000 all time!  With $4600 total in 2013 (vs. $3200 last year)

Change from 2012:
iStock -12.5%
     iStock Main - 30.5%
     iStock PP +32%
Shutterstock +128%
Dreamstime +24.5%
others -13% (deleted fotolia port added 123RF)

Overall: +43.2% from 2012 on a portfolio of just under 1000 images (don;t have number for end of 2012, but it was prob in 650 range)

% of earnings:
Shutterstock 59.9%
iStock 30.4%
Dreamstime 6.4%
Others 3.2%
Alamy - 0 so far (started uploading Nov 2013)

Goals for 2014:

40% more income on 30% more images in portfolio, plus additions of Alamy & Pond5.

20
Overall - BME by a big margin (38%).  up 120% from Nov '12
SS - BME by a big margin - quadrupled Nov '12, and up 60% from Oct '13
iS - BMY - best month since Oct '12.  Main iS sales still low, but partner sales BME (I count partner sales from Oct in Nov, since that's when they are reported)  partner sales more than tripled main sales.
DT - steadily unexciting
123RF - unsteadily unexciting
Alamy - nothing yet (1 1/2 months in)

General Stock Discussion / Re: August Sales
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:31 »
Aug was mixed.  down 15% from Aug '12, which at the time was my BME.

iS was down a bit from July, but down 65% from Aug '12.  The new policies at iS have really screwed me, although partner sales are steady.

SS up more than 20% from July, and double Aug '12.  SS was 55% of sales for August, and has been over 50% since Feb '13

General Stock Discussion / Re: Winter of our discontent
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:21 »
Visit the tropics!  I get steady sales from my Puerto Rico and Costa Rica images all year long, but especially heading into winter.  I have another spot that sells well as the weather gets colder, but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag on that one just yet!

General Stock Discussion / Re: September Sale looking very low
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:19 »
Slow so far in Sept for DT & 123RF, continuing decline for iS since they rejiggered things in June, but headed for a BME for SS, thanks to on demand and single & other sales (including a nice $78 single and other).

General Stock Discussion / Re: April Sales
« on: May 06, 2013, 09:17 »
Overall BME.
Shutterstock - BME
iStock - best month since Oct
DT - stable, decent month
123rf - still relatively new, nothing worth talking about

Shutterstock is really taking off, with my 4th BME in a row, and now about 30-50% more than iS, and since I just hit the $3000 mark I should get a bump this month for the higher percentage rate.

3 of my best 4 months overall were this year.  Trends are looking up!

25
Close to BME.  Trendlines for SS just crossed iS for first time.

SS - BME up 157% over Feb 2012 +38% over Jan 2013
iS - up 12% over Feb 2012 (saved by one EL from being worst month since 2011) - making almost as much from partner sites as iS now
DT - even with Feb 2012, down 33% from Jan 2013 (BME)
123rf - poor month, down 75% from Jan 2013 (BME)

I've given up on Fotolia.  Anyone have a suggestion for a 5th site to add?  My port is mostly landscapes & nature
