I guess he mean you take your old photos, literally add some "cool/smart" words on them and re-upload them as new images/compositions.
You do the designers work in advance.

Maybe the editorial is on the way?

I'm still waiting for the BIG announcement later this year.

BIG announcement from who?

An Istock admin has said in their forums that BIG things are coming for video later this year, but they gave no specifics. So probably nothing to get excited about.

I am as 20% as well of what I used to be in 2008-2010. Steady decline since then and I am still uploading every f-day.

I remember good old days for video from 2008-2009 with 150 dl/ month. Now days I get only 4-5 dl /month.

An intresting special deal with Getty you can see sorting the latest on Vetta images and check those from http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=10400019

Intresting to see, reading the forums, that a lot of people are happy with the Getty sales and they are pushing more and more images to E+. Yes, the Getty sales will increase, but what is going to happen to the iStock sales? I bet they will go down more and more. At the end, iStock will be just another Getty collection.

Well it seems his port is no longer on IS. Good luck Sean

Yep, bit by bit, they disabled everything this morning.  I no longer have a stats page, which will make it difficult to check when the Getty sales from last month come in.

Good luck to you Sean. Don't be too honest in the future ;). I am not saying that it is not true on what you did/say about iStock and Getty, but I understand their reason for letting you go.

Agree with MichaelJay, quitting completely is bad business for yourself.

I am not supporting the Getty deal but let face it: today a "thief" can find almost any best seller with the google image search function at a reasonable size.
Getty has a huge number of files, so deleting/deactivating a few files is not more than a drop in the ocean.
After seeing what Craig Peters told people at Luminance 2012 I understand that today we are facing some changes.
I believe that by deactivating my own files I will only harm my personal economy and no one others.

Funny that iStock allows Yuri post the Windows keyboard logo on a file sold more than 11000 times

14
He won't have to worry about overheads such as paying highly qualified reviewers...... he already has staff so he can redirect a few of them into marketing and site maintenance. The bigger question is: will he undercut the others to gain new business?  Will that drive prices down?

have you seen his website? his pricing is 2x the regular exclusive file or a photo+ at iStock

Yuri sells XS with 1 credit, on iStock XS is 1 credit.

BTW is Sjlocke already at SS?

He is one of the last who will leave IS. Most probably, it will never happen.
Even if he is angry on a lot of thinks about the development of IS he is still devoted to it.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Switching to Video
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:04 »
why is there not a mass exodus of contributors from stills to video?

Because: a.  video is overrated and 2: you aren't as good at video as you think you are...

lol Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed Sean?

17

So a higher payout makes no sense?

Yes, if you are selling once at a high price instead of selling it 5 times at lower prices.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How do you feel about IStock?
« on: December 08, 2011, 07:02 »
I left photo exclusive in the fall of 2010. Now I have decided to leave video exclusive. That is how I feel. iStock has to do what it has to do, so do I.

more info here: http://www.eyeidea.com/2011/12/06/expanding-stock-video-distribution/

Thanks for the link to your blog. Although I know a fair bit about iStock for photo and illustrations, I know nothing about video or audio. I did read your post in the video forum but wondered if you'd care to elaborate on what changed with video exclusivity that you found the business case no longer compelling. If it was related to the RC system for earning a royalty percentage - and that yours dropped, that certainly would make sense, but I wondered if there were other video factors in play?

Good luck with the transition

The long queue for getting online the footage plays a big role as well. Having to wait 2-3 months to get the movie online when competitors can get your movie in about 1-2 days is not so great.
Eyeidea has a strong portfolio and he will succeed quite from beginning(I just imagine how much simonkr could earn by going nonexclusive).

Every time I try to make a paypal request I get back a page where says: "Money isn't all that matters" ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Moving on from IS exclusive
« on: November 30, 2011, 06:33 »
I would suggest to remain exclusive if you are not able to submit more often than today.
Did you have any good reason to not upload anything for 13 months? This is bad for any site, is not only with IS.
If you stop uploading, then the business is going down, no matter what site.

But if you want to leave the exclusivity on IS because they suck in the treatment with it's contributors, then I understand.

Im sitting here in my 2009 Range-Rover and I expected IS, to pay for the fuel or at least the freaking oil but no sir, no a pot to piss in. Its all piss poor performance.
Maybe we should join up with TS ?  heard they pay for travels, etc.

Maybe they want us to start using the bicycle instead.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istockphoto Down For Maintenance or Hacked?
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:51 »
I have been on the verge of dropping my exclusivity many times. I just can't afford the risk at this point in time.

Did you notice Tom's message about SS video?
What is not to afford? Those extra percent you get as exclusive you will earn on pond5 and SS in no time.

Hi...if you are a videographer and are looking to increase your sales, please let me introduce myself.  My name is Tom Spota and I am the Director of Video Acquisition at Shutterstock Footage (http://footage.shutterstock.com/).  If you are an existing videographer with a large collection of clips that youre ready to upload for review, we want to simplify that process for you. If you plan to upload 500 or more clips, email us at [email protected] and let us know how many clips you have and what type of content it is (business, lifestyle, animation, etc.). If you have a link to your work online, please provide it.  Based on the nature of your request, we may be able to provide some submission assistance.

We would love to help you increase your sales!   ;)

Hi Tom!

Nice timing :).

« on: November 28, 2011, 00:58 »
There SHOULD NOT!  be any room for diletants in todays stock-files. This is not a charity organization where some poor young photographer should be given chances, etc, this is a cut-throat business and all of us here in this forum are in serious competition with each other, no matter how friendly we, here, in postings, etc.

Stock photography is the same as anything else. You have to EARN your place, earn your position and rights,  end of story. Thats what IS, forget all the time and right now you have rookie-files way up front in everyone of their searches.

Just because you are an old schooled photographer doesn't mean that a young photographer can't do better than you. Everybody should have the chance. Old back days are over.
